Dubai Customs organized a lecture titled “Courtesy in Life & Leadership” delivered by H.E. Eng. Azza Sulaiman, former member of the Federal National Council. The lecture is part of Dubai Customs’ activities and events in the National Month of Reading, which is marked in March every year under the theme “Al Furdah Reads”.
A number of employees attended the virtual lecture.
The Government Department launched 12 educational initiatives during the month that target employees, clients and society with the aim of fostering a reading culture.
Sulaiman thanked Dubai Customs for their incessant efforts in enriching the Month of Reading with relevant activities and initiatives, and said since the launch of the National Literacy Strategy 2016-2021 many new libraries have been built, and reading and knowledge contests have been launched.
She talked about her own experience with reading, and how reading, which was her main pastime and passion when she was a child, developed her character and positively influenced her life.
She said; “Reading has never been easier. Books are available in different formats nowadays, and access to physical and digital libraries is very easy. Books teach us many things including how to be courteous to others. Courtesy costs nothing, yet its influence is great.”
Sulaiman mentioned 52 different ways in which we can be courteous to others such as commending others, sharing positive news, and emotional support.
