FAHR issues circular amending measures to combat COVID-19 pandemic

DUBAI, The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) issued Tuesday a circular to all ministries and federal entities, amending some procedures aimed to combat the COVID-19 pandemic at the level of the federal government.

The circular is in line with the directives of the UAE government regarding the “Green Pass Protocol” for all federal government employees and the public seeking federal government services nationwide, which will be effective as of 3rd January, 2022.

The authority called on the ministries and federal authorities to abide by the procedures mentioned in its circular No. 21 of 2021, making sure that entry to these departments shall be confined to those individuals who have received two doses of UAE-approved COVID-19 vaccines and booster shots and to show a negative PCR test every 14 days to maintain the green status on Al Hosn app.

Meanwhile, those with vaccination exemption will be allowed entry, provided their green status is active on Al Hosn app, which will require taking a PCR test every seven days. Children aged under 16 will not be required to undergo PCR test.

The unvaccinated individuals and those with ‘grey status’ on the Al Hosn will not be allowed entry to federal government entities, according to the circular.

UAE University organises ‘colleges and research centres’ exhibition at Expo 2020 Dubai

DUBAI, UAE University (UAEU) is organising the “Colleges and Research Centres” exhibition from December 2021 to March 2022 to highlight its programmes and activities during participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.

The exhibition supports the university’s ambitions to be a centre for innovation and scientific knowledge. It also highlights researchers and students’ efforts and activities through presentations and experiences, according to organisers.

The UAE University’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, organises exhibitions for all university colleges and research centres to present achievements and innovations to the visitors. These exhibitions will be launched, starting with the Science Exhibition for Research and Educational Achievements, organised by the College of Science, with the participation of college students, researchers and faculty members.

These exhibitions will highlight the university’s efforts to find scientific solutions to societal challenges in different periods during its participation in Expo 2020 Dubai, through qualitative scientific research related to national strategic priorities. It will emphasise the great impact of these research outputs to serve the community at both local and global levels.

These exhibitions are also an excellent opportunity for researchers and faculty members to build effective community partnerships through communication and positive discussion with the UAEU pavilion visitors.

DWTCA signs agreement with Binance to participate in the world’s first virtual asset ecosystem

DUBAI, The Dubai World Trade Centre Authority (DWTCA) has signed a cooperation agreement with Binance, the world’s leading blockchain and cryptocurrency infrastructure provider, to establish a new international Virtual Asset ecosystem that enhances Dubai position as a global hub for the industry and generates long-term economic growth through digital innovation.

The agreement follows a recent announcement establishing DWTCA as the comprehensive zone and regulator for virtual assets and reflects Dubai’s continuous efforts to adopt advanced technologies, especially in Fin-tech sector.

Binance is one the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, responsible for $7.7 trillion crypto exchange volume in 2021, while the daily trading volume is around $80 billion, and the number of users is estimated at 28 million.

Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General of DWTCA, said, “Innovation is a byword for Dubai and this ‘Future-Economy’ environment is designed to catalyse collaboration, stimulate innovation and most importantly assure protection. In line with Dubai’s vision for a fully digital and inclusive society, this world’s first specialist Authority is Dubai’s active response to the industry’s call for support – so that service providers, technology enablers, and governments can co-create the next generation ecosystem for the global Virtual Asset Economy.”

DWTCA’s agreement with Binance to be one of the anchors in this new ecosystem is a pioneering move that aims to strike a balance between value creation and risk mitigation, prioritising equal investment enhancement opportunities for society while protecting the most financially vulnerable as priority.

The agreement reflects DWTCA’s commitment to engage with global industry shapers, and thought leaders, in order for Dubai to be able to create the first-of-its-kind ‘model’ Virtual Assets framework for the international community.

As per the agreement, Binance will also participate in this knowledge-sharing ecosystem by sharing its experience in collaborating with global regulators to aid the development of progressive Virtual Asset regulations. The goal is to help crypto exchanges, or businesses that offer blockchain and DLT services, or a wide range of digital currencies and assets to become licensed in Dubai.

