Ministry of Health to mark World Patient Safety Day 2021

DUBAI, Under the theme “Safe maternal and newborn care”, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) is celebrating World Patient Safety Day, observed annually on 17th September.

On this occasion, the Dubai Frame will be lit up in orange colour at 18:00.

This year’s theme aims to promote global awareness on issues related to maternal and neonatal safety, especially during childbirth, it also aims to take sustainable measures to ensure safe and respectful childbirth, activate the safe use of medicines and medical devices during childbirth, and strengthen the capacity and support of health workers.

MoHAP’s multidisciplinary plans and initiatives pay special attention to enhance awareness about the safety of mothers and newborns during childbirth through the provision of distinguished and safe care and competent health professionals working in supportive environments, said Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector.

The ministry also works hand in hand with all partners to adopting comprehensive health and community programmes, in order to achieve the Ministry’s strategy aimed at providing comprehensive and innovative healthcare to prevent diseases and enhance healthcare, he added.

Esmat Al Qassem, Head of the Maternity and Childhood Department, said the ministry has established electronic clinics to develop health services for the Maternity and Childhood Department, in line with the precautionary measures taken to contain COVID-19.

There are also specific programmws for maternal healthcare before pregnancy and follow-up during the fourth month of pregnancy, during and after delivery, added Al Qassem, in addition to educational programmes for mothers related to public health, nutrition, healthcare for children, prevention of diseases and vaccinations.

She indicated that the specialised health services include remote visits to the mother and her infant in the first week, with the ability to attend the hospital or health centre according to the medical district if needed.

There are also vaccination visits for all ages, except for the age of two months and in case of new vaccinations, where the child’s condition is assessed through the electronic clinic, and the vaccination is provided on the second day through the drive-thru vaccination service.

Dubai’s weeklong real estate transactions reach AED 5.5 billion

DUBAI, Dubai has recorded 1,610 real estate and properties transactions, valued at AED 5.5 billion in total, during the week ending 16th September 2021, according to Dubai Land Department’s (DLD) weekly report.

A total of 119 plots were sold for AED 1.39 billion, while 1,081 apartments and villas were sold for AED 2.14 billion.

The top three transactions were a land in Palm Jumeirah sold for AED 508 million, followed by a land that was sold for AED 68.54 million in Saih Shuaib 2, and a land sold for AED 50 million in in Saih Shuaib 2 in third place.

Al Hebiah Third recorded the most transactions for this week by 20 sales transactions worth AED 62.34 million, followed by Al Yufrah 2 with 15 sales transactions worth AED 18.07 million, and Hadaeq Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid with 14 sales transactions worth AED 253 million in third place.

The sum of mortgaged properties for the week was 2 billion, with the highest being a land in Al Safouh Second, mortgaged for AED 320 million.

93 properties were granted between first-degree relatives worth AED 279 million.

Dubai set to boost trade cooperation with France

DUBAI, Trade and commercial cooperation between Dubai and France is set to further increase following discussions between the two sides to explore new mutually beneficial opportunities.

Dubai Customs today organised a virtual Ertibat meeting with a visiting French diplomatic and business delegation.

Speaking during the meeting Sultan bin Sulayem, DP World Group Chairman and CEO and Chairman of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), said the growth momentum of Dubai’s external trade is gathering pace, driven by a number of factors including the emirate’s outstanding capabilities, dynamism and agility in handling the pandemic.

“We can see tourism and exhibition activity going back to normal in the emirate, with Expo 2020 Dubai around the corner. Dubai has largely managed to mitigate the economic repercussions from the spread of the pandemic. DP World and its terminals around the world are performing very well,” he said.

The meeting between Dubai Customs and the French delegation discussed a number of topics including means to further boost cooperation and facilities offered to foreign businesses. Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Executive Chairman of PCFC, Director-General of Dubai Customs; and Xavier Chatel, France’s Ambassador to the UAE, attended the meeting along with a number of executive directors and heads of departments of Dubai Customs and representatives of French businesses.

“Meetings like these help us develop our economic relationships with friendly states. We are committed to facilitating French trade and investment activities in the best possible way in alignment with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to make Dubai the world’s leading global economic hub,” said Bin Sulayem.

Ahmed Mahboob Musabih welcomed the French delegation and reaffirmed Dubai Customs’ commitment to develop cooperation with French diplomatic missions and businesses in line with the coherent and fruitful partnership between the UAE and France.

