Sudan Doctors Union Calls for End to Fighting

Sudan Doctors Union announced on Monday that roughly 97 civilians have been killed, and hundreds of others injured since the eruption of clashes in Sudan between the army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), pointing out that the number of casualties remains temporary due to the difficulty of access to all areas of military confrontations.

In a statement, the union urged the humanitarian organizations and the international and regional health commissions to provide aid and medical supplies to all hospitals and medical facilities in Khartoum and flashpoint areas in various states.

The statement called on the international community, the diplomatic and human rights organizations to ramp up pressure on the parties of the armed conflict in order to compel them to cease fire and end the combat operation, in addition to providing safe corridors for civilians and allowing the safe passage of ambulances and medical cadres.

In a statement published on Twitter, Sudan Armed Forces Spokesperson Gen Brigadier Nabil Abdallah called on all RSF affiliates to swiftly join the regular army at this critical historic juncture.

Some 180 detainees mainly belonging to the government and 710 Houthi militants have been freed over the last three days under the supervision of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Yemen Hans Grundberg, a press release from the government said on Sunday.

The former detainees also included four journalists who had been sentenced to death by the Houthis, 16 Saudi soldiers and three Sudanese soldiers, it said.
