Fourth UAE AI Summer Camp opens for registrations

DUBAI, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Teleworking Applications, has announced that registration for the fourth UAE AI Summer Camp is now open until the beginning of August.

The Office of the Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, will organise the AI Camp 4.0 in partnership the National Programme of Artificial Intelligence, and in cooperation with national entities and major international companies specialised in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and programming areas.

Al Olama stated that the UAE AI Summer Camp, in its fourth year, builds on the success story of its previous versions held over the past few years, and supports efforts in consolidating the idea of adopting artificial intelligence in all aspects in the community.

He added that enhancing future skills at a young age is essential to utilise AI applications for future generations. These skills will encourage youth to increase their creativity to build an advanced digital infrastructure in the UAE and develop plans to ensure sustainability in digital development. AI Summer Camp 4.0 provides an opportunity to design innovative solutions and learn about future thinking mechanisms, and will enhance the UAE’s efforts in preparing a well-educated generation capable of leading the future of these vital sectors.

This year’s version will hold interactive workshops, with leading international companies and government entities specialised in advanced technology, will provide participants with essential future skills related to artificial intelligence and Metaverse programming, one of the top languages of tomorrow.

Companies participating include Microsoft, Huawei, Careem, Dell, Zoom, Accenture, Le Wagon, Jeel Code, IBM, TODA, NobleProg, M-Content, the Data Tech Labs, as well as Dubai Municipality, Dubai Future Labs and OliOli.

AI Summer Camp 4.0 will empower school and university students of all ages with AI skills required in order for them to participate fully in building better future. It encourages them to take comprehensive benefits from experiences and knowledge, gained through virtual workshops and interactive sessions, to develop innovative solutions. Registrations for the workshops may be easily accessed on the camp website.

The activities of the AI Summer Camp 4.0 focus on various topics to provide students with the highest artificial intelligence skills, future skills, advanced technology and programming sciences.

The camp takes three main tracks; the first focuses on children between 6 to 12 years to enhance their future skills and refine their academic knowledge in training workshops. The second track is designed for those interested in digital skills, regardless of their educational and practical background. The advanced track provides programming sciences, auditing, and other advanced topics specialised in artificial intelligence.

Workshops will focus on various technological areas, including Metaverse and the future, sustainability in using blockchain technologies and its applications in real life, analysis of AI and the business revolution, AI innovation in digital cities, and cybersecurity for children, youth and website developers. AI Summer Camp 4.0 will also offer interactive workshops to create video games.

The previous three years of the UAE AI summer camp saw broad participation from youth and school students, with more than 15,000 students from different academic levels participating in workshops to share and communicate best practice in advanced technology and AI.

Four-day Eid Al Adha holidays announced for private sector

DUBAI, The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has announced that the paid holiday of Eid Al Adha for the private sector will start on 9th Dhu al-Hijjah (Day of Arafat), corresponding Friday, 8th July, and will end on Monday, 11th July.

This comes in implementation of the Cabinet decision regarding official holidays approved for the government and private sectors for the years 2021 and 2022.

UAE President grants Austrian Ambassador the Medal of Independence of the First Order

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan granted Andreas Liebmann, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to the UAE, the Medal of Independence of the First Order, in appreciation of his efforts during his tenure in the country, which contributed to the development of bilateral relations in many fields.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, awarded Liebmann the Medal during a meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi.

Al Hashemy wished the ambassador success in his work, praising his role in strengthening the distinguished relations between the UAE and Austria in all fields.

For his part, Andreas Liebmann expressed his deep appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, praising his leadership, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, underscoring the UAE’s achievements during the past 50 years, which reflect the leadership’s ambition to continuously raise the UAE’s status in all fields.

Liebmann concluded by thanking all government entities in the country for their cooperation, which contributed to the success of his mission in reinforcing ties between the two countries.

UAE President issues federal decree closing 3rd ordinary session of FNC’s 17th legislative chapter

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued Federal Decree No.74 for 2022 closing the third ordinary session of the Federal National Council’s (FNC) 17th legislative chapter.

