DEWA organises disruptive technology workshops at Sustainable Summer Camp, in collaboration with UAE Ministry of Education

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), in cooperation with the UAE Ministry of Education, organised a series of physical awareness workshops as part of the ‘Sustainable Summer Camp’ held by the Ministry. This is part of DEWA’s social responsibility and its strategy to promote a culture of creativity and innovation among the new generation. More than 250 female students from Mariya AlQubtya High School in Dubai participated in the workshops. The workshops highlighted the latest disruptive technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), 3D printing and robotics, in addition to project management.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, highlighted DEWA’s support for national efforts to empower and train the youth and invest in their potential, time, and skills. This qualifies them to become the next generation of sustainability leaders and to carry on the journey of development in the UAE in all areas. This also helps achieve the UAE Centennial 2071 to make the UAE the world’s leading nation; and the National Innovation Strategy launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make the UAE one of the most innovative countries worldwide.

“We provide the new generation with technical skills, and develop their scientific research, innovation, and creativity. The camp also motivates the new generation to learn science and technologies, and supports DEWA’s objectives to create knowledge and equip them with science and knowledge. This contributes to achieving the UAE’s National Advanced Sciences Agenda 2031, which aims to develop solutions to use advanced sciences in the development and creation of solutions to future challenges. This consolidates the UAE and Dubai’s position on the global innovation map, especially in areas related to the Fourth Industrial Revolution’s technologies. These include AI, drones, energy storage, blockchain, and Internet of Things (IoT), among others,” added Al Tayer.

UAE leaders congratulate Indonesian President on Independence Day

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a congratulatory message to President Joko Widodo of Indonesia on the occasion of his country’s Independence Day, which is marked on 17th August.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, has also dispatched similar congratulatory messages to the Indonesian President.

Hamdan bin Mohammed amends Resolution on payment of outstanding public funds by instalments

DUBAI, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, issued Executive Council Resolution No. (53) of 2022 amending Article No. (25) of Executive Council Resolution No. (5) of 2021, which pertains to Executive Regulation of Law No. (1) of 2016 on the Financial Regulations of the Government of Dubai.

Article No. (25) is related to payment of outstanding public funds by instalments, where the head of a government entity or their authorised representative has the authority to allow payment by instalments of any public funds outlined in a list submitted by such entity to the Department of Finance (DoF).

According to the Resolution, payment of public funds by instalments is subject to several conditions, including: Public funds must be due by the date on which the application for payment by instalment is submitted, and the amount of public funds to be paid by instalments must not be less than the minimum amount prescribed by the DoF.

Further, the applicant must prove their inability to pay the total outstanding amounts in one payment. The applicant must also make an initial payment of at least 25 percent of the outstanding amount of public funds requested to be paid by instalments.

According to the amended Resolution, if an applicant cannot make the minimum payment of 25 percent of the outstanding amount before applying for the payment by instalments, the head of the government entity or their authorised representative may reduce the minimum payment after reviewing the reasons behind the request.

The other conditions that remain unchanged are: The instalment period must not exceed five years, or the period in which the public funds are due, whichever is shorter. Instalments must be paid by bank cheques or by providing other guarantees or security as prescribed by the DoF. Any other conditions set by the DoF must be satisfied.

According to the Resolution, an applicant for payment by instalments must, within 15 days from being notified of the decision approving the application for payment by instalments, submit the guarantees or security prescribed by the DoF in respect of the total outstanding amounts.

The guarantees or security must be valid throughout the instalment period, until full payment is made. If an applicant fails to pay the instalments by the prescribed deadlines, the decision approving the application for payment by instalments will be deemed null and void.

The Resolution shall be effective from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette.

Dubai Police receive Bahrain Consul General

DUBAI, Expert Major General Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs at Dubai Police, has recently received Ambassador Saud Hassan Al Nusuf, Consul General of the Kingdom of Bahrain in Dubai, with the aim of exploring ways to enhance cooperation between Dubai Police and the diplomatic mission.

During the meeting, Expert Maj. Gen. Al Mansouri emphasised the keenness of the Dubai Police to provide all of the requirements and needs of all communities and nationalities in Dubai.

He also discussed a number of topics of mutual interest with Al Nusuf, including ways of fostering and boosting mutual relations between both entities.

The meeting was also attended by Brigadier Saeed Al Ayali, Deputy Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation (CID) for Administration and Control Affairs, Colonel Adel Al Joker, Assistant General Director of the General Department for Criminal Investigation Affairs, and several Dubai Police senior officers and employees.

Empower participates in ‘WETEX 2022’ as strategic sponsor

DUBAI, Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, has announced its strategic sponsorship for the 24th edition of the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX), which is set to be held from 27th to 29th September, 2022, in the Dubai Exhibition Centre, at Dubai World Trade Centre.

Emirates NBD launches global call for metaverse start-ups to transform future of banking

DUBAI, Emirates NBD, a leading banking group in the MENAT, has launched a global accelerator programme for metaverse start-ups to enhance customer experience for the new virtual economy.

The initiative comes in partnership with the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Fintech Hive, the largest financial technology hub in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, and powered by technology provider Microsoft.

Marking Emirates NBD’s first play in the metaverse, the accelerator programme positions the bank as a leader in the next phase of banking innovation in alignment with the Dubai Metaverse Strategy aimed at placing Dubai in the top ten metaverse economies of the world, supporting more than 40,000 virtual jobs by 2030 and adding US$4 billion to Dubai’s economy in five years.

With 94 percent of all financial transactions and requests conducted outside the branches, the bank is exploring new technologies in the web 3.0 world to expand its digital footprint and create immersive experiences for our customers.

Emirates NBD is scouting for leading FinTech’s, digital experience start-ups and emerging technology players operating across the metaverse landscape to enhance its immersion in the virtual world across three key areas: building the technology stack to facilitate the shift to 3D, creating virtual worlds to augment the customer experience in the metaverse and enabling a decentralised payment infrastructure for customers to create, monetise, buy and sell digital assets and services.

Over a ten-week acceleration programme, the DIFC Fintech Hive will evaluate and match Emirates NBD with leading start-ups offering unique propositions on the value creation, experience and technology stack required for the metaverse. This will culminate in a demo day at GITEX where the shortlisted participants will pitch their solutions for an opportunity to co-create engaging experiences for our customers in the new reality.
