SCI organises ‘Biggest Group Iftar in Nepal’ initiative

SHARJAH, The Sharjah Charity International (SCI) organised the biggest group iftar initiative in the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal on Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, which falls on the 19th of the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The initiative came under the auspices of the UAE Embassy in Nepal and in the presence of Saeed Hamdan Al Naqbi, the UAE ambassador to Nepal, and Mohamed Hamdan Al Zari, Head of the Projects and Aid Sector, Head of the SCI’s Delegation, and the volunteer of the member Saeed Mubarak Al Mashgoni.

Mohamed Hamdan Al Zari stated that the initiative coincides with the UAE’s celebration of Zayed Humanitarian Work Day in remembrance to the Founding Father, late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Al Zari confirmed that the initiative included rice, meat, dates, fruits, cold drinks and water, highlighting that the initiative had a good impact among the beneficiaries, as they rejoiced in thanks and praise to the donors and SCI.

EPA prepares for new chapter after approving work plan of 2022

SHARJAH, Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) has held its Ordinary General Assembly in the presence of Ministry of Community Development representatives to approve its draft budget and work-plan of 2022, and release its end-of-year 2021 report.

This meeting comes as part of EPA’s ongoing mission to advance its offerings and services to its members.

A representative from the Ministry announced that the quorum for the General Assembly meeting had been achieved, and the meeting began with a welcome speech by Ali Obaid bin Hatem, President of EPA.

The meeting highlighted the EPA’s achievements and activities in 2021, including workshops, sessions, participation in local and international book fairs, events, and the launching of the Publishers Training Program.

The association’s general assembly voted on and approved amendments to its statute to improve and advance its operations, including: three clauses related to regulations and procedures for memberships in local, regional, and international organizations and federations.

On this occasion, Ali Obaid bin Hatem, President of EPA, commented: “The association’s work and programme plan for 2022, which was finalised at the General Assembly, is focused on harnessing (EPA)’s resources to support our members and advance the sustainability and growth of the local publishing sector in general, with emphasis on book distribution and marketing.”

He added: “Our operations have unwavering support, in particular the patronage and generosity of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, including his latest directive to establish a distribution company operating under EPA to enable local publishers to extend their outreach towards regional and international markets.”

Evacuation drill carried out in main building of ADJD

ABU DHABI, The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has carried out a successful partial evacuation drill of its main building, as part of the approved plan for the practical implementation of emergency building evacuation measures for 2022, achieved through coordination between the Integrated Systems and Environmental Protection Section, the Security and Transport Section of the Administrative Support Sector and the facility management company “Khidmah”.

The teams in charge of the exit drill managed to partially evacuate the building in 3 minutes and 40 seconds, which is an emergency response record involving some 105 people present in the designated area for the exercise, given the rapid action of the personnel in charge and of the employees who, as soon as the alarm bell was sounded, headed for the emergency exits and gathered at the assembly points.

This exercise is part of a series of practical drills to assess the degree of preparedness to deal with emergencies in the event of fire, and to raise the level of readiness, so as to strengthen the efforts to protect people and ensure their safety, by raising awareness of the necessary measures that must be taken in such circumstances in accordance with the safety and prevention requirements and in application of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Management System.

UAE leaders congratulate Macron on re-election win

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent a cable of congratulations to Emmanuel Macron, on his re-election win as President of France.

His Highness Sheikh Khalifa wished the French President continued success in achieving more progress and prosperity for the people of France, stressing the UAE’s keenness to continue developing relations between the two countries in various fields for the common good and interest of their peoples.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, sent two similar messages of congratulations to Macron.

Deliveroo provides users with options to donate to 1Billion Meals Initiative

DUBAI, Food delivery company Deliveroo announced its participation in the 1 Billion Meals initiative, the largest of its kind in the region, to provide food support to the underprivileged and the undernourished by enabling users of its smart application to donate the value of meals to support those in need in 50 countries around the world.

As a leading food delivery service in the UAE, Deliveroo has designed simple and easy steps that allow the user to donate AED10, AED50, AED100, AED300 or AED500 to help provide meals to the needy within the 1 Billion Meals initiative, which is organised by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) to support vulnerable groups, including children, refugees, displaced people, and those affected by crises and natural disasters. The value of these contributions will secure the basic ingredients required to provide nutritious meals to the less fortunate individuals and families around the world.
