The AED140 million Roman-style amphitheatre, covering an area of 7,238 square metres, can accommodate up to 4,500 people.
The amphitheatre building is the official venue for the Sharjah Capital of Islamic Culture (SICC) 2014 celebrations and other international cultural and art events.
The opening ceremony was attended by H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, Crown Prince of Umm Al Qaiwain, H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development along with a number of Sheikhs and Sheikhas.
Also present were a number of U.A.E.’s Ministers, Culture Ministers in Arab and Islamic countries and Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri, Director-General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, ISESCO, members of Sharjah Executive Council and media representatives along with a number of elite intellectuals, writers and critics.
