UAE announces 244 new COVID-19 cases, 361 recoveries, no deaths in last 24 hours

ABU DHABI, The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) announced that it conducted 277,385 additional COVID-19 tests over the past 24 hours, using state-of-the-art medical testing equipment.

In a statement, the Ministry stressed its aim to continue expanding the scope of testing nationwide to facilitate the early detection of coronavirus cases and carry out the necessary treatment. As part of its intensified testing campaign, MoHAP announced 244 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of recorded cases in the UAE to 897,136.

According to the Ministry, the infected individuals are from various nationalities, are in a stable condition, and receiving the necessary care.

The Ministry added that no COVID-19-related deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours, keeping the total number of deaths in the country at 2,302.

MoHAP also noted that an additional 361 individuals had fully recovered from COVID-19, bringing the total number of recoveries to 879,787.

Maktoum bin Mohammed approves DIFC Courts Strategic Work Plan 2022- 2024

DUBAI, H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and President of the Dubai International Financial Centre has approved the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts Strategic Work Plan 2022- 2024.

Encapsulated within a four-pillar mandate, the new three-year plan outlines an ambitious drive for full digital transformation through advanced technologies to increase the efficiency of dispute resolution. A new hyperconnected judicial network will also be developed alongside cutting-edge legal procedures for enhanced accessibility to court services.

H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum stressed that: “The DIFC Courts has strived to set industry firsts, offering a distinctively international and experienced court service proposition, able to deal with the most complex transnational disputes. The maturity of its service mandate and the rapid pace at which this service efficiency has evolved, highlights the integral role the DIFC Courts has in supporting Dubai and the DIFC’s status as a global business hub by engendering trust, confidence, and protecting business continuity”.

Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum added that: “Today, we approved the new Strategic Work Plan serves to further instill confidence that the DIFC Courts will forge ahead to shape the new dynamics of global dispute resolution. The Strategic Work Plan built to actively support DIFC strategic objectives and to launch a new era of legal technological infrastructure that meet current requirements”.

Consisting of 28 projects, the new Plan supports DIFC Courts important role in reinforcing Dubai’s status as a global business hub by engendering trust, confidence, and protecting business continuity. Responding to today’s dynamic fast-evolving world, definable projects and initiatives within the new plan are custom built to elevate judicial excellence; service excellence; connectivity; and innovation.

As a part of the Strategic Work Plan, a new international court specialised in digital economy will be launched. A new centre for Will Deposit will be established in addition to a comprehensive Digital Will Management System and an advanced CRM. The DIFC Courts will also offer multi-lingual consultancy services.

The DIFC Courts Strategic Work Plan adopts end-to-end digital technology, ensuring court systems are smart, user-friendly and agile enough to keep pace with global commerce. Innovative implementations will bridge barriers of language, borders, jurisdiction and currency. AI will reduce clerical burdens, help streamline the case review methodology, create a realistic virtual presence, remove document duplications, and unlock time to take on significantly more complex tasks.

In 2021, the DIFC Courts confirmed the launch of a new Division. The international Digital Economy Court is aimed at simplifying the settlement process of complex civil and commercial disputes related to the digital economy, reviewing national and international claims related to current and emerging technologies, including big data, blockchain, cryptocurrencies, artificial intelligence, and cloud services.

The DIFC Courts is not only maintaining all services, but is simultaneously increasing operational efficiency, substantially expanding digital Orders & Judgments, as well as over 95% of hearings conducted remotely.

The DIFC Courts also confirmed its status as the first paperless Court in the region in 2021, with 100% of internal processes and customer-facing services now operating fully digital.

Future research from the DIFC Courts will combine expertise and resources to investigate handling disputes arising out of private and public blockchains, with regulation and contractual terms encoded within the smart contract. Implications for cross-border data flows, digital and data governance, and ensuring protection and security of information for the business relationships that help drive the digital economy, are now being reviewed with accelerated intent.

Sharjah Ruler issues Emiri Decree appointing head of Department of Agriculture and Livestock Resources

SHARJAH, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, issued Emiri Decree No. (30) for 2022, regarding the appointment of a head of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock Resources (DALR) in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The decree stipulated appointing His Excellency Dr. Khalifa Musabah bin Ahmed Al Tunaiji, as Head of the Department of Agriculture and Livestock Resources in the Emirate of Sharjah.

Payment of AED340 million to social assistance recipients completed: Minister of Community Development

DUBAI, Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development, has announced the completion of the disbursement of AED340 million ordered by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for the recipients of social assistance across the country, on the occasion of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The minister valued the noble gesture of H.H. Sheikh Mohamed, which comes in addition to the monthly aid provided to the beneficiaries as part of the social assistance provided to all eligible categories across the nation.

“The UAE leadership’s directives translate our endeavors to provide all forms of support and empowerment to ensure a decent life for the beneficiaries and all segments of society,” she said.

Buhumaid explained that the financial support has been transferred in full to their beneficiaries within three working days, in coordination with all competent local authorities and according to the provisions envisaged by the Federal Law on social assistance.

ADNOC donates AED3 million to 1Billion Meals Initiative

DUBAI, The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has announced a donation of AED3 million to the 1 Billion Meals initiative, the region’s largest of its kind, from the UAE to the world to provide food support to the underprivileged and undernourished in less fortunate communities across 50 countries.

ADNOC’s donation, equivalent to three million meals, is a significant addition to those of several individuals and organizations to alleviate global hunger and battle malnutrition, which threaten 800 million people worldwide and take the lives of 25,000 people per day.

The influx of donations, reflecting the UAE society’s keenness on making a signification contribution to global humanitarian causes, play a key role in providing a food safety net for the less fortunate, especially more vulnerable groups such as children, refugees, displaced persons and victims of disasters and crises.
