Abu Dhabi: Gas flaring at Zakum oilfields has been reduced to zero, Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA OPCO), has unveiled.

A top ADMA-OPCO official said today that the achievement is part of the company’s strategy to reduce gas flaring in commitment to conserve the environment and cut carbon dioxide emissions.

Operators including Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA OPCO), Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), Saudi Aramco, and Qatargas met today at the Flare Management and Reduction Summit in Abu Dhabi to discuss and address the challenges of reducing gas flaring in the Middle East.

With a focus on zero flaring, day one featured a session on ADMA-OPCO with Mahboob Mian, Head of Environment Section, discussing the group’s multi-million dollar Gas Processing Facility (GPF) project in Zakum Fields and how it became the first project within ADMA-OPCO to achieve zero flaring. With 0.4 million standard cubic feet of gas recovered and reused each day through the facilities Vapour recovery system this sustainable project leads the way in increasing energy saving and more importantly increasing environmental protection.

“This event is very informative and beneficial because we are sharing our experiences at a regional and international lever, while learning about new technologies to reduce flaring and minimize the carbon footprint and emissions. Here in the UAE in particular, the government is committed to these environmental issues and we are striving to achieve a safer and cleaner environment”, said Mr. Mian.

IQPC Middle East’s Managing Director, Symon Rubens, said: “IQPC is honoured to be hosting the only flare reduction summit in the Middle East, bringing together the region’s key NOC’s and IOC’s to discuss this controversial issue that affects the global population as a whole. With the support of the World Bank’s GGFR partnership, the Flare Management and Reduction Summit is an opportunity for the Middle East to take the global lead and establish a regional collaboration between stakeholders and address the key flaring challenges faced by the industry today.
