Dubai, UAE: Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry's representative office in Mozambique recently participated in Global Expo Botswana 2019 in Gaborone where it showcased Dubai's competitive advantages and explored business opportunities in Botswana and other emerging markets across Africa.
The international exhibition was attended by more than 250 companies from 13 countries and put the spotlight on industrial development, trade partnerships, economic diversification and investment opportunities.
During the event, Dubai Chamber received the International Exhibitor Award for its stand where visitors were briefed about Dubai's economy, business environment, the Chamber's activities and presence in Africa and the benefits of participating in the 5th Global Business Forum on Africa taking place in November 2019 in Dubai.
For his part, Omar Khan, said Director of International Offices at Dubai Chamber, said the Chamber's participation in Global Expo Botswana supported its efforts to explore promising markets around the world and identify new business opportunities for its members. He revealed that UAE's trade with Botswana has more than doubled from $500 million in 2015 to $1.4 billion in 2018, with diamonds accounting for more than 90% of Botswana's exports to the UAE, adding that the UAE has become a preferred re-export for Botswana diamonds.
Khan noted that there are several areas where the UAE and Botswana can expand bilateral trade in the future, such as meat and livestock, as such products in the African country are currently witnessing high demand in other markets due to their high quality. He explained that Dubai Chamber operates representative offices in four African countries, namely Mozambique, Ethiopia, Ghana and Kenya, and said the Chamber is currently looking at other African markets that offer the most trade and investment potential.
