Sharjah Women’s Sports Club to represent UAE at West Asia Regional Junior Championships qualifiers

SHARJAH, The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club (SWSC) female athletes representing the UAE national badminton team will take part in the qualifiers of the West Asia Regional Junior Championships 2022.

 

Qualifiers for the Arab region will take place at the Xtra Sports Badminton Academy in Sharjah on Sunday.

 

The West Asia Regional Junior Championships 2022 are scheduled to take place in Kuwait from November 4–12.

 

This was the second time the players of the SWSC participated in the game after badminton was added to the club’s list of approved sports.

 

Fifteen female players from the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, donning the UAE colours, will participate in the qualifiers. Five of them reached the final stage. Hind Saeed Al Mazrouei also qualified to the Championships of the U-15 category.

 

Belqees Al Shehhi, Head of the Individual Games Department at Sharjah Women’s Sports, said the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club players are ready to compete in the qualifiers to secure a spot at the West Asia Regional Junior Championships.

 

She revealed that this will be the second time the badminton players of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club are taking part in the game following the adoption of the game. The last time they competed was in a badminton tournament held at the Al Nasr Club in Dubai in August and witnessed the participation of 38 players from three different clubs.

 

The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s fencing team marked the beginning of the new season following their participation in the Federation Championship held for 13–15 year olds, which took place at Asmaa Bint Al-Numan Hall in Dubai.

DFM plans to adopt new index methodology during Q4 2022

DUBAI, Dubai Financial Market (DFM) today announced that it is planning to adopt a new methodology for its DFM General Index, DFM Sharia Index, and DFM Sector indices, during the fourth quarter of 2022 (Q4 2022).

 

These indices are to be calculated by S&P Dow Jones Indices.

 

This step underscores DFM’s commitment to continuously developing its services in line with international best practices and to cater to investors’ growing appetite towards its investment opportunities. It also provides market participants with world-class investable benchmarks for the DFM equity market.

 

Key improvements and additions to the indices’ methodology include capping the threshold of a DFM index individual constituent at 10 percent of the index weightage instead of 20 percent currently, hence limiting the effect of limited number of companies on the index. The index calculation will be based on actual free float adjusted market capitalisation and quarterly rebalancing of the index replacing the current semiannual review.

 

The index methodology is governed by a DFM independent index committee that will supervise current and future methodology changes.

 

As part of the methodology changes, the DFM’s sectors will be aligned with the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS) that are tracked by institutional clients. Going forward, the sectors will comprise seven sectors: Financials, Industrials, Real Estate, Utilities, Communication Services, Materials and Consumer Staples.

 

The DFM has opened a market consultation on the new index methodology which is available at www.dfm.ae/consultation. DFM aims to complete the consultation by 17th of October and launch the revised indices during the fourth quarter of 2022.

The agreement between DFM and S&P Dow Jones Indices can facilitate an appropriate setting for the introduction of other index-related products in the future.

Dubai Culture launches cultural experiences at Etihad Museum

DUBAI, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) has launched a programme series at Etihad Museum, through which it will present a wide range of engaging events and activities celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the UAE.

 

Programmed by Alserkal Advisory, the series will provide an exceptional cultural and entertainment experience to the museum’s visitors throughout the year.

 

This initiative falls within the framework of Dubai Culture’s commitment to enhance culture accessibility within the society and encourage active participation in the emirate’s cultural and creative scene through engaging programmes in museums and heritage sites that celebrate local cultural heritage.

 

Khulood Khaled Al Nuaimi, Manager of Events at Etihad Museum, stated that the Etihad Museum programming, which is scheduled to launch on 7th October, 2022, and will continue until June 2023, will celebrate the creative voices shaping the thriving cultural scene in the UAE via the inspiring story of its founding.

The programme also includes the Museum Talks series, where speakers from various disciplines are hosted in rich dialogue sessions with the aim of spreading insight among attendees on a range of topics, from the tangible and intangible Emirati cultural heritage, the impact and significance of museums within society, and the design dimensions of cultural infrastructure.

 

In addition, a series of activations await visitors of the museum aimed at enriching knowledge and developing skills, including adult workshops in a number of creative fields, such as calligraphy and drawing. Ahmed bin Mohammed to attend opening of milestone 20th edition of Arab Media Forum

DUBAI, Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Media Council, is set to attend the opening of the 20th edition of the Arab Media Forum (AMF) on Monday 4th October, 2022.

 

Organised by the Dubai Press Club, the two-day event is being held at Madinat Jumeirah, Dubai.

 

The region’s largest media gathering is set to attract more than 3,000 media personalities and professionals from across the Arab world. Sheikh Ahmed will also attend the 21st edition of the Arab Media Award, which will recognise excellence across three key media sectors: Journalism, TV and Digital Media. The Award will also name the Arab Media Personality of the Year.

 

H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed welcomed delegates and guests of the milestone 20th edition of the AMF.
