Sharjah: National Media Council (NMC) and Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation and exchange of expertise to ensure the strategic partnership among competent authorities in the UAE in general and Sharjah in particular.
In accordance with the MoU, any requests regarding photography film in the Emirate of Sharjah will be referred to the NMC for approval to ensure the content conforms to the standards of media issued by the NMC.
It also calls for cooperation and the exchange of expertise between the two sides, especially in the areas of media licensing and follow up of the media content.
The two sides have agreed to set up an administrative cooperation framework, taking into account the objectives of each side and legal rules in a way that serves the main objectives and coordination in swapping of information.
The MoU reiterates that the NMC is tasked with following and assessing the media content broadcast by audio and visual mass media. It adds coordination will take place with SMC whenever necessary.
Commenting on the deal, Ibrahim Al Abed, Director General of the NMC stressed the importance of MoU, which comes in line with the message of NMC, and keenness of H. H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, Chairman of the NMC, to provide appropriate regulatory environment for information and communication in the UAE, indicating that the NMC is an official media reference for the country locally and abroad.
For his part, Osama Samra, Chairman of the SMC hailed the significance of cooperation with the NMC, lauding its contribution to reflection of the UAE’s media image locally and abroad. He added that the SMC works according to the UAE’s media strategy and through well-thought out plans and programmes aimed at improving the performance of the media in the emirate of Sharjah.
