Om Birla along with various other stakeholders, NEET exam will be conducted in Kuwait and Dubai from this year.

Dubai Customs launches Trader Export Report service to enhance compliance, abidance and revenues

DUBAI, Within their continuous efforts to support trade activity in Dubai to help businesses overcome the challenges and boost their revenues, Dubai Customs, in cooperation with the Federal Tax Authority (FTA), launched the Trader Export Report service. The new service will help clearance and shipping agents achieve Zero Rating of supply of goods exported within 90 days of exportation date, regardless of the Importation date.

The service was launched virtually in the presence of Ahmed Mahboob Muabih, Director General of Dubai Customs, and Khalid Ali Al Bustani, Director General, FTA, along with Dubai Customs’ executive directors and heads of customs departments and centers.

Traders have to meet all the Zero Rating requirements including having an exit certificate and commercial documents that prove exportation process, and exporting the shipment within the specified time frame. This service applies only to imported goods that will be exported later and not to goods possessed locally.

Ahmed Musabih expressed gratitude to the FTA for their dedication and outstanding efforts to help develop the trade sector and increase revenues. “The service is meant to provide best trade and customs facilities to traders and businesses to help them increase mutual trade between Dubai and the rest of the world. This will help in fulfilment of national plans and projects and support Dubai 5-year plan of increasing Dubai external trade to AED2 trillion. Dubai non-oil external trade grew 10 percent in Q1, 2021 to AED354.4b compared to AED323b in Q1, 2020. This includes AED150m for exports and re-exports.” “This service is one of many facilities that Dubai customs provide to help augment growth in external trade, attract more investments into the emirate, and consolidate Dubai’s global position as a preferred hub for business and tourism following the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.” “The launching of the new service has come in the right time with the emirate preparing to launch EXPO2020; the most important economic event in the world. It will not be only an opportunity to exchange creative ideas and projects, but a vital means to help with the global recovery from the repercussions of Covid-19. We served the grand event by launching a number of initiatives including a dedicated customs channel,” he added.

Commenting on the launch of the new service, Khalid Ali Al Bustani, FTA Director-General said: “The Trader Export Report service is very promising, and is a good example of fruitful cooperation between local departments and federal authorities to enhance economic development and trade facilitation following the leadership’s wise vision. The creative platform will help raise compliance and abidance. I heartily thank Dubai Customs’ team for their dedication and honest efforts in making this creative service a reality.”

Dubai to host Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship

DUBAI, The Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC), the Masters Tournament and The R&A, announced that the 12th Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship (AAC) is set to be held from November 3-6, 2021 at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club (Championship Course).

Created in 2009, the AAC was established to further develop amateur golf in the Asia-Pacific region. The champion receives an invitation to compete in the Masters Tournament and The Open, while the runner(s)-up gain a place in Final Qualifying for The Open.

The 2020 AAC was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2021 championship will mark the first edition held in the UAE, one of the APGC’s 42 member countries, and will join the numerous professional and amateur events Dubai hosts annually, including the European Tour’s Dubai Desert Classic and DP World Tour Championship.

“After being part of the AAC for many years as a member of the APGC, we are excited to welcome this prestigious championship to the UAE for the first time,” said Shaikh Fahim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Emirates Golf Federation.

“This opportunity means a great deal to the Asia-Pacific’s many talented amateurs. We are honoured to support the APGC, the Masters Tournament and The R&A in their efforts to conduct a safe event and advance our shared mission of spurring golf’s growth and development,” he added.

Taimur Hassan Amin, Chairman of the APGC, Fred Ridley, Chairman of the Masters Tournament, and Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A, said in a joint statement: “This year’s historic win at the Masters Tournament by Hideki Matsuyama, a two-time Asia-Pacific Amateur champion, underscored the importance of this event as a platform for the game’s development and rising talent in the region.

“We are grateful for the support of the Emirates Golf Federation and Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, and we are committed to working closely with all involved to stage this year’s championship with responsible protocols in place so we can provide this life-changing opportunity safely to these deserving players.

