UAE shares up driven by high investors’ sentiments

ABU DHABI, Dubai’s benchmark index (DFMGI) and Abu Dhabi’s FTSE ADX index ended in green Thursday, underpinned by gains in banking, utilities and industry sectors stocks as well high investors’ optimistic sentiments as the listed companies revealed high dividends for 2022.

ADX closed 0.142 percent higher and was second to the Dubai index which rose 0.518 percent up, a two-month high.

The Commercial bank of Dubai led the gains in Dubai after a 8.080 percent hike to close at AED5.350.

In the capital, FAB, the country’s main lender, edged 0.140 percent higher to AED13.820. ADCB likewise fared well, rising 0.120 percent up to close in green at AED8.7.

The National Marine Dredging Company continued to be among the best performers, closing 3.030 percent up at AED32.00.

Dubai Chamber of Commerce launches four business groups within the construction sector

Dubai, UAE – Dubai Chamber of Commerce, one of the three chambers operating under Dubai Chambers, has announced the launch of four business groups within the construction sector namely, building materials business group, cement & ready-mix business group, ceramics business group and paint coating & gypsum business group.

Commenting on the launch of these business groups, Mohammad Ali Rashed Lootah, President & CEO of Dubai Chambers, said: “I am pleased to announce the launch of these business groups as they are important components of Dubai’s vibrant construction sector. There has been a rebound in the construction sector since 2021, driven particularly by residential construction projects. The UAE’s construction market size has been valued at $81 billion in 2021 and it is projected to grow at an average annual growth rate of more than three per cent from 2023 to 2026.”

“Our role at Dubai Chambers is to support the various economic sectors in the emirate including construction. Building materials, cement and ready-mix products, ceramic products as well as paint and gypsum products are all cornerstones of the construction sector. The setting up of these four business groups will encourage transparent conversations between their members, boosting the positive trajectory the construction sector is already in.”

In the period between 2011 and 2021, Dubai’s trade of paint and gypsum reached AED11.6 billion, while the emirate’s trade of ceramic totalled AED35.4 billion, and its trade of cement recorded AED555 million, and building materials trade reached AED247.4 billion.

The four new business groups will focus on promoting the development of construction companies, raising the profile of Dubai’s construction sector in the international business community. By providing a forum that facilitates mutual dialogue between the sector’s stakeholders and government entities, the business groups will tackle industry-level challenges and address policy matters related to the industry, amongst others.

The business groups are part of the chamber’s plans to increase the number of business groups that represent economic sectors and activities in Dubai. The chamber plans to increase the number of economic sectors and activities represented by business groups to 100 by March this year.

DHA holds series of meetings to discuss healthcare partnerships at Arab Health 2023

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, His Excellency Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director General of the Dubai Health Authority held a series of discussions with leading local, regional and international healthcare entities to discuss healthcare partnerships at Arab Health 2023.

His Excellency Al Ketbi met with an Egyptian delegation that included a group of officials, specialists in digital transformation, telemedicine, health tourism, research, studies, training and education.

His Excellency Al Ketbi provided an overview of the Emirate’s health system and highlighted that Dubai is keen to further advance its digital health offerings to ensure the provision of highest quality of specialized and accessible care as well as empower patients to track their health using latest medical technologies.

Al Ketbi also met with senior officials from medtech, health education and training institutes.

He met with delegates of renowned entries such as RRR, Abbott and Zimmer Biomet.

Al Ketbi emphasized that DHA is keen to collaborate across all aspects of healthcare with an aim to provide community members and visitors with the highest quality of patient-centered care.

UAE health authorities launch national drug tracking system ‘Tatmeen’

DUBAI, The UAE has launched the national drug tracking system “Tatmeen”, the first platform in the region to track and trace pharmaceutical products.

The state-of-the-art platform was unveiled by the Ministry of Health and Prevention, the Department of Health-Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai Health Authority during Arab Health 2023. “Tatmeen” provides electronic tracking services for medicines and medical products, and has been developed with technological partners to enhance the reliability of pharmaceutical supply chains.

The platform will enhance control over all medicines in the country by connecting federal and local authorities, factories, distributors, pharmacies, and consumers in a seamless electronic network. The platform will also position the UAE as a recognised global innovator in medicine supply safety.

Ahmed Ali Al Dashti, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Support Services Sector, said that the “Tatmeen” platform is a top-tier national health project developed as part of the Ministry’s digital transformation efforts and in line with the government’s directives to digitise vital services.

The platform incorporates cutting-edge technologies and advanced equipment, offering comprehensive health and drug services to the public, and enabling the tracking of drug products throughout the entire supply chain on a single digital platform.

Ali Al Ajmi, Director of the Digital Health Department at the MoHAP, said that “Tatmeen” is an example of the future-oriented steps taken by health authorities to guarantee the quality and dependability of locally made and imported medicines. The platform adheres to the cutting-edge “GS1” digital sequencing standards, offering greater transparency and trust in the pharmaceutical industry. The platform tracks every step of a pharmaceutical product’s journey, from origin to expiration date, by scanning a serial number and is accessible through its website or smart app, offering convenience and transparency in the pharmaceutical industry.

The “Tatmeen” platform has seen impressive results since its operational launch, including the tracking and tracing of 1.2 million drug packages across the UAE. The platform has a dedicated team of over 3,500 employees working to protect the medical supply chain and adhere to high health and safety standards. The platform has also trained 1,200 individuals and completed 250 training hours over the past two years, attracting 1,760 partners ready to collaborate and utilise its benefits.

The launch of “Tatmeen” in 2020 was a major milestone in the government’s efforts to digitise vital projects and improve health services. The platform uses advanced technology to provide trustworthy information on medicines and ensure the safety of medical and pharmaceutical products.

Dubai Health Authority and DIEZ sign strategic partnership to support the founding of healthcare companies

Dubai, UAE, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority, which seeks to promote cooperation and coordination between the two sides to enhance investment opportunities in Dubai’s healthcare sector, support the formation of healthcare start-ups, and develop innovative technological solutions. This aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 agenda, which was recently announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

The MoU signing took place at an official ceremony on the sidelines of the DHA’s participation in the Arab Health 2023 exhibition and conference. The MoU was signed by His Excellency Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, and His Excellency Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director General of DHA, in the presence of officials and employees from both sides.

As part of the partnership, which aims to enhance the private health sector’s investments in Dubai and consolidating the sector’s role in the ongoing development of health facilities, the two sides will cooperate to prepare an integrated action plan to support the development and establishment of start-up companies, specializing in the healthcare sector. This is in addition to enabling entrepreneurs and companies to benefit from the Startup Incubation Program and other initiatives that support SMEs operating in DIEZ’s free zones. All of which seeks to protect the intellectual property and commercial brands of both existing and new investors.

Additionally, the two sides will develop a special framework to pinpoint the innovation standards of healthcare start-ups in Dubai, and will create a supportive platform to offer expertise, guidance, and research to attract investment opportunities in the field of healthcare technology, all in line with future needs and available capabilities. The partnership will also promote expertise and knowledge exchange in the field of developing business systems for licensing start-ups approved for testing research prototypes in Dubai healthcare facilities.

His Excellency Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director General of DHA, said: “The DHA is committed to building partnerships and strengthening relations with different institutions, agencies, and departments, especially those affiliated with the Dubai government. We believe in the importance and value of joint work and efforts, which directly serve the goals and future aspirations of the Emirate.”
