UAE-India gems-jewelry trade takes centre stage at Vibrant Gujarat Summit


NEW DELHI: Gems and jewelry will be a major focus at a ‘Country Seminar’ on UAE-India trade as part of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit opening on 10th January in Gandhinagar, capital of Gujarat state.

Started in 2003, the biennial Vibrant Gujarat Summit has become one of India’s most important global forums for creating strategic business partnerships, inclusive growth and knowledge sharing.

Trade finance, investment facilitation and start-up opportunities will be the other focus areas at the Country Seminar on UAE-India trade.

The government of Gujarat has released a stellar list of Indians from government, trade, industry, technology and specialised business who will participate in this Country Seminar.

They will be led by Piyush Goyal, India’s Minister for Commerce and Industry. Others include Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Harsha Bangari, Managing Director of EXIM Bank, and Nivruti Rai, Managing Director and C
EO of Invest India, the National Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency.

The focus on gems and jewelry is because Surat, a major city in Gujarat, is the world’s largest diamond trading hub and home to the world’s largest office building, the Surat Diamond Bourse.

Vipul Bansal, Joint Secretary in India’s Department of Commerce, will lead the discussions on the prospects of future gems and jewelry trade with the UAE.

Tapan Ray, Group CEO of Gandhinagar’s GIFT City, will also play a major role at the Country Seminar. GIFT City, which expands as Gujarat International Finance Tech-City, is being promoted as an international financial services centre by the state government.

Cutting-edge industrial solutions to be unveiled as SteelFab 2024 opens tomorrow at Expo Centre Sharjah


SHARJHA: SteelFab 2024, the biggest event of its kind across the Middle East and North Africa region, launches tomorrow, Monday, at Expo Centre Sharjah, bringing together over 275 exhibitors hailing from 35 countries for the exhibition’s 19th edition. The event, which is organised by the Centre with support from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is set to showcase the latest advancements in the metalworking field.

Through January 11, the exhibition will host over 600 local and international brands. Global manufacturers, producers, and suppliers in the iron and steel sector will have the chance to peruse innovative industrial technologies and solutions displayed by the field’s leading companies from the UK, Germany, Italy, the US, China, the Netherlands, and India, alongside local and regional companies.

SteelFab has become a much-anticipated annual event hosted by Expo Centre Sharjah, popular among stakeholders in the iron and steel sector and the numerous related industries. This year’s edition
features a robust agenda of events including a set of live demonstrations of cutting-edge iron and steel technologies, through which producers, industrialists, and experts in the metalworking industries will present the field’s latest developments and future prospects for the steel fabrication market.

The four-day exhibition will feature the latest technologies in the iron and steel industries, including machinery, equipment, and technology for steel production. Additionally, it will showcase CNC cutting systems, energy sources employed in cutting and welding machinery, materials and consumer products, accessories, electronic beam welding apparatus, material handling tools, cost-effective laser systems for metal cutting, steel processing machinery, and artificial intelligence robots.

SteelFab will open its doors to visitors from 10 am to 6 pm daily.

Winners of 12th Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award arrive in Dubai for honouring ceremony set for 10 January


DUBAI: Winners of the 12th edition of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award, part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives, have begun arriving in Dubai for the awards ceremony scheduled to be held on 10 January.

Recognising excellence across various sports disciplines, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award is the largest award of its kind in terms of prize money and categories, and the first dedicated to creativity in sports. The Award will celebrate 30 creative athletes, teams, personalities and institutions, each impactful in different sports.

In his remarks on the occasion, Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Award’s Board of Trustees, highlighted the remarkable success of the 12th edition of the Award, reflecting its growing impact as a leading platform for celebrating creativity in the field of sports in the region.

No UAE national airlines operating Boeing 737 Max 9: General Civil Aviation Authority


ABU DHABI: The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) today confirmed that none of the national airlines in the United Arab Emirates is operating any of the Boeing 737- MAX 9 aircraft, affected by the technical malfunction that occurred on a Boeing 737- MAX 9 plane operated by an American company on January 6, 2024.

This came in a statement by the GCAA today in response to the Boeing 737 Max 9 incident of a US company recently, as a result of which the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) decided to ground dozens of Boeing 737 Max 9s until the required inspections have been carried out.

The GCAA explained that the records related to the afore-mentioned aircraft model have been checked as well as the FAA’s announcements and directives in this regard, pointing out that it is continuously following up on all updates in this regard.
