DUBAI, The World Government Summit (WSG) and the Washington-based think tank the Atlantic Council will launch the inaugural Global Climate Technology and Policy (ClimateTech) Forum as part of WSG’s 2023 agenda on February 13-15. The forum will foster global dialogue on the pivotal role of governments in finding feasible, innovative energy and technology approaches to address climate challenges.

The ClimateTech Forum will gather top decision makers, government officials, civil service organizations, and experts to address energy security and the potential of large-scale climate technologies as key areas for government leaders and policymakers to discuss.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, Managing Director of the World Government Summit Organization said: “The forum’s agenda is in accordance with the “Year of Sustainability”. It reflects the UAE’s directions for sustainable economic development and climate neutrality.”

He noted: “The ClimateTech Forum is a global platform that addresses energy and technology policy issues, and the role of international cooperation in finding solutions for the challenges of climate change.”

Al Olama highlighted the important role of the World Government Summit, in gathering presidents, ministers, heads of international organizations, experts and decision makers to discuss major issues facing the world, including climate change and how to reduce its repercussions on human health and the environment in general.

Fruitful Dialogue.

Frederick Kempe, president and CEO of the Atlantic Council, welcomed the Council’s partnership with the WGS in organizing the forum, which will serve as a means to bring decision makers and experts into dialogue on one of the top global challenges.

“Cooperation to confront climate change must be a foremost global priority,” said Kempe. “Action on climate entails ambition, steadfast political will, and fruitful discussion between nations, all of which will be on display at this forum.”

Kempe signaled that the forum will foster rich dialogue between decision makers from around the globe aimed at finalizing plans and actions that achieve carbon neutrality and further mitigate climate change while reinforcing global energy security. It will also strengthen international cooperation to formulate policies and solutions that promote adaptation to current and future climate challenges.

“Countries should enforce strategies that improve quality of life and implement green development initiatives while taking swift action to stimulate sustainable development,” Kempe added. “This event will be an important launching pad for that effort.”

Green Development

The Forum will highlight energy security, the future of a zero-carbon economy, energy prices’ impact on the economy, and the need for global governance of large-scale climate technologies.

The ClimateTech Forum comes as the UAE prepares to host the 28th United Nations Conference of the Parties (COP28) Climate Change Conference this year, which will assess global progress in tackling climate change.

Through its sessions, forums, and dialogues, this year’s edition of the WGS will discuss the most notable global challenges – both existing and future – and how to strengthen the capabilities and readiness of governments to cope with changes and future challenges.

The WSG 2023 will host a set of interactive dialogue sessions on 6 main themes, including Accelerating Development and Governance, Future of Societies and Healthcare, Exploring the Frontiers, Governing Economic Resilience and Connectivity, Global City Design and Sustainability, and Prioritizing Learning and Work.

DUBAI, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced the registration of a new patent for an adhesive device for 3D printers. The device distributes the adhesive material on the 3D printing plate, ensuring that the printed material sticks securely to the build plate. This is the seventh patent registered by DEWA’s Research and Development Centre (R&D).

The R&D Centre is responsible for supporting innovation in all production and operational areas and has published 134 research papers at international scientific conferences, journals, and peer-reviewed publications.

The CEO of DEWA, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, emphasised that this achievement supports DEWA’s efforts to develop advanced infrastructure and specialised in 3D printing and additive manufacturing. The organisation uses 3D printers to produce prototypes and spare parts for its generation, transmission, and distribution divisions, and to digitize its inventory.

The R&D Centre’s efforts are part of Dubai’s 10X initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which mandates the city to be a global leader that is ten years ahead of all other cities. The initiative supports the Dubai 3D Printing Strategy, which aims to make Dubai a global hub for 3D printing technology by 2030.

Waleed Bin Salman, the Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, stated that the R&D Centre has enriched the scientific community with specialised research and developed the capabilities of its researchers.
