DEWA is keen to support national, international efforts in environmental sustainability

DUBAI, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has emphasised that DEWA plays a pioneering role in supporting the UAE on achieving the global sustainable development goals and the country’s efforts to be one of the first world nations to achieve Net-Zero.

In his remarks on the occasion of the 26th National Environmental Day 2023, Al Tayer said, “We follow the steps of our late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to protect the environment and preserve biodiversity locally and globally. This direction is also in line with the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to strengthen the position of the UAE on the indicators of achieving the global sustainable development goals, and support its efforts to be one of the first countries in the world to achieve Net-Zero.”

He pointed out that in the Year of Sustainability, the UAE’s preparations are ongoing to host the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP 28) in Dubai Expo City.

“We are intensifying our efforts to consolidate sustainability and the transition towards a green economy, to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100 percent of the energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. Some key projects DEWA is implementing to achieve this goal include the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the largest single-site solar park in the world.”

Al Tayer noted that the solar park will have a production capacity of 5,000 MW by 2030. “We are also working on the green hydrogen project and pumped-storage water technology using clean energy in Hatta. DEWA has also implemented several projects to increase energy efficiency. DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative promotes green and sustainable mobility in Dubai and improves air quality.”

He added that by the end of 2022, the number of Green Charger stations has reached more than 350. “DEWA’s efforts have contributed to reducing carbon emissions in Dubai by 21 percent in 2021, exceeding the target percentage in the Dubai Carbon Abatement Strategy 2021, which aimed to reduce 16 percent of carbon emissions by 2021,” said Al Tayer.

Dubai Police arrest 28 attemting to peddle AED32 mln of narcotics

DUBAI, Dubai Police have thwarted the plans of three drug trafficking gangs and arrested 28 suspects. The traffickers were attempting to peddle 111 kilograms of drugs with an estimated market value of AED32 million.

According to details, the police stopped a gang attempting to trade 99 kg of Captagon, arrested a suspect promoting drugs through an international phone number with 9.7 kg of crystal meth, and arrested a person using social media to promote drugs and 23 additional individuals with heroin, crystal meth, and hashish.

Dubai Police warn the public about the danger of drug promotion through social media and urge them to exercise caution and report suspicious activity immediately. The Dubai Police are committed to protecting the community and maintaining Dubai’s reputation as a safe place.

Individuals can report drug-related activity by calling the Dubai Police’s non-emergency number (901), using the “Police Eye” service, through the e-Crime platform or the website.

DHA announces contest to help residents adopt healthy habits

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, The Department of Public Health at the Dubai Health Authority announced today at the ongoing Arab Health Congress that it will organise a competition for community members to help improve their health and wellbeing.

Dr. Ramadan Al Blooshi, Advisor to the Director-General and Acting Director of the Public Health Department at the DHA said: “The aim of the initiative is to engage the public at a community level to adopt simple but effective lifestyle habits that will directly improve their health and wellbeing. Using the power of community and guiding them with screening, healthy habits and challenges we hope to empower community members to take charge of their lifestyle and improve their health.”

Residents will soon be able to join the competition by registering through DHA’s website( www.dha.gov.ae) till the holy month of Ramadan.

Dr Hend Al Awadhi, head of health promotion and education at the DHA, said that the competition known as “Health and Happiness” is aimed at empowering the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

Residents aged 18 and above can participate in it in either an individual or a single-family category. During the competition, candidates can take tests at any healthcare facility across Dubai.

Registration for the competition will begin in the middle of February, and residents will be able to join by registering through DHA’s website till the holy month of Ramadan. The competition will run till the end of the year.

“We are mainly focusing on three categories – level of activity, measuring BMI and measuring early screening detection. We will have follow-ups after every three months to see how candidates are doing and whether they have any questions about health and competition,” said Dr Al Awadhi.

As part of the competition, the candidates will undergo screening, BMI measurement, blood pressure, blood glucose and cholesterol checkups and mental health screening.

“We will also check how active people are in terms of carrying out their exercise. At the end of the year, we will evaluate all the candidates and score them based on these criteria and announce the winner at the next edition of Arab Health,” she added.

The Dubai Health Authority plans to make it an annual feature for the emirate’s residents to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

Dubai Health Authority signs an MoU with Trends Research and Advisory during Arab Health 2023.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates, The Dubai Health Authority signed today an MoU with TRENDS Research and Advisory during Arab Health 2023.

The aim of the MoU is to collaborate for several research projects, studies and polls relating to the health sector in the Emirate.

The MoU was signed by Fatima Abbas, CEO of Strategy & Corporate Development Sector at the DHA and Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS Research and Advisory in presence of a number of senior officials from both sides.

Abbas highlighted the MoU will support the authority’s efforts to develop an innovative health system based on scientific research, it will help felicitate policies based on research backed data and will contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of the health sector in Emirate.

She highlighted that Dubai Health Authority pays great emphasis to building strategic partnerships and joint cooperation with various specialized centers and research institutions to benefit from their capabilities in assessing, monitoring, analyzing and improving the health status of the population, and measuring the quality of health care services in the emirate.

Abbas said that Trends Research and Advisory has played a pioneering role in the field of studies and research.

She said the partnership will enhance efficiency and competitiveness of the health system in Dubai, and achieve the authority’s vision of a healthier and happier community.

Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of Trends Research and Advisory said that the signing of the memorandum of understanding with the Dubai Health Authority is in line with the regional and global “Trends” strategy aimed at expanding partnerships and constructively contributing to shaping the future with knowledge and science.

He said the collaboration with DHA extends across several areas including joint research, opinion polls and field surveys, as well as exchanging ideas, on issues and interests of both sides in research and studies.

Al-Ali stressed that partnership agreements and memorandums of research and scientific cooperation with various institutions and entities helps contribute to a deeper understanding of various regional and global issues and provides a comprehensive and accurate analytical perspective.
