UEFA EURO 2020 Sponsor Hisense Showcases Hisense U7 TV at the Tournament

QINGDAO, China, June 14, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — After a year’s delay, UEFA EURO 2020 officially kicked off in Rome, Italy, in the early hours of June 12, Beijing time. The presence of a large number of Chinese elements on the many digital screens overlooking the stadium aroused widespread discussion among audiences throughout China. In 2016, Hisense, as the first Chinese firm to become a sponsor of UEFA EURO, ran an advertisement with the tagline “Buy TV, Choose U7”, that was seen by millions of football fans worldwide. Hisense’s sponsorship 5 years ago inspired many more Chinese companies to follow their lead by becoming UEFA EURO sponsors. As a result, advertisements from Chinese firms have become a common sight at all of Europe’s major tournaments.

It is the first time in the history of UEFA EURO that the interval between tournaments was extended to five years rather than the usual four. This year also marks the 60th anniversary of the quadrennial event. This year’s tournament was especially anticipated by spectators and football fans around the world, as it is the first world-class sporting event following the ending of lockdown measures in most countries since the outbreak of the pandemic, as well as the first to allow a certain number of spectators to watch the game on site. There was a huge turnout online in Europe for this first game of the tournament, while Chinese fans, due to the time difference, stayed up late to watch the game. The first three days of UEFA EURO 2020 happen to coincide with the Dragon Boat Festival holiday in China, when star teams from Belgium, England and the Netherlands had their first matches. The popularity of these three teams in China is expected to send ratings soaring among that audience.

Five years ago, in 2016, Hisense, the first Chinese sponsor of UEFA Euro in the 56-year history of the tournament, left a lasting impression on the audience with the tagline “Hisense TV China’s No. 1”. During the opening match this year, however, Hisense chose to remain low-profile, by returning to the earlier tagline “Buy TV, Choose U7”. The U7 is a customized TV set series officially created for UEFA Euro 2020, and is proving to be an item in the Hisense TV portfolio that is turning a lot of heads. Just as most soccer teams have their own legendary “No. 7 player”, Hisense’s executives, as they have become of aware of the series’ popularity, have started referring to it in company meetings as “Hisense’s No. 7 Player”.

Publicly available data from All View Cloud show that for two consecutive months, three models in the Hisense U7 series have been among the top 10 best-selling new TVs in China. Hisense U7G-Pro, the world’s first ULED XDR TV, boasts a peak picture brightness of 1600nit, more than 5 times that of ordinary LCD TVs, vastly boosting the clarity of the image and the level of detail. The ultra-high 144HZ refresh rate eliminates the streaking effect that mars the viewing experience when players run or pass the ball. Hisense has also developed a “Super Fan” viewing mode tailored for this year’s UEFA Euro, which includes features such as AI Green Field (a smart feature that optimizes the viewing effect when panning over a field green grass, rendering the image substantially clearer), AI Watching and Multi-Perspective Watching. The lineup of these special features with the football fan in mind makes U7G-Pro a particular good choice for watching UEFA EURO 2020 games.

UAE cruise to final round of Asian Qualifiers for World Cup-2022 after dethroning Vietnam

DUBAI, The United Arab Emirates secured a hard-fought 3-2 win over former Group leaders Vietnam in the final round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 at Zabeel Stadium on Tuesday.

Tonight’s win saw UAE dethroned Vietnam from the top spot of Group G to reach the final round of the Asian Qualifiers for the second time running, while Vietnam, despite the defeat, advanced for the first time in their history.

The group hosts’ Abdullah Ramadan sent a diagonal overhead pass for the onrushing central midfielder Ali Salmeen who controlled and rifled home the opener two minutes after the half-hour mark.

Just six minutes later, the Whites’ Khalil Ibrahim rounded goalkeeper Bui Tan Truong, leaving him with no choice but to bring him down inside the box.

Striker Ali Mabkhout confidently slotted home his 76th international goal. Mahmoud Khamis added the UAE’s third five minutes into the second half.

Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Linh latched onto a through pass from substitute Tran Minh Vuong and slipped the ball past goalkeeper Ali Khaseif with just five minutes to go.

In the final minute of added time, Vuong stole the ball deep inside the UAE’s half, exchanging passes and converting home a second Vietnam goal.

