UAE President, VP congratulate Emir of Qatar on success of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, sent a cable of congratulations to the Emir of Qatar, H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, on the success of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also dispatched similar cable of congratulations to the Emir of Qatar.

Dubai to host world’s largest congress for plastic surgery societies

DUBAI, Dubai will host the Annual World Congress of the International Confederation of Plastic Surgical Societies (ICOPLAST) from 5th – 7th May 2023, which is expected to attract more than 1,500 delegates from over 60 international societies, and visitors from more than 112 countries.

Organised in collaboration with the Arab Association of Surgical & Medical Aesthetics (AASMA) and the Emirates Plastic Surgery Society (EPSS), the global event will be held at the Dubai World Trade and Convention Centre for the first time in the Middle East.

The event provides a platform for stakeholders from across the industry including plastic surgeons, aesthetic and anti-ageing medicine physicians, residents, medical students, nurses and representatives of industry leaders to share new knowledge and innovation in the field.

The rich agenda of the Congress features workshops and talks on key current topics in plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. In addition, the Congress will see experts presenting peer-reviewed research papers highlighting the latest discoveries in the field.

Dr. Jamal Jomah, President of AASMA, said, “The event caters to the immense demand from both start-ups and established national and international businesses in the sector for professional networking platforms and opportunities to interact with the public. The event will discuss the high calibre research being done by renowned plastic surgeons and leaders in plastic surgery and aesthetic medicine.”

Key topics that will be discussed at the Congress include surgical approaches to facial aesthetics, updates in breast surgery, state-of-the-art techniques in body contouring and advances in regenerative surgery and medicine.

The event will also discuss recent updates in the treatment of breast implant illness (BII), innovative technologies in non-surgical face and body rejuvenation and minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Zuhair AlFardan, the President of EPSS said, “This event will attract over 150 exhibitors from all over the world, who will showcase the latest technologies and advances in the field of aesthetic and plastic surgery.”

The event will shed light on current trends in the global cosmetic surgery market that is projected to grow from $46.02 billion in 2021 to $58.78 billion in 2028, despite the global impact of COVID-19.

The UAE has seen a significant rise in demand for cosmetic procedures in recent years. The aesthetics industry has emerged as one of the most important contributors to the growth of medical tourism in the UAE, driven by a significant increase in the number of international and regional patients and the expansion of the local pool of trained industry professionals with international qualifications. Currently, cosmetic surgery is one of the top five procedures sought by medical tourists to the emirate.

The Presidents of EPSS and AASMA said they are delighted to partner with plastic surgery societies from around the world to create a platform for advancing learning and best practices in the field. They said Dubai’s exceptional hospitality and event infrastructure make it the ideal venue for the Congress.

UAE participates in 17th Asia Pacific Regional Meeting of International Labour Organisation

SINGAPORE, The UAE has participated in the 17th Asia Pacific Regional Meeting of the International Labour Organisation (ILO), which was organised in Singapore.

More than 500 representatives of governments, labour organisations and companies from 33 of the 48-member countries of the Asia Pacific Group of ILO took part in the meeting.

The meeting discussed labour priorities and ways to promote employment, especially against the backdrop of the COVID-19 impact and issues affecting labour in Asia Pacific. It also focused on the national labour and employment policies and the future role of the ILO across the region.

Speaking during the regional meeting, Shayma Al Awadhi, Acting Assistant Under-Secretary for Communication and International Relations at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), reaffirmed the UAE’s support for the Global Coalition for Social Justice, stressing the importance of exchanging international experiences to help stimulate economic growth and recovery.

In her speech, Al Awadhi highlighted the UAE’s prompt response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the successful national vaccination campaign, supportive macroeconomic policies, especially for affected sectors and SMEs, the economic recovery in the backdrop of the success of Expo 2020 Dubai, as well as the foreign investments influx into the country.

