Mansoor bin Mohammed crowns winners of volleyball championship at NAS Sports Tournament

DUBAI, H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, crowned the Emperor team, the winner of the volleyball championship at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament 2022.

Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, and organised by the Dubai Sports Council, the NAS Sports Tournament has been one of the top sporting events held during the Holy Month of Ramadan since 2013. His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed attended the final day of the largest sports tournament of its kind in the country.

Held annually, the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament this year featured competitions in eight different sporting disciplines, including volleyball, padel, wheelchair basketball, running, cycling, archery, Spartan Nas Night Race, and jiu-jitsu. The event, which started on 2nd April, ran for 17 days.

Sheikh Mansoor congratulated the Emperor team on winning the volleyball title at the Tournament. He also praised Al Jawareh, who finished as runners-up in the contest that saw a high level of competition and high-octane matches. The Tournament saw leading players joining amateurs and professionals to battle for top honours in various sporting disciplines .

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council. In line with the vision of His Highness, Dubai Sports Council strives to ensure that the participation remains open to everyone, from amateurs to professionals of various age groups and nationalities, providing opportunities for everyone.”

Dubai Sports Council’s efforts enabled more than 5,000 amateur and professional athletes to participate in the ninth edition of the NAS Sports Tournament. While the event featured intense sporting contests, we believe everyone who participated in the Tournament is a winner,” he added.

Sheikha Shamsa bint Hasher Al Maktoum, Awad Saghir Al Ketbi, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al Marri, Director-General of Dubai’s General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, and a number of sports and government officials attended the tournament’s final day.

Sheikh Mansoor also honoured the sponsors in the presence of Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council and Chairman of the Organising Committee for the session.

Moreover, Sheikh Mansoor honoured the international referees of the match, including Ismail Ibrahim, Muhammad Al Dawla, and Ali Hamid. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed also honoured the players who won individual titles. Those who received the awards included Majid Khamis Al-Mazmi from the Fahud Zabeel team, who won the title of best Emirati player, and Lislon Costa from the Al Jawareh team, who won the award for best defender.

Fohood Zabeel’s Arseny Sarli was adjudged the best hitter, while David Saita of the Emperor team was named the best setter. Seyed Mousavi of the Emperor team received the award for the best blocker. The Emperor team’s Branamir Karsimirov was named the best all-around player in the tournament.

The Emperor team won the final volleyball match, prevailing over Al Jaraweh 25-22, 25-20, 25-15. The competition witnessed the participation of 150 players from 20 different nationalities.

The final match brought the curtains down on the ninth edition of the Nas Al Sheba Sports Tournament 2022.

Real non-oil GDP grew by 7.8% in Q4 2021: CBUAE

ABU DHABI, The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) reported that real non-oil GDP grew by some 7.8 percent in the fourth quarter of 2021, which it attributed to the easing of business closures and the decline in restrictions on international travel.

It also highlighted a 9.3 percent annual increase in Emirati oil production during the same period, in line with a related OPEC+ agreement.

In addition, according to the Central Bank’s quarterly economic report, the occupancy rate of hotels in Dubai during the fourth quarter of 2021 was 82 percent, compared to 63 percent and 80.6 percent during the same period in 2020 and 2019 respectively.

The report also addressed local and international economic and monetary developments and stock markets, and highlighted that the UAE is continuing to lead the efforts aimed at addressing the COVID-19 pandemic, which is positively reflected in its pace of recovery.

At the end of the fourth quarter of 2021, 92 percent of those eligible were fully vaccinated, and 100 percent have received at least one dose of the vaccine, the report stated, while referring to a 9.3 percent year-on-year increase in oil production, in line with the OPEC+ agreement.

The Central Bank estimated a total real GDP growth of 2.3 percent in 2021, and for 2022 it is maintaining its forecast for an aggregate real GDP growth of 4.2 percent, with non-oil real GDP increasing by 3.9 percent and real oil GDP by 5.0 percent.

Global Airport Leaders Forum 2022 to highlight resurging business landscape

DUBAI, The 9th edition of the Global Airport Leaders Forum (GALF), scheduled to take place in Dubai from May 17 to 19 alongside The Airport Show and will focus on the resurging business landscape with both international and domestic traffic volume recovering faster.

The Airports Council International (ACI), representing 1950 airports in 185 countries, says Dubai International Airport, the world’s number one airport for international travellers, is due to receive 55.1 million passengers in 2022.

Along with Airport Security Middle East, ATC Forum and Women in Aviation Middle East Forum as co-located events of the 21st edition of Airport Show, the GALF-2022 will see renowned experts and officials talking about a variety of topics of crucial importance in four sessions at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) on Airport Innovation and Development, Air Traffic Management (ATM), Airport Sustainability and Airport Security.

DFM welcomes HSBC as General Clearing Member

DUBAI, Dubai Financial Market (DFM) announced today that HSBC has become the first international General Clearing Member (GCM) to join the market, enabling the bank to provide clearing and settlement services to its customers worldwide and to other DFM trading members.

The introduction of GCM service on DFM by HSBC is part of a wider collaboration programme between the two entities aimed at enhancing market infrastructure and connectivity with international and institutional investors.

HSBC is expected to offer its GCM service on DFM Equity Market starting in May. It is also looking at the opportunity to offer equities futures clearing.

Brokerage firms can operate as a trading and clearing member or as a trading member only. The latter offers efficient collateral management and higher flexibility of managing collateral through the use of services of a GCM to clear and settle trades.