EGA begins planting 10,000 mangroves in Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary

ABU DHABI, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) today began planting 10,000 mangroves in Jebel Ali Wildlife Sanctuary in partnership with the “One Billion Tree-Planting Initiative”.

Mangroves, which grow in tidal areas of the coast, are an important native tree species in the UAE.

Studies show that mangroves sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere up to four times as effective as a rainforest. The trees also protect coastal areas from erosion and contribute to the sustainability of coastal ecosystems.

EGA and the One Billion Tree-Planting Initiative have engaged experts from the Emirates Marine Environmental Group, Dubai’s oldest NGO, to plant the mangrove saplings to ensure the young trees will thrive.

The Initiative is a global campaign spearheaded by the UAE to plant one billion trees around the world by the end of 2025, improving lives and livelihoods whilst also helping tackle climate change.

One innovative feature of the campaign, delivered in partnership with EcoMatcher, a Hong Kong-based benefit or “B” corporation, is its use of blockchain technology to track tree planting accurately and transparently and to measure carbon sequestration achieved.

Abdulnasser bin Kalban, CEO of EGA, said, “Mangroves are a beautiful part of our natural environment in the UAE. They also have a potentially important role in capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. We are pleased to partner with the One Billion Tree-Planting Initiative to plant mangroves down the coast from our Jebel Ali plant in Dubai.

“Aluminium plays an important role in the development of a more sustainable society, but it also matters how sustainably it is made. At EGA we are committed to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions from our industrial activities and we have already made considerable progress. Offsetting emissions we cannot eliminate from human activity will be an important part of the global solution to climate change over the decades ahead.”

The One Billion Tree-Planting Initiative aims to reach 21 countries by the end of this year and individuals can play a part alongside companies and other organisations.

Smart Dubai joins C40 remote global roundtable to discuss use of data and technology to manage future waves

DUBAI, Smart Dubai took part in a remote roundtable on the ‘Use of Data and Technology to Manage Future Waves’, organised by C40 – a network of 40 major megacities around the world committed to addressing climate change.

The session explored how advanced technology and data science was used to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in Dubai and how it can help cities better manage any potential future challenges.

During the session, Younus Al Nasser, Assistant Director-General of Smart Dubai, CEO of the Dubai Data Establishment, showcased the city’s success story in leveraging the power of data to build and govern a holistic and people-centric smart city in Dubai, allowing government entities and businesses to develop products and services powered by emerging technologies.

“Data science and technology have revolutionised virtually every sector in the economy and drastically transformed every aspect of our lives. It is a powerful tool with the potential to achieve great results, so it is only natural that we use it to address one of the most pressing challenges our world is facing – and indeed, has ever faced. Climate change threatens to upend existing systems, but with accurate and reliable data, authorities can make the right decisions to alleviate its dangers and ensure a better future for our world,” Al Nasser said.

Smart Dubai introduced attendees to its vision of what defines a holistic data ecosystem, citing the four pillars – Value Creation, where the COVID-19 Dashboard and the Food Security Dashboard were given as examples; Ecosystem Engagement with the Dubai Data Champions; Data Infrastructure where Smart Dubai launched Dubai Pulse; and Data Governance, which Dubai ensures by implementing the Dubai Data Law.

Smart Dubai also presented their COVID-19 Dashboard and the Food Security Dashboard as prominent use cases. The former was built in partnership with Dubai’s COVID-19 Command and Control Centre and serves to monitor and predict the spread of COVID-19, enabling authorities to make informed decisions. The project relies on accurate and reliable data on various metrics, such as the total number of infections by type, cumulative numbers of infections, recoveries, and critical cases across Dubai, as well as logistical information like the number of facilities and medical supplies available at each.

The Dubai Food Security Dashboard is an AI and data science powered platform that provides live updates on five important indicators for food security: the supply index, stock availability, domestic production, consumption and the price index for all vital F&B commodities in Dubai.

Dubai joined C40 in 2015, before being elected two years later in 2017 to the C40 Steering Committee, where it is represented by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council.

Since joining the Network, the emirate has participated in various workshops, conferences and global forums, sharing its experience and success in the field of sustainable infrastructure, combatting climate change, waste reduction and curbing greenhouse gas emissions.