Al Awadhi reiterated the high growth rates of the country’s economy, driven by the impact of new legislations, which included developing and updating 40 laws, including on regulating labour relations, entry and residency of expatriates, businesses and industrial property.

She also discussed the importance of adopting advanced technology across industries as a basic pillar for the development of UAE’s economy. She highlighted key initiatives, strategies, and efforts to diversify the economy by boosting non-oil GDP, including continued support to green and circular economy.

Al Awadhi also drew attention to the historical challenges to the global economic and social system, highlighting the fact that the UAE is hosting the 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP28) in 2023, where discussions will focus on the impact of climate change on labour markets and economic migration across countries around the world.

Apart from Al Awadhi, the UAE delegation included Khalifa Khamis Al Kaabi, Member of the ILO Governing Body of the Employers Group, and Zayed Saeed Al Shamsi, Chairman of the Board of Coordinating Assembly for Occupational Societies in the UAE, among other Ministry officials.

Dubai’s District Cooling Operators Association discusses ways for conserving natural resources, reducing carbon footprint

DUBAI, The District Cooling Operators Association in Dubai has discussed in it’s meeting held recently, ways to protect natural resources and increase efficiency in the district cooling operations, especially after the remarkable increase in adoption of district cooling systems by the public and private sectors in the emirate.

The meeting was chaired by Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chairman of the Association, and the CEO of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation PJSC (Empower), in the presence of the representation of member companies, Emaar District Cooling, Emirates District Cooling LLC (Emicool), National Central Cooling Company PJSC (Tabreed), Al Futtaim Engineering and Meydan District Cooling, besides representatives from the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE) and Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau (RSB) Dubai.

At the outset of the meeting, Bin Shafar appreciated the local and international investors for the great confidence on the Dubai’s district cooling sector that was witnessed during the Empower IPO as the cooling industry has now become an integral part of Dubai’s economy.

The meeting witnessed in-depth discussions of its agenda, and among the most prominent issues that were addressed and researched is the need to unify efforts and mobilise all energies to enhance the sector’s work at the local level, and in a manner that enhances its performance globally, as well as emphasising the use of recycled water in district cooling operations and rationalisation of electricity consumption in implementation of the government directives on protecting natural resources and reducing the carbon footprints.

The importance of installing smart meters to consumers in order to determine district cooling consumption was another subject discussed by the attendees, and developing of efficient complaints management systems that achieves customer satisfaction and provides high-quality services.

“Though established recently, the Dubai District Cooling Operators Association has begun to influence the advancement of the district cooling industry, especially its members are the ones who take upon themselves to perform this task, whose fruits have become the focus of attention of countries seeking to preserve its resources, protect the environment and the public health, achieve the highest sustainability practices and attain the green economy outputs”, Bin Shafar said.

He also stressed that the issue of the use of recycled water should be given greater attention and made it a top priority in cooling operations.

The participants stressed the importance of increasing the scope of district cooling and the importance of integrating modern technologies into the sector’s work mechanism, and the need to unify efforts to strengthen the industry locally and globally, especially since the size of the district cooling market in the UAE is one of the largest in the world with a capacity of 3 million refrigeration tons (RT).

Governments of UAE, Guyana launch ‘Guyana Coders Initiative’ to train youth for future solutions

DUBAI/GEORGE TOWN, Under the patronage and presence of Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, the governments of the UAE and Guyana launched the Guyana Coders Initiative (GCI).

This forthcoming initiative was conceived as part of government knowledge exchange collaboration between the two countries and marks a first in Latin American.

This initiative is heavily inspired by the “One Million Arab Coders” initiative that was launched in 2017 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, aiming to build youth capabilities in programming and enhance their knowledge in mastering the language of the future.

The launch was attended by Guyanese government officials, including Deodat Indar, Minister of Public Works, and Priya Manikchand, Minister of Education.