Article I of the decree stipulates the closing of the third ordinary session on 29th June, 2022, noting that Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the FNC, is required to implement the decree, which will be published in the official gazette.

In his speech during the 16th and final session of the FNC’s 17th chapter, Ghobash thanked the UAE’s leadership, headed by President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and Rulers of the Emirates, for supporting the FNC, the country’s legislative authority.

During the session, the FNC approved three draft laws, which are a federal draft law on amending Law No.8 for 2019 on medical products and the pharmacy profession, a draft law on cooperatives, and a draft law on commercial agencies.

Ghobash said that the third ordinary session of the FNC’s 17th legislative chapter witnessed the end of the first 50 years of the country’s history, noting the close partnership between national legislative and executive authorities.

During the session, the nation also lost the leader of its empowerment, the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was the best successor to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, he added, stressing that the country unanimously voted for His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed for the role of UAE President.

He then thanked Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention and Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs, and his team, in addition to relevant committees, institutions, bodies and government agencies.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy, delivered a speech on behalf of Al Owais, which stressed that meeting citizens’ needs and interests is one of the country’s priorities.

Dubai’s new strategic engagement programme deepens connections with UK thought leaders in the post-COVID and post-Brexit era

DUBAI, In a strategic engagement programme aimed at reinforcing the resilient relationship between Dubai and the UK in an evolving global environment, the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO) organised a week-long series of events in the UK focused on dialogue, knowledge-sharing and networking between decision makers, influencers and thought leaders from both sides.

The multi-faceted programme was rolled out as part of expanding and deepening Dubai’s network of relationships and stimulating a new dialogue with audiences in the UK in the post-COVID and post-Brexit era. The initiative, which sought to build on the strong historic ties between Dubai and the UK, featured a diverse series of engagements designed to explore collaboration in a range of sectors.

Raising Dubai’s profile among UK stakeholders The Dubai delegation participating in the engagement programme included leaders of government organisations at the forefront of developing its economy and investment, future technologies, financial services, life sciences, healthcare, media and culture and creativity. Leading participants included Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture; Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation; Shamsa Saleh, CEO of Dubai Women Establishment; Dr Amer Sharif, CEO, Dubai Academic Health Corporation, and Chair of Dubai COVID-19 Command and Control Centre; Dr. Alawi Alsheikh-Ali, Deputy Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority; Fahad Al Gergawi, CEO of Dubai FDI; Waleed Saeed Al Awadhi, Chief Operating Officer of the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA); Noora Al Abbar, Director, International Media, GDMO; Huda Al Hashmi, Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs for Strategic Affairs; Mansoor Abulhoul, Ambassador of the UAE to the UK; and Ayesha bin Kalli, Manager, International Office, GDMO.

British participants in the engagement programme included a diverse cross-section of leaders from government, the armed forces, academia, business, culture and media, including some of the stars of the country’s vibrant entrepreneurial landscape. In total, the Dubai delegation connected with over 80 UK stakeholders, including the Secretary of State for Education and the Minister for Science, Research and Innovation. Prominent participants from the business sector included Lord Udny Lister, UK Co-Chair of the UAE-UK Business Council; the Deputy Mayor of London for Business; Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for the Middle East; representatives from the UK Department for International Trade and Chambers of Commerce; as well as private sector leaders such as Brent Hoberman, Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Founders Factory; Baroness Helena Morrissey DBE, founder of the 30% Club for increasing gender diversity in the boardroom; and Warren East CBE, CEO of Rolls Royce.

Focus on three broad sectors With a focus on three cross-cutting and mutually reinforcing sectors: global citizenship; life sciences (covering including medicine, artificial intelligence (AI), fintech, trade, energy and climate); and well-being (including health, lifestyle, tourism, sports, creativity and entertainment), the engagement programme sought to reposition Dubai in the minds of UK policy makers, thought leaders, educators, innovators, investors and consumers.

