Manama, Electricity and Water Affairs Minister , Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, has congratulated Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), on the occasion of the celebration of the Bahraini Women's Day.
The minister said the continuous support of women by the Supreme Council for Women has contributed to the enhancement of the status of Bahraini women, especially as they have become a main pillar in the comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The minister praised the celebration of women in the field of higher education and future sciences, due to their contributions and achievements in this regard.
Bahraini women have succeeded in reaching many senior management positions through successive stages, to be doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers and specialists in all fields, he said.
Electricity and Water Authority (EWA)'s Chief Executive Officer, Shaikh Nawaf bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa, congratulated HRH Princess Sabeeka on the occasion, expressing his pride at the achievements made by Bahraini women in all fields and sectors.
He valued highly HM the King's unlimited support for Bahraini women, which, he said, has contributed to the enhancement of the status of Bahraini women and their success in reaching leadership positions.
The CEO said the Electricity and Water Authority places in the priorities of its educational and training strategy the training and development of Bahraini women on an ongoing basis to enable them to progress in the field of higher education in general, and in the areas of electricity and water in particular.
The minister and the CEO were attending an event to honour employees of the Electricity and Water Authority, its directors and heads of departments, as well as those with scientific qualifications on the occasion and in the presence of a delegation from the Supreme Council for Women.
During the celebration, the Executive Vice President of Electricity Production and Transmission and Chairman of the Equal Opportunities Commission at the Electricity and Water Authority Dr. Heba Harrara affirmed the authority's support to Bahraini women.
"The electricity and water sector employs 438 women, 34 of them are in administrative positions, which constitutes 19 per cent of the total, he said, adding that this is a testament to the continued support of the Bahraini women by the authority."
