FNC endorses federal draft law on national and reserve service

WAM ABU DHABI, 26th March, 2014 (WAM)–The Federal National Council (FNC) has approved the federal draft law on compulsory national and reserve service, which aims at forming national reserve force composed of youth to defend the country, its borders, achievements, as well as strengthen youth allegiance to the country, upgrade their sense of duty and participation.

The draft federal law was endorsed during the two-day ordinary third session of 15th legislative chapter held yesterday and today at the FNC, and chaired by the FNC Speaker Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr.

The FNC discussed on Tuesday eight articles of the draft law. It completed the discussion of all 44 articles of the draft law today.

Dr. Hadef Joan Al Dhahiri, Minister of Justice and Staff Lt. General Hamad Mohammed Thani Al Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces were present.

According to the federal draft law, the protection of UAE, its independence and sovereignty represent a sacred national duty to each Emirati. It stated that the national service will polish youth personalities and boost national spirit to meet future challenges. The national service also constitutes a source for strengthening capacity and efficiency of the armed forces, as it helps new generations to acquire various experiences.
