IDEX offers promising economic and defence opportunities: Assistant Undersecretary for Support and Defence Industries

ABU DHABI, The UAE is reaping military, economic, and technical gains from hosting major international events, particularly in the field of defence manufacturing, which achieved great quantitive and qualitative leaps forward, enabling the UAE’s defence products with their high standards to compete with the biggest defence companies in the world, said Dr. Mubarak Saeed bin Ghafan Al Jabri, Assistant Undersecretary for Support and Defence Industries at the Ministry of Defencein a statement to Al Jundi Journal, the monthly military and cultural magazine issued by the Ministry of Defense, ahead of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX), the Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) 2023.

“Today, the UAE stands ready to organise IDEX and NAVDEX 2023, the most prominent event on the global defence calendar, both of which have gained added value from their efficient and professional organisation in the UAE, providing them with every opportunity for success and excellence,” Dr. Mubarak Al Jabri.

Likewise, He added, the UAE benefited militarily, economically, and technically from hosting the two exhibitions, particularly in the field of defence manufacturing, which achieved great quantitive and qualitative leaps forward, enabling the UAE’s defence products with their high standards to compete with the biggest defence companies in the world.

‘’The success of the UAE’s defence industry is the result of a complete system rooted in the unlimited support of the country’s leadership, led by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.”

Al Jabri said that this success stems from a complete system consisting of the developed economic environment, keeping pace with advancements in the global technological and knowledge fields and the employment of global partnerships in transferring experience and knowledge in a way that ensures the preparation of a distinguished Emirati cadre possessing the best skills and employing them in service of the sustainable development of the various aspects of the local defence industry.

Moreover, he added, partnerships with distinguished local institutions such as the cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MoIAT) and drawing on its experiences, achievements, and cadres in the fields of manufacturing, planning, and strategies, led to a major industrial renaissance in the UAE and constituted an important driver of progress in the defence industries sector.

‘’Having attracted attention during the previous edition, the current event constitutes an appropriate platform for highlighting the great development in the defence industries sector, which is expected to generate sales to various countries which will find that the UAE’s defence products suit their needs.The rapid growth of the defence industry has achieved in about 15 years what other countries take decades to do, which reaffirms the belief that the UAE will gain more momentum in the coming years, thus ensuring it an advanced global position in the field of defence in the next decade.”

IDEX: An epic achievement in organising defence exhibitions: Mohammed Khalfan Al Mehairi

ABU DHABI, Mohammed Khalfan Al Mehairi, Office Director of the Minister of Defence, said that the UAE is moving steadily on its development path towards the next 50 years with full confidence and competence, armed with a strategic stock of development plans and wise leadership that enabled it to climb the highest ranks of development in various fields, especially defence.

In a statement to Al Jundi Journal, the monthly military and cultural magazine issued by the Ministry of Defense, ahead of the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX), the Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX), Al Mehairi said that:”Today, the UAE is preparing to welcome the world again to its capital to attend the major international defence event “IDEX and NAVDEX 2023″, and the accompanying international conference from February 20th to 24th in Abu Dhabi, where we will all celebrate the amazing successes and achievements made by IDEX and NAVDEX since their first launch in 1993 and 2011 respectively, under the patronage of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.”

He added that this international event, which will experience a qualitative leap at all levels, has garnered the attention and follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which will consolidate the status of the two exhibitions and amplify their role in supporting local, regional and international defence industries.

Dubai Police announces Diploma in explosives science

DUBAI, The Dubai Police General Command has launched a 2-year academic diploma in the field of explosives science called “Applied Explosives Science and Technology of Munitions”.

Major General Prof. Dr. Ghaith Ghanem Al Suwaidi, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Academic and Training Affairs, reaffirmed the keenness of Dubai Police, in cooperation with its partners, to enhance and achieve the national strategic pillars and objectives in the field of providing safety and security.

“The programme aims to enhance the expertise and capabilities of security personnel in dealing with explosives, detecting them, and defusing bombs, thus ensuring a 100 percent success rate in explosives security,” he indicated.

Colonel Hisham Al-Suwaidi, Director of the Explosives Security Department at Dubai Police, has confirmed that this innovative and new programme is the world’s first.

“It features four scientific courses that obtained intellectual compilations, and it has also obtained a special intellectual compilation from the Ministry of Economy. The programme is also approved by the Dubai Knowledge Authority,” he said.

Colonel Al-Suwaidi added that the programme’s innovative idea has already contributed to a radical change in the security system at the Explosives Security Department.

“The Department has received nine international memberships from reputable organisations such as the International Technical Committee IETC and the Institute of Explosive Engineers IEXPE, as well as 11 memberships at the federal level,” he concluded.

He noted that the great turnout achieved by IDEX, one edition after another, paved the way for organisers to expand the presentation platform of the most important advanced defence industries, prompting the launch of the Naval Defence & Maritime Security Exhibition (NAVDEX) for the first time in 2011 in conjunction with IDEX.

He indicated, “This move greatly increased the diversity of IDEX and provided a larger number of manufacturers with the opportunity to showcase their latest defence products in the land, sea and air domains.

UAE ambassador presents credentials to Crown Prince of Liechtenstein

VADUZ, Dr. Hissa Abdulla Ahmed Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation, presented her credentials to Prince Alois, Crown Prince of Liechtenstein, as Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to the Principality of Liechtenstein.

Ambassador Al Otaiba conveyed to Prince Alois the greetings of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and their wishes for further progress and prosperity for Liechtenstein and its people.

For his part, Prince Alois conveyed his greetings to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, and expressed his wishes for the goverment and people of the UAE to achieve further growth and prosperity.
