DUBAI, The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) Innovation Centre, in collaboration with the Arab Youth Centre (AYC), organised a series of virtual technical training workshops on clean and renewable energy using artificial intelligence (AI) and latest technologies to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of energy.
The two-day workshop was attended by 57 young men and women from 15 Arab countries. These are specialists in information technology, engineering, applied sciences and technology from the Technology Fellowship for Arab Youth programme by the AYC.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, praised the continuous and fruitful cooperation between DEWA and AYC to hone the capabilities and expertise of young people and invest in their energies to be the next generation of sustainability leaders and experts and the cornerstone in ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
“DEWA launches a series of innovative programmes for young people to consolidate innovation in vital fields and sectors, and provide them with the necessary information, knowledge, sciences and technologies, in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, for the UAE to remain the incubator for the dreams and aspirations of young people, and the greatest platform for unleashing their capabilities. We are keen to provide an effective platform to empower young people, involve them in shaping and creating the future and provide them with the necessary tools and the latest innovative technologies, to motivate them to develop sustainable solutions to current and future challenges. This contributes to achieving sustainable and comprehensive development regionally and globally,” Al Tayer added.
Al Tayer highlighted that the Innovation Centre at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park contributes to enhancing the competitiveness and position of the UAE and Dubai as a platform for innovation, a destination for creators and an incubator for innovators from all over the world.
Shamma bint Suhail Al Mazrouei, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Vice President of the AYC, highlighted the fact that empowering the youth and providing them with specialised qualitative skills is a successful investment in the future. Tomorrow’s economies and communities are based on knowledge, innovation, competitiveness and excellence in skills.
Al Mazrouei pointed out the role of partnerships between organisations and experience centres, such as DEWA’s Innovation Centre, to enhance youth capabilities.
“Technologies and their applications open new opportunities in the digital economy, especially for the youth, who have the best skills to invest in technologies in different sectors. It speeds up the process of bridging the digital gap in several countries and communities. This has special importance as the world has made unprecedented steps in digital transformation and expansion using AI applications in the last several years. Thus it is important to enhance collaboration with partners to provide the youth with needed technical skills. This will prioritise them in the job market, innovation, and entrepreneurship. This helps them to be influential leaders in the technology sector locally and internationally in the future,” Al Mazrouei added.
This collaboration is the second one between the Innovation Centre and the AYC.
Last year, the two centres organised virtual technical training workshops on clean energy, with the participation of more than 100 youths, part of the Technical Fellowship for AYC specialising in information technology, engineering, applied sciences and various technology sectors.