Musabih said, “Our trade sector saw considerable growth in Q1 this year despite many challenges posed by the global pandemic. Dubai’s non-oil external trade grew 10 percent to AED354.4 billion from AED323 billion in Q1 2020. Customs transactions skyrocketed 53.4 percent to 11.2 million in the first half of this year from 7.3 million in the corresponding period in 2020.”

Dubai saw a total trade of AED14.9 billion with France in 2020. In H1 2021, trade between the two sides touched AED8.5 billion. Top commodities included jewellery, perfumes, medical products, textiles and leather.

The French Ambassador thanked Dubai Customs for organising this meeting, which comes when the world is awaiting the start of Expo 2020 Dubai. He invited the participants to visit the French pavilion at the exhibition.

“The UAE has demonstrated exceptional capabilities in managing the COVID-19 crisis, proving its competence in adapting to changes and overcoming challenges. The UAE is our preferred choice for investment and trade. This is the message that I always convey to French officials. Dubai is the perfect link between the west and the east thanks to its strategic location and advanced infrastructure,” said Chatel.

Eman Badr Al Suwaidi, Director of Customs Valuation Department, who is in charge of the implementation of the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) programme, said the AEO programme applies advanced procedures in compliance with the WTO requirements.

“The AEO programme will help member companies gain better access to world markets,” said Al Suwaidi. “Currently 85 companies have registered in the programme, and we have signed mutual recognition agreements with South Korea, China and Saudi Arabia so far.”

Dubai Customs delivered a presentation on its Cross Border e-Commerce platform during the meeting. The innovative platform, developed by Dubai Customs, utilises blockchain technology to integrate and automate operations between Customs, Free Zones, logistics, and courier companies. The first of its kind in the region, the initiative aims to help the emirate become a global hub for e-commerce, and encourage e-commerce companies set up their businesses in Dubai. Online trade in the UAE is estimated to reach US$27 billion in 2022, a growth of 23 percent.

Dubai Customs’ IPR Department also delivered a presentation on the Department’s role in raising awareness about the importance of intellectual property and how to protect it. The presentation outlined Dubai Customs’ efforts to resolve intellectual property disputes, registering trademarks and protecting the rights of global brands including famous French brands such as Lacoste, Louis Vuitton, and Cartier.

Another presentation highlighted Dubai Customs’ facilities and incentives for exhibitors and visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai including a dedicated customs channel, online registration and submission of customs declarations, and waiver of registration fees.

Emirates to recruit 3,000 cabin crew, 500 airport services employees

Emirates has gradually restored its network operations in line with the easing of travel restrictions around the world, and over the past months, it has been recalling pilots, cabin crew and other operational employees who were stood down when the pandemic forced a drastic reduction in flights last year, the company said on Thursday.

The airline currently flies to over 120 cities, representing 90% of its pre-pandemic network, and it plans to restore 70% of its capacity by the end of the year, including bringing back more of its iconic A380 aircraft into active service.

One of the most dynamic global cities, Dubai has also led the world in its response to the pandemic thanks to its strong leadership and public-private sector cooperation. The rapid vaccination roll-out in the United Arab Emirates, and clear pandemic protocols have enabled Dubai to quickly and safely re-open to international tourism and business activities since July 2020.

UAE leaders congratulate Mexican President on Independence Day

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a message of congratulations to Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador on the occasion of his country’s Independence Day, or ‘Grito de Dolores’, observed on 16th September.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, sent similar messages of congratulations to the Mexican President, on the occasion.

UAE Ambassador expects high number of Indian visitors to Expo 2020 Dubai

From Krishnan Nayar NEW DELHI, The UAE Ambassador to India, Dr. Ahmed Al Banna, today expressed confidence that “there will be a strong number of visitors from India to Expo 2020 Dubai.”

Speaking at a media briefing to launch a major public awareness campaign about the world exposition opening in Dubai in a fortnight, Dr. Al Banna said there has been a strong commitment from the leadership in India to the success of Expo 2020 Dubai.

He attributed this to the “geographical proximity between the UAE and India, their closeness and the special relationship” enjoyed by the two countries. EXPO 2020 Dubai has been one of the key points in recent conversations between Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar and other prominent Indians with leaders and officials in the UAE.

The Ambassador said visits from India to the six-month-long mega event are expected to be very high “especially now that we have eased the procedures for entering the UAE and there is a different protocol that we apply for COVID-19.”

Dr. Al Banna stressed the importance of collaboration between the UAE and India in emerging sectors such as information technology, education and healthcare in terms of shaping the future of the young generation in both countries. Such cooperation will be critical in creating the right workforce after the pandemic abates.
