DHAKA, — Dr. Amal Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the Federal National Council, FNC, has agreed with Ivonne Passada, President of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean, one of the largest geopolitical groups in the IPU, on the sidelines of IPU meetings in Bangladesh, to establish a Parliamentary friendship Commission between the Group of Gulf Countries and the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean, which aims to promote co-ordination and consultation in development relations between both groups in the political, economic, investment and cultural areas.
“We have prepared a draft Memorandum of Understanding that aims to establish a Parliamentary Friendship Committee between the Gulf Group and the Latin American Group, along the lines of the committee that was established between the FNC and the group,” Dr. Al Qubaisi said.
She added that they have agreed to send a draft agenda to be studied, in order to address various issues during the next meeting that will be held on the sidelines of the IPU meeting in Saint Petersburg in Russia next October. She noted that they will continue communication with members of the group until the next meeting to agree on the issues to be discussed.
“We have started systematic steps for our parliamentary action, in accordance with the agreement signed between the FNC and the Latin American Group and the implementation of what was agreed upon during the visit of the group’s delegation to the UAE last year. We look forward to building on what has been agreed to activate the mechanisms of communication,” Dr. Al Qubaisi said, while stressing the importance of setting an agenda with regards to issues of common interest, and to arrange bilateral meetings to keep pace with the directions of both sides, especially during their participation in the meetings of the IPU.
Dr. Al Qubaisi presented an official invitation to Ivonne Passada to visit the UAE and the FNC.
Passada thanked Dr. Al Qubaisi for the invitation and confirmed her acceptance while expressing her desire to visit the FNC. She also praised the UAE’s successful parliamentary diplomacy in international events, appreciated by various international parliamentary representatives. Passada also invited Dr. Al Qubaisi to visit the countries of her group to exchange experiences and discuss the development of co-operation.