“Dubai Creek’s Championship Course will enhance the tradition of world-class venues that have hosted this championship, and we look forward to showcasing the Asia-Pacific’s top-ranked amateurs this fall.”

Opened in 1993, Dubai Creek’s Championship Course features an 18-hole, par-71 layout originally designed by Karl Litten before its redesign in 2004, led by Thomas Bjorn.

The course has previously hosted the 1999 and 2000 Dubai Desert Classic and the Mena Tour’s Dubai Creek Open, where 2018 AAC runner-up Rayhan Thomas shot a course-record 61 in 2017. Most recently, Dubai Creek hosted The Dubai Championship on the World Amateur Tour last December.

Christopher May, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Golf, said: “The AAC annually brings together the leading amateurs from across the region, and the world, and we are proud to be selected by the Founding Partners as the host of this year’s event.

“Our Championship Course will present both a challenging and inspiring test for the players, and we look forward to highlighting their talent and contributing to the AAC’s impact on the game.”

Over the AAC’s 12-year history, the championship has served as a springboard to some of the world’s top players today, including Matsuyama, a two-time AAC winner and 2021 Masters champion.

UAE among the world’s fastest countries in deploying 5G networks: Mohammed Al Zarooni

DUBAI, Mohammed Ibrahim Al Zarooni, Deputy Director of the Information and Digital Government Sector at the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), affirmed that the UAE is among the world’s fastest countries in deploying 5G networks, which facilitated the implementation of the latest projects across health, transport, education and logistics.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Al Zarooni said that the capabilities provided by 5G networks will accelerate the deployment of tech solutions that enable the establishment of smart cities, including smart transportation, self-driving vehicles and unmanned aircraft.

They are also paving the way for the utilisation of drones in cargo and mail shipment, and for remote surgery, which will help save lives, especially in emergencies, he added, noting that AI solutions will be used in analysing big data and developing smart services, which will boost happiness levels in the UAE community.

Al Zarooni explained that the TDRA is continuing to develop the infrastructure required to utilise the latest AI solutions, and highlighted the UAE government’s efforts towards developing the world’s best integrated and flexible government services ecosystem. In 2020, the UAE created the position of Chief of Government Services to oversee the development of the government services system through customer-centric programmes that help enhance the efficiency of services.

Furthermore, the UAE government launched the 2021-2025 UAE Government Services Strategy, setting policies that ensure the provision of world-class government services and drive the country’s digital transformation in the next two years.

On global drivers of future services, Al Zarooni said that there are projections of a coming important strategic shift that will tip the balance of power globally, as AI systems are expected to contribute US$16 trillion to the global GDP in 2030, and renewable energy expected to account for 50 percent of the world’s energy needs.

These and other major transformations need to be dealt with proactively and innovatively by utilising cutting-edge tech solutions to leverage and ensure optimal management of the opportunities they create, he continued.

Elaborating on the future of the UAE’s government services, Al Zarooni said that five main pillars were identified to shape the future of its services. These include building trust and partnerships between the government and society with all data to be made available to the private sector; providing seamless around-the-clock access to services from anywhere; developing services that enhance the quality of life; making government online services more proactive and personalised; and ensuring better governance of services by designing proactive policies and legislation, he explained.

He further noted that a study of the expected impact of the UAE’s new vision for government services showed that it will help increase the UAE’s GDP by 8 percent, a fruit of the partnership between the government and the private sectors, which will create more jobs and investment opportunities, in addition to boosting the efficiency of government services by 90 percent.

Speaking of the UAE’s success in containing the COVID-19 pandemic, Al Zarooni said that the UAE’s forward-looking digitisation plans enabled its smooth transition to remote work and distance learning, adding that the availability of over 6,000 digital government services and solid e-commerce infrastructure across all sectors played a huge role in maintaining the safety of members of UAE residents and citizens.