The programme is expected to contribute to further expanding trade and investment ties between Dubai and the UK. According to ‘Dubai FDI Monitor’, the UK was the leading source country for FDI to Dubai in 2021 with a 27 per cent share of the total. The UK was also the second largest source country for FDI projects in 2021, with 18 percent. The UAE is a key market for Britain’s expanding trade ambitions in the post-Brexit phase, with the UK aiming to double the number of businesses exporting goods and services across the world.

New opportunities in a changing world The engagement programme organised by GDMO kicked off in London with a ‘Sports and Culture Roundtable’ featuring an informal dialogue with leading thinkers, planners and managers from UK’s sports and culture sectors, including Lord Tony Hall CBE, former Director General of the BBC and Skindar Hundal MBE, Director of Arts for The British Council. Discussions focused on strengthening Dubai-UK sports and culture networks, and examining opportunities for strategic cooperation. The Dubai delegation shared the emirate’s strategic vision to consolidate its emergence as a global hub for both culture and sports.

Events held later explored post-Brexit opportunities and areas of common commercial interest. The Dubai delegation had the opportunity to highlight the emirate’s status as one of the world’s most open cities for business and trade in the post-COVID era. The visiting delegation was introduced to current and former senior members of the UK establishment from government, diplomacy, defence and parliament. The programme also featured an informal engagement with British female entrepreneurs and activists during which the delegation shared Dubai’s remarkable gender balance successes.

Shaping the future of technology Another key event of the UK engagement programme was ‘The Techathon’, moderated by Oli Barrett MBE, serial entrepreneur and presenter. The Techathon featured panel discussions featuring tech leaders, emerging tech entrepreneurs, and tech learners from London and Dubai and showcased tech success stories from both Dubai and London.

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of the Dubai Future Foundation, delivered a TED Talk titled ‘Reshape Tomorrow’ in which he set out Dubai’s vision for the future of technology. The delegation shared Dubai’s value proposition as a platform for young and emerging tech entrepreneurs to launch ambitious ventures. The Techathon enabled the Dubai delegation to network with 50 emerging tech innovators from across the UK. The delegation also had a chance to share the success stories of Dubai’s accelerator programmes with Brent Hoberman, the visionary leader of the Founders Factory, one of the world’s leading start-up accelerators and venture studios.

Extending the reach of the engagement programme beyond London, the Dubai delegation visited a number of locations along the Cambridge-Norwich Tech Corridor, home to many of the UK’s world-leading life science research institutions. A series of events at the Norwich Research Park offered Dubai the opportunity to showcase the city’s technology and innovation ecosystems and share its success in curbing the COVID-19 pandemic. The Dubai delegation also visited the University of Oxford, to participate in a communications training workshop that formed part of the Government of Dubai Media Office’s strategic learning platform for senior government leaders.

Following the exceptional success of the engagement programme, the Government of Dubai Media Office seeks to create an annual set of events that will further accelerate knowledge exchange and collaborations, strengthen networks, foster new partnerships and deepen interactions between Dubai and the UK, in a wide range of sectors and spheres of life.

UAE President grants Bulgarian Ambassador Medal of Independence of First Order

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan awarded Bogdan Kolarov, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the UAE, the Medal of Independence of the First Order, on the occasion of the end of his tenure as ambassador to the country.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, presented the medal to Kolarov during a reception at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation to honour his role in enhancing bilateral cooperation.

Moreover, Al Hashemy thanked Kolarov for his efforts, wishing him success in his future endeavors.

For his part, Kolarov affirmed his pride in receiving the medal, which represents the depth of friendship and bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Bulgaria.

He also noted his country’s enduring aspiration for close cooperation to serve the interests of the two countries and peoples.

Kolarov then expressed his deep appreciation to President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, praising his leadership, and to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.

Kolarov concluded by thanking all government entities in the UAE for their collaboration, which contributed to the success of his mission in strengthening relations between the two countries.
