Emirati-Egyptian-French cardiologists to conduct open heart surgeries in Egypt

WAM Cairo, 10 Nov. 2012 (WAM) — A Starting from Sunday, a joint Emirati-Egyptian-French team of cardiologists will conduct open heart surgeries on underprivileged patients at the Sheikh Zayed Specialty Hospital as part of the humanitarian strategy of the Emirates World Heart Group in partnership with the Zayed Giving Initiative, UAE General Women’s Union and the World Heart Foundation.

Dr. Mohammed Al Hoby, Director of the Zayed Specialty Hospital, said that proper arrangements and facilities were in place for the endoscopic cardiac surgery, a procedure being used for the first time in Egypt. The voluntary medical mission is led by Emirati heart surgeon Dr. Adel Al Shameri, CEO of Zayed Giving Initiative.

He said the a number of critical and complex cases were prepared for the surgery.

He added that efforts were on to increase capacity of the hospital’s heart centre with assistance from the Zayed Giving Initiative so as to attend to the growing number of patients.

He paid tribute to H.H. Sheikha Fatima bin Mubarak, Chairwoman of the UAE General Women’s Union and patron of the Initiative, for her consistent support for the international humanitarian medical missions which provided free treatment to over one million children and conducted over 2600 heart surgeries in several countries.
