Tawazun and UK’s Defence and Security Exports Department for International Trade sign MoU

ABU DHABI, Tawazun Economic Council (Tawazun) and the UK Defence and Security Exports Department for International Trade have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for defence industrial cooperation.

The signing, which took place virtually on the sidelines of the visit made by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to the UK.

The MoU was signed by Graham Stuart, British Minister of Exports and Tareq Abdulraheem Al Hosani, Chief Executive Officer of Tawazun.

Al Hosani said the MoU builds on the growing strategic ties between the two countries, under the vision and guidance of their leaderships.

He added that the MoU aims to establish a framework to strengthen ties in defence and security industry fields and to identify new opportunities for commercial cooperation.

UAE Ambassador, Argentina’s Foreign Affairs Minister discuss cooperation

BUENOS AIRES, Saeed Abdullah Saif Al Qamzi, UAE Ambassador to Argentina, has discussed with Felipe Solá, Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, a number of issues of common interest and ways of enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital, Buenos Aires, touched upon means to further develop cooperation between the two countries, especially in the economic and investment sectors.

During the meeting, Felipe Solá highlighted the role of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development in helping develop a number of infrastructure projects across various Argentinian provinces.

The two sides also discussed latest regional and international developments and exchanged views on topics of common interest. In this context, Ambassador Al Qamzi said that the UAE’s vision is based on cooperation, tolerance and prosperity.

The meeting also touched on Argentina’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai and the anticipated high-level visits by Argentinian top officials to the UAE, including a visit by President Alberto Fernández.

The two sides also discussed various ways of developing bilateral relations and enhancing the level of cooperation between the two countries.

ABU DHABI, “We reject the resolution adopted this week in the European Parliament concerning the United Arab Emirates.

We strongly reject the allegations made in the text, which have been previously addressed and dismissed as factually incorrect. Moreover, the resolution completely ignores all of the UAE’s significant achievements in the human rights field.

Every country has its own laws and legal institutions – the UAE Constitution and national legislation enshrines fundamental rights which provide for the fair treatment of all citizens and residents.”

UAE, UK launch new landmark partnership to counter illicit financial flows

ABU DHABI, The UK and UAE will ramp up the targeting of those financing terrorism and serious and organised crime gangs as part of a landmark new partnership. The new agreement was signed by UK Home Secretary Priti Patel and UAE Minister of State Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh on Friday.

The agreement of the UAE-UK Partnership to Tackle Illicit Financial Flows is part of the new, ambitious Partnership for the Future between the UK and the UAE as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and the UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

This aims to ensure that the UAE and UK are able to work closely together to tackle the shared global challenges that we face, promote prosperity and security for our citizens.

The partnership is a concrete articulation of the UK and UAE’s shared ambition to increase co-operation on illicit financial flows. It offers a robust platform to build a stronger and more enduring strategic partnership, advancing the priorities laid out in the UK’s Integrated Review and the UAE’s National Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing Strategy.

The launch of the Partnership To Tackle Illicit Financial Flows will be held in London on Friday, 17th September 2021. The co-chairs will discuss the aims of the partnership, and the development of a joint action plan to mitigate and address shared illicit finance risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, aiming to: Bolster law enforcement’s ability to identify and stop dirty money Target the flows of terror financing internationally Home Secretary Priti Patel said: “I will always take the strongest possible action to the keep the British people safe, and this new agreement bolsters both our countries efforts in going after the terrorists and serious and organised crime gangs that seek to do us harm.

“The partnership will help to keep the public safe, protect our prosperity and bring dangerous criminals to justice.”

Minister of State Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh said: “The UAE stands with the UK in the global fight against illicit finance. We are committed to stamping out terrorist financing and serious and organised crime in all of its forms to protect the UAE and uphold the integrity of the international financial system.

The partnership marks a key milestone in the close cooperation between the UAE and UK. Through the robust, collaborative structure of the partnership, the UAE is determined to advance our shared priorities and reinforce our efforts to keep our two nations safe, prosperous and secure.”

The partnership will bolster both countries’ law enforcement agencies by enhancing intelligence sharing and joint operations between the UK and UAE against serious and organised crime networks.

The UK and UAE’s understanding of terrorist financing internationally will also be improved by sharing insight and expertise to help identify and stop terrorist financial flows.

Lastly, the partnership will raise professional standards on anti-money laundering, with a particular focus on high-risk sectors such as dealers of precious metals and stones, and real-estate as well as emerging technologies such as crypto currencies.

There will be an annual meeting between the Home Secretary and the Minister of State to ensure progress on the partnership’s ambitious objectives.
