Mohamed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Bahrain discuss bilateral ties, latest regional and global developments

ABU DHABI, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Bahrain, discussed ways of strengthening bilateral fraternal ties in a way that benefit their people.

During official talks held today at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi, the two leaders took stock of the latest regional and global issues of mutual interest. They reviewed the state of economic, investment, trade, developmental and political cooperation and explored prospects for furthering this cooperation. They affirmed their common sincere desire to push bilateral relations forward and achieve qualitative leaps to serve development and progress in the two countries and contribute to building a prosperous future for their peoples.

The two sides also discussed Gulf and Arab developments and issues in the regional and international arenas and exchanged views. They also underscored the importance of joint action to cement the foundations of peace, stability and cooperation in the region for the benefit and development of its peoples.

The meeting also addressed the cooperation of the two countries and their joint efforts to confront the COVID-19 pandemic, mitigate its effects and contain its repercussions.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and the Crown Prince of Bahrain also touched on the Expo 2020 Dubai and the active participation of Bahrain where the GCC country presents its culture, civilisation and bright future vision for its people.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed affirmed that the UAE-Bahrain ties have lived up to the aspirations of the two peoples for strong cooperation and integration and materialise the fraternity bonds into programmes and projects that serve the development, progress and renaissance in both countries. “The UAE and Bahrain share a longstanding history. Our ties with Bahrain go beyond the official profile to be a special one and have endured challenges before and after the Union,” he said.

He also expressed his appreciation for the permanent positions of the Kingdom of Bahrain with the UAE and their work for stability and peace in the region and the world.

Prince Salman affirmed the advanced levels of distinguished relations that bind together the Kingdom of Bahrain and the sisterly UAE. The bilateral relations enjoy the care and support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa of Bahrain, and his brother, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The Crown Prince of Bahrain recorded a message in the VIP visitor book in Al Watan Palace, in which he expressed his thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome to him and his delegation. He wished further growth and progress for the brotherly relations and cooperation between the two countries to achieve their shared interests, and the continuity of goodness, dignity and prosperity for the country.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the Crown Prince of Bahrain and his delegation.

The meeting and banquet were attended by H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, H.H. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Sheikh Sultan bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Ambassador to Bahrain, Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Executive Director of the Martyrs’ Families’ Affairs Office at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Airports, and a number of ministers and senior officials.

Dubai-based University of Wollongong, Australia Pavilion partner to showcase educational expertise

DUBAI, University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) is set to participate on the global stage at Expo 2020 Dubai across key educational programmes and through a fruitful partnership with the Australia Pavilion.

From November to December this year, Expo 2020 Dubai will conduct focused sessions and talks on varied subjects led by experts from the education sector on themes such as educational barriers, innovation and the future of work.

In alignment with Expo 2020 Dubai’s theme – “Connecting Minds, Creating the Futures”, UOWD’s academics will be part of key talks throughout the six-month event, helping to promote activities at the Australia Pavilion and see 150 university students participating in various internship opportunities across the global event.

Professor Mohamed Salem, President of UOWD, said, “With the outstanding support from the Australian Pavilion, we are delighted to have our academics and thought leaders showcase the university’s commitment to education and contribute to the UAE’s future generations. Prof. Pascal Perez, Director of the Smart infrastructure facilities at UOW, Dr. May ElBarachi, UOWD’s Associate Dean, Research and an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering & Information Sciences, will take part in a panel discussion on the future of decarbonisation of transportation in smart cities.

As part of Tolerance and Inclusion Week which runs from 14th – 20th November 2021, Dr. Feras Hamza, UOWD’s Head of School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Health, will host a public lecture on how fostering a greater common understanding enables more tolerant and inclusive societies through relationships with the media and storytelling.

UOWD will also be heavily involved with activities taking place at the Australia Pavilion.

Dubai records resounding AED1.7 bn worth of realty transactions Tuesday

DUBAI, Dubai’s real estate market Tuesday recorded thumping transactions worth AED1.7 bn, including 267 sales valued at AED730.08 million.

Land sales amounted to AED218.32 million while AED511.76 million apartment and villa sales deals were conducted, data released by the emirate’s Land Department (DLD) showed.

This is in addition to mortgage deals of AED963.58 million and 23 gift transactions amounting to AED41.95 million.

Dubai Marina was the best performer where 33 apartment and villas sales deals were conducted worth AED83 million, followed by Business Bay and then Al Barsha.

Central Laboratory of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation reduced gas emissions by up to 90% last year

DUBAI, In line with the requirements and standards of Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030, the Central Laboratory of Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation seeks to ensure air quality and reduce gas emissions in the free zones under the jurisdiction of the corporation, to protect public health and promote environment-friendly manufacturing industries by reducing air pollution during the phases of development and construction.

Sultan bin Sulayem, President of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, praised the efforts of the industrial facilities, which are under the jurisdiction of the corporation, in reducing gaseous emissions in the atmosphere in a manner that exceeds the expected level. It succeeded in reducing them by up to 90 percent during the past year, by following government policies and directions through the implementation of programmes and initiatives to enhance the quality of the environment in the areas affiliated with the corporation.

Bin Sulayem explained that the Central Laboratory of Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) Department performs several tests to examine the air quality around the free zones, including conducting a gaseous emissions analysis, which measures the level of pollutants emitted into the atmosphere from chimneys and pipes that may contain particles within gases, vapours and fumes.

He added, “The Central Laboratory of the PCFC provides another test that analyses the air quality in the surrounding environment inside the surrounding buildings and facilities, as it relates to the health and comfort of the building’s occupants.”

Bin Sulayem reassured that the EHS Department plans to develop new initiatives to improve air quality and efficiency at the federal and local levels, once the implementation of the current strategy items, related to reducing pre-determined gas emissions is completed.

The role of the Central Laboratory ensures the efficiency of the surrounding environment by conducting a volatile organic compound (VOC) test, which detects a variety of chemicals emitted as gases in the environment, by using certain types of equipment and devices attached to the Central Laboratory.

Regarding the standards used in laboratory tests at the Central Laboratory, the laboratory of the EHS follows all the standards stipulated by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the American Public Health Association (APHA), the Environmental Protection Agency in America (US-EPA) and the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), as well as provisions of the Code of Federal Regulations, and other relevant international standards.
