European Commission pays last instalment of 200 mln euros to Jordan in financial assistance

The European Commission Wednesday announced that it has paid the third and final installment of 200 million euro (USD 220 million) in Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) to Jordan.

This payment concludes the Macro-Financial Assistance operation for Jordan, which amounted to a total of 700 million euro (USD 772 million). Jordan had received the first and second payments of 250 euro million (USD 275 million) each in November 2020 and July 2021.

“This financial support is an important demonstration of the EU’s partnership and solidarity with Jordan. It has helped the country address its urgent financing needs, supported overall macro-economic stability and was a key driver of the implementation of transformative reforms,” said the EU?’s executive body in a press statement.

Today?’s payment comes after the Commission said it found that Jordan has broadly fulfilled the agreed policy conditions, which included important measures to improve public finance manage.

At the same time, Jordan continues to satisfy the necessary conditions as regards the respect of human rights and effective democratic mechanisms and a satisfactory track record under the International Monetary Fund programme, it said .

Discussing aspects related to removing aggression remnants in a meeting in Hodeida

The Senior Undersecretary of Hodeida province, Ahmed Al-Bishri, discussed on Wednesday with the Political Adviser – Deputy Head of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hodeidah Agreement “UNMHA”, Silvatore Kosi, the humanitarian aspects related to removing the remnants of the aggression in the affected districts, and finding solutions to alleviate the suffering of civil societies as a result of it.

The meeting, in the presence of the two deputy governors of the province, Muhammad al-Nahari and Ahmed Dahmous, reviewed the activities of the mission and the accompanying pros and cons during the last period, and the mission’s plans for the current year 2023.

At the meeting, the human agent stressed the keenness of the leadership of the local authority in the province to provide facilities and support to the team and the redeployment mission in Hodeidah and to continue coordination and consultation, which would make their tasks a success and implement their programs.

He stressed the need for the mission to adhere to the essence of its activity, not to deviate from its humanitarian path, and to contribute to stopping the escalation practiced by the loyalists of the aggression in the unliberated areas of the governorate in light of the armistice and the pressure to allow the entry of equipment and devices for removing mines left behind by the aggression, as a result of which dozens of innocent citizens fall daily.

He pointed out that these humanitarian actions are the main pillar for the return of the displaced and citizens to their areas and the process of rehabilitating vital infrastructure and implementing sustainable projects.

Minister of Youth meets Olympic Committee Directors Board

Minister of Youth and Sports, Mohamed Hussein Al-Moaydi, met on Wednesday with the Board of Directors of the Olympic Committee.
