UAE President, VP condole South Korean President over Itaewon stampede victims

ABU DHABI,President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a cable of condolences to President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea over the Itaewon stampede victims in downtown Seoul, which resulted in scores of deaths.

President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed wished the injured a speedy recovery.

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, also sent a similar cable to President Yoon.

Dubai Customs’ Sea Customs Management completes 4.681m transactions, m

The Sea Customs Centers Management at Dubai Customs completed 4.681million transactions and made 290 seizures in the first nine months (Jan-Sep) 2022.

“The remarkable services and facilities provided by our centers are fully integrated to ensure the achievements of the vital roles Dubai Customs play to facilitate trade and protect society to the fullest,” said Rashid Saif Al-Suwaidi, (Acting) Director of Sea Customs Management. “With this in mind, we work hard to complete customs transactions without any delay using the latest smart AI applications and tools. Continuous development of our human resources is an integral part of our strategic plan to maintain the leading position Dubai Customs has.”

Al Suwaidi added that all inspectors at the sea customs management centers work vigilantly backed by proficiency and experience to protect the society from the hazards of smuggling prohibited and restricted goods into the country.

As part of its vision, Dubai Customs spares no effort to facilitate sea trade to boost the external trade of the emirate and the UAE. The Government Department, a nod to more than 100 years of excellence, is an active player in supporting the vision behind the “Projects of the 50”; a series of developmental and economic projects that aim to accelerate the UAE’s development and transform it into a comprehensive hub in all sectors and establish its status as an ideal destination for talents and investors.

DET concludes its participation in SIAL Paris 2022

DUBAI, Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) strengthened the international presence of the UAE food and beverage sector through the successful participation of its agency, Dubai Industries and Exports, in the 2022 edition of SIAL Paris, the world’s most prominent food and beverage exhibition that attracted over 7,000 exhibitors and hundreds of thousands of visitors from over 200 countries.

The participation of Dubai Industries and Exports in the global event, which was held from 15th to 19th October 2022, was under the umbrella of the UAE pavilion that featured more than 24 local companies. Since 2010, Dubai Industries and Exports has successfully represented and organised the UAE pavilion in the biennial event.

Dubai Industries and Exports shed light on the capabilities and advantages of the export and F&B-manufacturing sectors in Dubai and the UAE and their adoption of the latest international practices and standards. The international event was also an opportunity for DIE to enhance the presence of UAE exports in the European market and position Dubai as a preferred F&B source market for Europe in particular and global markets in general. DIE also sought to connect international buyers and manufacturers with their UAE counterparts to share experiences, opportunities and practices.

According to Dubai Customs data the emirate’s foreign trade for the food sector in 2021 grew 11 percent and reached AED57 billion, compared to AED51.4 billion in 2020. Additionally, exports grew by 11.3 percent (AED10.8 billion compared to AED9.7 billion in 2020), while re-exports went up by 10 percent, to AED7.9 billion from AED7.2 billion.

UAE is exerting huge efforts to position jiu-jitsu on Olympic sports map: Jiu-Jitsu European Union official

ABU DHABI, Michael Korn, President of the German Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Senior Vice-President of the Jiu-Jitsu European Union, affirmed that it is not surprising for the UAE to achieve such excellence in hosting the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship 2022, given the success it had organising previous editions.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Korn said that the UAE is exerting huge efforts to position jiu-jitsu on the Olympic sports map, noting that developments in this regard and plans for improving the sport will be focal points during the congress, which will take place as part of the championship.

The UAE is leading the way in adding jiu-jitsu to the Olympic Games, especially given its status as the most prominent player in the world of jiu-jitsu, as well as home of both the Asian and international jiu-jitsu federations, he explained, adding that all jiu-jitsu federations have confidence about the UAE’s ability to reach that goal.

Korn underscored the UAE’s notable role in hosting world championships and acting as a catalyst to accelerate the world’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and its return to normalcy, which reflected positively on the progress seen across the sport.

He elaborated that it is only natural that the UAE delivers the best programmes for promoting jiu-jitsu and training champions, with all the government support and great attention that the UAE’s wise leadership gives, leading to its rise as a global role model in the field.

‘UAE Codes’ Day hackathons attract 200 participants from 50 schools across the country

DUBAI, The Emirates Schools Establishments (ESE), in cooperation with the National Programme for Coders, organised school hackathons that attracted more than 200 participants from 50 different schools across the UAE, along with coding ambassadors to activate their coding role on the “UAE Codes” Day.

The Hackathons that started on 29th October as part of the “UAE Codes” day, aims to encourage students to innovate new coding solutions, deep thinking to enhance their skills in finding technical solutions and motivate them to learn coding and highlighting the role of coding in the development.

Building capacities and skills of students in digitisation and coding

Sarah Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology and the Chairwomen of the Emirates Schools Establishment, stated that the ESE is keen on enhancing students’ coding skills, through launching various initiatives and educational events which focuses on futuristic technologies, adding that the UAE Government focuses on building the capacities of students and enhances their skills in digitisation and coding.

She said that the Emirates Schools Establishment over the past few years, has participated in countless initiatives and programs that builds the students’ capabilities in technological fields, regarding it one of the best concepts and methodologies in creating the future.

Empowering generations with future skills

Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, emphasised that empowering the next generation with the basics of future language and skills is a main pillar in designing the digital future in the country, adding that providing students with the best opportunities, eco-systems, and skill sets will reflect highly on developing more initiates in the digital field as well as further the growth of the economy, increasing the UAE’s competitiveness globally.

Al Olama said, “Launching the schools Hackathons enhances the competitiveness between different entities in solidifying coding concepts, and promoting digital knowledge, which reflects the willingness of new generations to learn and contribute effectively in developing the coding field and specialise in the future languages.”

The “UAE Codes” day was marked last year, by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, 29th October to be a national day celebrating coding languages and experts, aiming to enhance talented coders develop their coding journey and enhance their readiness to innovate in the future.
