OIC Secretary General Calls for Solidarity with Palestinian Cause and Appreciates Saudi Arabia’s Efforts During its Presidency of 14th Islamic Summit

Banjul: The Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, has expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its crucial role during its presidency of the 14th session of the Islamic Summit Conference.

He appreciated the Kingdom’s efforts and the generous support it provides to the organization under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, and HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

In his speech at the Senior Staff Preparatory meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Taha stressed the need for increased cooperation and solidarity to face the significant challenges confronting the organization. He referred specifically to the Palestinian issue, which is central to the system of joint Islamic action. He expressed his concern over the ongoing aggression against Gaza, premeditated m
urders, colonial settlement, the Judaization of the city of Jerusalem, and the violation of the sanctity of the city and the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Taha congratulated The Gambia on assuming the presidency of the summit and thanked the government and the people of The Gambia for their preparations. He affirmed OIC’s readiness to cooperate and coordinate with them to make the summit’s work successful.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Mamadou Tangara, delivered a speech at the beginning of the Preparatory Meeting for the Summit. He welcomed the delegations of the countries participating in the Summit and stressed the role of the OIC in confronting the various challenges facing the member states.

The preparatory meeting will discuss the documents of the 15th session and the senior officials’ meeting report. It will submit a report to the summit conference, from which a final statement will be issued. The statement will include the organization’s positions on the issues p
resented on its agenda, a resolution on Palestine and Jerusalem, and the Banjul Declaration.
