SEDD completes 145,523 Digital Transaction

SHARJAH, Sharjah Economic Development Department “SEDD” revealed that 145523 digital transactions were completed during the first half of 2021, achieving a growth of 104 percent in terms of the total number of completed transactions compared to 2020.

The Department explained that this achievement was the result of the successful completion of the digital transformation system for all the services provided by it, which were previously accomplished.

Also, it was a continuation of the modernisation and development of its digital services in a systematic and thoughtful manner, which resulted in a major shift in performance and a high demand for benefiting from digital services.

In addition, SEDD digital transformation of resulted in the simplicity and flexibility in providing and making all its digital services available to the public through multiple platforms. Such thing came in line with the vision of the wise leadership and in support of the national trend towards digitizing government services.

Also, it seeks to consolidate Sharjah’s position as one of the best agencies in providing services according to the highest standards, in a manner that achieves the satisfaction and happiness of customers and raises the quality of life for citizens and residents in the emirate.

According to SEDD data, the percentage of using the digital transformation platform has grown to 96 compared to the first half of last year, when the percentage of use did not exceed 76, while the number of smart investor transactions out of the total transactions completed in the first half of the same year increased by 79 percent.

Sultan Abdullah bin Hadda Al Suwaidi, SEDD Chairman, stressed that this large number of digital transactions reflects the extent of the Department’s keenness to develop the level of its services provided to the public, investors and partners, by converting them to the digital mode, which facilitates procedures, reduces time and reduces waste of resources. It was done through the provision of innovative, easy and fast government services that encourage citizens and residents to benefit from them. This emphasises the efficiency, durability and quality of the technical systems of the Department and the continuous improvement processes pursued by it.

He added: “We have a clear strategy for the coming years based on the implementation of many innovative projects that contribute to the completion of our various transactions with ease, thanks to the great progress made by the Department over the past years in developing and using advanced technical systems and applications”.

He pointed out that the digital transformation in SEDD services, which hit 100 percent, and its investment over the past years in establishing an advanced digital infrastructure contributed to maintaining the progress of business and services during the last period, which enabled the Department to complete all transactions digitally and through service centres.

He stressed that the Department’s strategic objective is to achieve a comprehensive development plan that promotes economic development in Sharjah, by developing services to match the highest international quality standards in terms of speed of delivery and access to dealers in the economic sector and investors in the emirate, and striving to complete transactions with ease.

From his side, Ali Al Naqbi, Deputy Director of IT Department at SEDD, indicated that the number of visits to SEDD digital platforms continued to rise during the first half of this year compared to previous years, reaching 4,738211 visits. In addition, he stated that the number of in-person transactions decreased, which directly proves the durability, strength and quality of the digital services provided.

Al Naqbi pointed out that SEDD has provided multiple and diverse channels for the sustainability of its business, including digital services on portals and smart phones. These channels aimed to cover all aspects and areas of the Department’s procedural work, so the customer does not need to visit it, as the growth rate reached 113 percent for the digital transactions completed in the first half of the year.

Moreover, Al Naqbi added that implementing transactions digitally has contributed to achieving many important positive effects on various economic, social, environmental and operational aspects, whether by achieving high efficiency in completing customer requests by reducing the time it takes to obtain services, or by facilitating service access, which is what reflected in the level of productivity.

He illustrated that the Department was able to raiser the percentage of using digital platforms to 96 during 2021 first half. In addition, SEDD continued during the last period to improve and develop the user experience and facilitate the customer’s journey. Meanwhile, it works to adopt the environment friendly process that requires converting all paper transactions into digital transactions.

Dubai Police reminds parents about dangers of leaving children in hot vehicles

DUBAI, The Dubai Police General Command has issued an advisory to parents and motorists on the deadly consequences of leaving children inside vehicles especially during hot weather, when temperatures can reach 70 C in parked vehicles.

At the beginning of the summer season, the Force launched a campaign to emphasise on the seriousness of such irresponsible deed and to deliver an awareness message under the slogan “Never Leave a Child Alone in a Vehicle”.

Butti Al Falasi, Director of the Security Awareness Department at Dubai Police, confirmed that Dubai Police works tirelessly to analyse and tackle all safety and security related issues all year round.

“We’ve spotted in several occasions parental negligence that thoughtlessly leave children unattended inside cars either by mistake or to run errands unaware of the grave danger,” “Over the last seven months, we’ve rescued 39 children who were left in locked vehicles,” Al Falasi added.

Leaving children inside vehicles could lead to suffocation, loss of consciousness and even death because of extreme heat and lack of oxygen.

150% increase in community platform participants: Hessa Buhumaid

DUBAI, Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, lauded the efforts of the summer social platform team and partners, which recently concluded its second session by achieving an increase in the number of participants.

The platform attracted (14,031) participants in five main themes, an increase of nearly (150%) compared to the numbers collected by the platform during the first session of last summer, which reached (5,688) participants in (6) interactive themes.

This was announced by during her speech at the honoring ceremony of the team, partners, supporters, trainers and volunteers at the summer social platform organized by the Ministry in recognition of the role of these groups and authorities for the platform’s remarkable success concluded late August.

Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid said: “Together, we have excelled in achieving an active participation of (14,031) people in this year’s theme “Our Summer Recovering who participated in (37) interactive workshops in (5) main themes (agricultural hub, culture and entertainment hub, family hub, health and sports hub, professional development hub), in addition to the Toastmasters “Presentation Skills” program, bringing together (25) trainee students in vocational development programs, which contributed to a significant increase in the attraction of students, youth, children and families across the society.”