The UAE government was represented by Abdulla Nasser Lootah, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Competitiveness and Experience Exchange and Director-General of the Cabinet’s Presidency Office at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, as well as UAE ambassador to Brazil and non-resident ambassador to Guyana Saleh Ahmad Alsuwaidi, along with a number of Guyanese students and other country officials.

Guyana’s President Dr. Irfaan Ali stated that Guyana is working on implementing one of the major disruptive projects in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector, through launching the Guyana Coders Initiative as one of the largest digital transformational projects in the region in collaboration with the UAE Government, aiming to provide youth with the fundamental basics of coding, and incubates the talent that will speardhead the development of the community.

He further added, “As the world is becoming more computer-based, Guyana needs to adjust itself to digital transformation and advanced technology. It is time to understand these transformations and invest in the Guyanese human capital. Once young people manage to efficiently participate in promoting the economy and attracting global investments, Guyana will become one of the most important data hubs in the world.”

For his part, Lootah affirmed the UAE government has a vital goal in seeking qualitative partnerships that support efficient future governments. “The UAE government endeavours to implement an ambitious economic vision through sharing its expertise with other nations. In so doing, it ensures effective performance and reliable readiness for future challenges.”

He noted that cooperating with Latin American countries is key to achieving the goals of the Government Experience Exchange Programme. “Thanks to the pioneering experience of the UAE, aspiring governments can benefit in enhancing government services and competencies in designing the future.”

The Guyana Coders Initiative targets youth and talents to train and develop digital literacy and promote the country’s global position, which was inspired by the “One Million Arab Coders” initiative that was launched in 2017 by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ensuring youth’s readiness for the future and prepares the next generation of technology experts, targeting 1.2 million regional and international participants.

The Guyana Coders Initiative aims to train hundreds of thousands of Guyanese as coders online and provide a solid digital platform to build their capacities and empower their participation in the development of knowledge economy over the next three years. The Initiative targets the foundational skills in the areas of coding, data science and application development. It also offers internationally accredited training programmes carried by certified professionals.

The Guyana Coders Initiative is part of the bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Guyanese Governments, which has achieved several goals in 9 fields: government accelerators, government performance, government innovation, competitiveness and statistics, leadership and capacity building, coding (the One Million Arab Coders Initiative), future foresight, and smart services (Smart App Awards). The programme also organises regular workshops and training programmes to for the Guyanese governmental staff.

In March 2022, the UAE and Guyanese leaderships launched the cooperation in the Government Experience Exchange Programme as part of the World Government Summit to empower the exchange of knowledge, expertise, and successful experiences.

‘World’s Coolest Winter’ campaign launches new website

DUBAI, The World’s Coolest Winter” campaign, which is carried out by UAE Government Media Office in cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and the entities concerned with tourism, culture and heritage in the country, has launched its new website.

The website offers users an interactive experience as it provides information about the most important tourist attractions in each Emirate in both Arabic and English languages.

The new website (

https://worldscoolestwinter.ae/ar) comes as a part of the efforts aiming at further supporting domestic tourism and outbound tourism to attract tourists from all over the world.

The third edition of the campaign adopts the theme “Our Heritage” in favor of highlighting the rich Emirati values and culture and its distinct features that include hospitality, tolerance and solidarity.

The website lists the most famous local souks including the Friday Market and Al Bahar souk in Fujeirah, and the Gold souk.

The campaign’s website provides a map of the famous cycling paths in the country, as well as a number of UAE islands, which are considered among the most beautiful tourist destinations for visitors and tourists, in addition to a guide for places that allow caravan camping and its requirements.

The website also presents a number of locations called the “Hidden Gems of the UAE”, such as the Hatta secret pool that was named by this name as a result of its location between the high rocky mountains, which makes it a hidden place that individuals can reach only after walking through the mountains. Visitors can sit near the pools, relax, swim, or enjoy fishing.

The campaign’s website also highlights the most famous hiking paths in the country and a number of places that offer unique and fun activities for children.
