DUBAI -- Saqr bin Ghobash Saeed Ghobash, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, has met with Nurul Islam, Bangladeshi Minister of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment to discuss cooperation developments between the two friendly countries.
The ministers spoke on various issues, including the labour sector's policy and legislation in both the UAE and Bangladesh.
Saqr Ghobash highlighted that the UAE is keen to move forward and enhance working relationships by applying systematic policies and procedures during the employment process, such that mutual commitments between the employer and employee on the rights and duties agreed upon under the employment contract, and legal mechanisms are in place.
During the meeting, Mr. Ghobash discussed a number of initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation to protect labour rights. The most important of these is the Wages Protection System, WPS, which ensures that a worker receives their wages on time, as well as implementing a set of standards and requirements that ensure adequate housing is provided by the employer, among other initiatives and policies.
Nurul Islam said that Bangladesh had developed a number of systems that will regulate the provision of labour to receiving countries, ensuring that individuals are trained and qualified before embarking on employment opportunities. The minister highlighted that several training centres for workers have been established in Bangladesh that provide internationally accredited courses.
He added that the UAE has an attractive labour market, as it has placed advanced legislation that ensures the protection and safety of worker rights.
The meeting was attended by a number of ministry officials and dignitaries.