Syrian Airlines runs six additional flights to Dubai from today

Damascus, The Syrian Airlines announced on Tuesday that it will operate additional flights from Damascus to Dubai, in addition to the previously approved flights.

Six additional flights will be run from Damascus to Dubai on the occasion of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and to meet the passengers’ growing demands, Director of Commercial Affairs at the Syrian Airlines, Louai Hassan told SANA

He noted that these flights are distributed during the period from December 21st to 31st and that the plane’s capacity is about 300 passengers.

Hassan added that these flights are in addition to the regular daily flights operated by the company to Dubai, except for Sunday, indicating that on some days two flights will be operated on the same day.

Dubai Police fines 2771 Vehicles for Causing Noise and Disturbance

The Dubai Police has fined 2771 vehicles over the past 11 months for violating traffic laws such as heavily modifying cars with power boosters to increase the engine speed and causing nuisance and disturbance to residents.

Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, Director of the General Department of Traffic Police, said the traffic campaigns, which were launched in coordination with Bur Dubai and Deira Police Stations, are aimed at ensuring road security and reducing the number of traffic injuries and related deaths, as well as protecting properties and holding violators accountable for their reckless actions.

Brig. Al Mazroui indicated that March recorded the highest number of violations (456), followed by February (289), April (276), January (271), May (270), November (241), October (223), June (197), August & September (192), and July (164).

The General Department of Traffic Police director stressed that road safety is everyone’s responsibility. “Together, we must unify efforts and maintain the safety and security of our roads”, he urged.

Brig. Al Mazroui urged parents to advise their children as modified vehicle accidents could be deadly and result in the deaths of innocent people and other road users.

“It is very likely that drivers lose control when operating excessively modified cars, especially if engine modifications were made in a way that does not match the type of vehicle or roads,” he concluded.

Dubai Maritime City Authority holds the First Forum for Shipping Agents

DUBAI, As part of its efforts to develop the leisure marine tourism sector in Dubai, the Dubai Maritime City Authority at the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation held the first forum for shipping agents at the authority’s headquarters in Port Rashid area in Dubai.

While presiding the meeting, Sheikh Saeed bin Ahmed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime City Authority, confirmed that in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Council for Border Crossing Points Security, to ensure the provision of quality services and facilities to visiting foreign marine crafts, the DMCA continues its unremitting efforts to develop the recreational marine sector and enhance Dubai’s advanced and competitive position as one of the preferred destinations for yacht owners, charterers and travelers on cruise ships, which contributes to the development of the maritime sector, especially with the start of the marine tourism season in Dubai, and ensures the provision of the infrastructure to upgrade the marine sector in it.

The Executive Director of the Dubai Maritime City Authority indicated the authority’s keenness to strengthen strategic partnership and cooperation relations with various stakeholders in order to identify and advance the challenges facing the maritime sector in order to meet and exceed their aspirations, and consolidate Dubai’s position as a world-class maritime centre.

The meeting’s agenda included a review of the authority’s efforts to overcome the challenges facing visiting foreign marine crafts, which were supported by a package of facilities provided to them in the Emirate of Dubai, in cooperation with the concerned authorities and entities, including allowing cruise ships and visiting foreign yachts to dock for long periods of up to 6 months in the waters of Dubai, allowing short berthing at marinas and marine clubs, exemption from customs duties and value-added tax, and other facilities.

During the meeting, the procedures for issuing sailing permits for the visiting foreign recreational marine vehicle, whether shipped or heading to Dubai by sailing, were discussed, besides previewing the authority’s future plans aimed at strengthening the recreational maritime sector in the emirate.

The meeting concluded with a discussion of ways to support the sector and a review of the aspirations of shipping agents to ensure the development of tourist destinations, ports, marinas, facilities, and yacht services in the emirate.
