CAIRO — The National Media Council, NMC, will participate in the 48th session of the Arab Information Ministers’ Council, which is scheduled to take place Wednesday at the headquarters of the Arab League.
The NMC’s delegation to the ministerial meeting will be headed by Dr. Sultan bin Ahmad Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of State, and Chairman of the NMC, and will include Mansour Al Mansouri, Director-General of the NMC, Juma Mubarak Al Junaibi, UAE Ambassador to Egypt, and Ibrahim Al Abed, Advisor to the Chairman of the Council.
The session will be preceded by tomorrow’s meeting of the Arab Media Standing Committee, and the meeting of the 7th session of the Council’s Executive Office on the following day. Fawzi Al Ghwail, Director of the Technical Department of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, stated in a press statement today that the Arab Media Standing Committee will hold the meeting of its 89th Ordinary Session on Monday, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League, which will be headed by Dr. Abdul Mohsen bin Farouk Elias, Chairman of the Committee. In attendance will be Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, and the participation of media-related unions, organisations and institutions from the Council of Arab Information Ministers.
Al Ghwail added that those attending the Committee’s current session will discuss many important clauses, including a clause regarding the role of the Arab media to counter terrorism, as well the recommendations from the 17th meeting of permanent team of experts to monitor this role. The session will also discuss the combined media efforts of the Council’s member countries, to face terrorism that threatens the stability and security of the region and the world and review the media’s contributions in this regard, which require serious efforts from everyone, he added.
Al Ghwail clarified that those at the meeting will also discuss the latest updates regarding the Arab Media Standing Committee’s website, as well as recommendations from an electronic media workshop on facing extremist ideas, to take the necessary actions to implement these recommendations. He added that the Arab Media Standing Committee will also discuss the draft of the Arab Media Map for Sustainable Development 2030, which was prepared by the Media and Communications Sector, under the framework of implementing its Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 that was adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in September 2015. The Committee will give its recommendations to the media ministers of its member countries for confirmation, he added.
