Nahyan bin Mubarak launches 6th Ataya Exhibition 2017

ABU DHABI, — Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, today launched the 6th Ataya Exhibition 2017 at the IPIC Arena in Abu Dhabi, under the patronage of the wife of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, H.H. Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Assistant of H.H. the ERC Chairman for Women’s Affairs and Head of the Higher Committee of the Ataya Initiative.

Ataya (means ‘giving’ in Arabic), a charity exhibition organised by ERC, has quickly become a landmark in Abu Dhabi’s cultural calendar, where a wide range of fresh and distinct fashion wear, jewellery, home accessories and furniture is exhibited and sold.

The event will dedicate its proceeds to support kidney failure patients by strengthening the capabilities of medical centres that specialise in dialysis, both inside and outside the country.

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak, accompanied by Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Board of the ERC, several ERC officials and other attendees, toured the pavilions of the exhibition and viewed products manufactured by its participants.

He praised the participants’ role in strengthening the higher goals of the Ataya Initiative through their effective participation in the event, which aims to achieve the dream of many kidney failure patients of receiving the health services and medical care they need.

He added that these qualitative initiatives strengthen the country’s humanitarian role and represent its striving and desire to ease humanitarian suffering and protect human dignity, while standing alongside the victims of crises and disasters during difficult times.

He valued the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan of the Ataya Initiative, stressing that Her Highness’s patronage gives the initiative a regional and international aspect.

H.H. Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan stressed that the Ataya Exhibition, whose current cycle coincides with the Year of Giving, is in harmony with and strengthens the UAE’s international humanitarian message, under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the support of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and the monitoring of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, as the UAE becomes one of the most important countries to provide humanitarian and development assistance, and an important player in launching innovative initiatives and finding solutions for humanitarian issues that many communities suffer from.

Millions of people worldwide particularly in the developing countries suffer from renal failure. This is primarily because the required medical treatment is absent. The situation becomes worse when a kidney related disease breaks out and the number of patients requiring treatment increases rapidly. Further, there is the problem of high medical cost and a shortage in both health services and medical equipment needed at the health centers specialising in the treatment of renal failure,” she said.

”The result is predictable : many patients in these developing countries can be found waiting in long queues to undergo dialysis the treatment most frequently used to reduce the chronic pain and give them hope for a better life. This year’s Ataya initiative takes into account the painful reality of renal failure. Accordingly, the proceeds of the 6th charity exhibition will be allocated for this cause. This decision also coincides with the Year of Giving and will help reduce the pain and suffering of renal patients worldwide.” Ataya aims to support charitable establishments with funds raised from the exhibition, focus on building awareness of community service among Emiratis, particularly the younger generation, raise awareness – and importance – of the need to help less fortunate people in society and to help instill the value of charity in the community.

Proceeds of last year exhibition were used to construct six schools in Afghanistan, Egypt, Yemen, India, Mauritania and Philippines, respectively.
