Shamma Al Mazrui highlights pivotal role of youth in global climate action

ABU DHABI, 19th March, 2023 (WAM) — Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development, Vice Chairman of the Arab Youth Centre, and COP28 Youth Climate Champion, reaffirmed the UAE’s leadership’s belief in the pivotal role of youth in global climate action. In an interview on the sidelines of “Road to COP28” activities held in Expo Dubai, Al Mazrui said that the UAE’s leadership also believes in the ability of youth to provide innovative visions to find solutions to tackle climate change, which poses a multifaceted challenge to humanity. She stressed that the UAE’s championing a climate pioneer role for youth for the first time in the history of the Conference of the Parties since its inception, puts youth at the centre of the event and presents the UAE model that enables youth to lead climate action to the world and makes it accessible to all, calling for the role of climate pioneer for youth to become fixed in future versions of the COP. l Mazrui explained that youths have always emphasised their desire to actively participate, and therefore the COP28 edition in the UAE will focus on achieving changes in the conference that will ensure their central participation in the annual global climate event. She further underscored the importance of achieving sustainable balance between economic development and energy transition, pointing out that the UAE encourages the exchange of experiences, expertise and knowledge to enhance and accelerate climate action. The Road to COP28 event witnessed the launch of the “International Youth Climate Delegate Programme” by the COP28 UAE Presidency, with the aim of enabling youth to effectively participate in the works and operations of the conference. UN 2023 Water Conference to accelerate progress towards universal access to safe water

NEW YORK, 19th March, 2023 (WAM) — The United Nations 2023 Water Conference, which takes place at UN Headquarters from 22nd-24th March, is being hailed as a once-in-a-generation opportunity to accelerate progress towards universal access to safe water and sanitation by 2030. The UN 2023 Water Conference will be a crucial moment to decide on concerted action to “take action and address the broad challenges surrounding water,” as explained by Li Junhua, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the Secretary-General of the event. The Conference will bring Heads of State and Government, Ministers, and stakeholders across all different sectors together achieve internationally agreed goals, including Sustainable Development Goal 6 of the UN’s 2030 Agenda for a fairer future; ensuring access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene for all. One of the main outcomes of the Conference will be the Water Action Agenda that will capture all water-related voluntary commitments and follow on their progress. Al Shamsi inaugurates vehicle inspection centre in Sharjah

SHARJAH, 19th March, 2023 (WAM) — Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, inaugurated a new centre for vehicle technical inspection in cooperation with Arabian Automobiles Company Al Rostamani. l Shamsi stressed Sharjah Police’s keenness on sustainability in providing its services to society to enhance customer satisfaction. He added that the opening of the new inspection centre is added to the series of inspection service centres in Sharjah, reaching 17 centres in total. UAE President receives President of Syria

ABU DHABI, 19th March, 2023 (WAM) — Bashar Al-Assad, President of the Syrian Arab Republic, arrived today in the UAE on an official visit accompanied by his wife, the First Lady of Syria Asma Al-Assad. Upon his arrival at the Presidential Flight in Abu Dhabi, he was received by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Emirati fighter jets escorted the plane carrying the Syrian President as he entered the UAE’s airspace, welcoming his visit. President Al-Assad was accorded an official reception upon his arrival at Qasr Al Watan in Abu Dhabi. President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed escorted the President of Syria to the podium, and the national anthem of Syria was played, while 21 rounds of artillery were fired to welcome his visit. The Syrian President was also received by H.H. Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Adviser; H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Ministry of Presidential Court; Ali Mohammed Hammad Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for National Security; Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President; Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy; Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice; and Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State. UAE expresses solidarity with Ecuador and Peru and offers condolences over earthquake victims

The UAE expressed its sincere condolences and solidarity with Ecuador and Peru over the victims of the earthquake that struck the two countries, resulting in a number of casualties.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the governments and peoples of the Republic of Ecuador and the Republic of Peru, and to the families of the victims of this tragedy, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured.