The Minister of Community Development appreciated the role played by the platform partners and the achievements achieved by both children and families in taking responsibility for attending training, education, rehabilitation, pleasure and practice in order to achieve the required results throughout the summer vacation. She also lauded the positive impact of the cooperation between the Ministry and a number of ministries, local authorities and the private sector based on the ministry’s vision to provide broad, targeted and sustainable partnerships for a “stable family and a cohesive society”.

She added that the summer social platform initiatives target all family members, parents, children and youth, senior citizens and people of determination through field or virtual activities. This year came in the light of our recovery phase to overcome COVID-19 Pandemic usefully and safely at the same time. The widespread and increasing participation in its various programs and themes ensure the best investment of children’s leisure time during the summer vacation period. The platform also reflects the participation of family members in various programs and events suitable for all ages thereby enhancing social development efforts based on creativity, innovation and sustainability.

The number of participations in the summer social platform in its second session reached (14,031) people aged 6 to 60 years divided as: (3,486) in agricultural hub, (2,943) in culture and entertainment hub, (4,017) in family hub, (2,442) health and sports hub and finally (1,143) people enrolled in professional development hub programs.

The summer social platform is the result of joint cooperation between the ministry and nine entities in the UAE representing ministries, local government authorities and the private sector, where dozens of programs and initiatives have been implemented through effective partnerships with a number of entities including: Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Culture and Youth, Emirates Foundation, Executive Council of the Government of Ajman, Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Program for Excellence and Community Intelligence.

The platform’s activities focused on a series of quality and joint effort projects, ensuring that leisure time is invested positively during the summer vacation period, and stimulating family participation in programs and events in an atmosphere of happiness and positivity, where summer platform programs address all categories and allow each family to choose from a range of projects and initiatives.

DEWA inaugurates world’s first mosque to receive LEED platinum rating for green buildings

DUBAI, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has inaugurated the world’s first mosque to receive the platinum rating for green buildings by the Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED v4) from the US Green Buildings Council (USGBC) with 83 points.

The mosque in Hatta can accommodate more than 600 worshippers on an area of 1,050 square metres according to the highest environmental sustainability standards.

“In all our projects and initiatives, we strive to follow the highest sustainability and efficiency standards. This is in accordance with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, which outlines an integrated roadmap for urban development based on sustainable development to make Dubai the world’s best place to live. This also helps achieve DEWA’s vision to become a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation. DEWA works to promote the concept of zero energy buildings which supports sustainable development, economic growth without harming the environment and its resources,” said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“Inaugurating the world’s first mosque to receive the platinum rating for green buildings by the Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design in Hatta, is part of DEWA’s efforts to support the comprehensive and sustainable development plan of Hatta and meet the needs of its social, economic and environmental development,” added Al Tayer.

“The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department is committed to protecting the environment. This supports the UAE’s efforts in combating climate change. The mosque, the first of its kind in the world, is a pioneering example for adopting best sustainability practices and preserving natural resources for a better environmental future. Receiving the LEED Platinum certification confirms that the mosque has met all international sustainability standards and achieved high levels of efficiency,” said Dr. Hamad Al Sheikh Ahmed Al Shaibani, Director General of the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai.

“IACAD undertakes a globally-orientated mission focused on promoting the values of moderate Islam, developing charitable work and building mosques in accordance with international best practices. The inauguration of the mosque reflects the distinguished initiatives that prioritise sustainable practices and human health,” added Al Shaibani.

The mosque comprises a 25-metre-high minaret, car and motor bicycle parking, facilities for People of Determination, and a green charger station. The mosque conserves around 26.5 percent of energy and 55 percent of water. Solar photovoltaic panels are currently being installed and a water treatment unit to reuse the water for irrigation and cleaning. DEWA followed the highest international standards to ensure the air quality by using a highly efficient device for air purification to provide a sustainable and healthy environment inside the mosque, with recycled materials used for construction.

Gargash, UK Minister of State for South Asia and Commonwealth review bilateral relations

DUBAI, Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, the Diplomatic Advisor to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and British Minister of State for South Asia and Commonwealth, Lord Tariq Mahmood Ahmad, have reviewed the prospects of cementing the UAE-UK ties across various fronts.

This came as Dr Gargash today received Lord Tariq who expressed appreciation of the UAE’s significant efforts made recently to facilitate the swift evacuation of UK citizens and other foreign nationals from Afghanistan.

The meeting occasioned a review of the close bonds between the two friendly nations in addition to an array of regional and international issues of interest.

Dubai FDI supports expansion by Amazon Web Services in UAE

DUBAI, The Dubai Investment Development Agency (Dubai FDI), the investment promotion agency of Dubai Economy, has welcomed the announcement by Amazon Web Services (AWS) of its plans to open data centres in the UAE in the first half of 2022. The new AWS Middle East (UAE) Region will consist of three Availability Zones and become AWS’s second region in the Middle East.

The announcement builds on the momentum of cloud adoption in the Middle East by enabling customers to run applications and store data locally. This will give organizations access to advanced cloud services and technologies to drive innovation including computing, storage, networking, database, analytics, machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), mobile services, and more. The development is supported by the UAE’s focus on promoting technology innovation, which makes it a prestigious global hub for entrepreneurs, e-governments, and multinational businesses.

Fahad Al Gergawi, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai FDI, said: “Our strategic location facilitates digital communication around the world in terms of speed, security, and infrastructure readiness. AWS’s expansion in the UAE is testimony to our positive growth environment and ability to attract strategic investment, and comes as part of a fruitful and continuous collaboration over the years.
