Abu Dhabi, May 15, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Insilico Medicine, a clinical-stage generative artificial intelligence (AI)-driven drug discovery company, has appointed Michael Bayewitch, PhD, as Vice President (VP) of Business Development and Strategy. Based on the U.S. West Coast, Dr. Bayewitch will work closely with Alex Zhavoronkov, PhD, founder and CEO, Feng Ren, PhD, Co-CEO and CSO,  and Michelle Chen, PhD, Chief Business Officer. He is responsible for driving business development activities and developing attainable operation strategies to support Insilico’s continued growth.

Dr. Bayewitch is an accomplished industry veteran with more than 22 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including in due diligence and in/out-licensing transactions, focusing on oncology, autoimmune diseases, and respiratory diseases. Prior to Insilico Medicine, he worked for international mid- and large-size pharmaceutical companies including ITI Life Sciences, Teva Pharmaceuticals Inc., and EOC Pharma, and most recently served as Executive Director of International Business Development for Simcere Pharmaceutical Group, where he performed opportunity identification, analysis, and forecast resulting in multiple licensing deals.

Minister stresses commitment to including mental health in national systems

Minister of Health Firas Hawari on Tuesday underscored the ministry’s commitment to building impenetrable and equitable health systems that offer mental health services in the Kingdom. He made the remark during a meeting with a delegation of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations Interagency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases (NCD) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), who is visiting the Kingdom to conduct a specialized study on investing in mental health in Jordan in cooperation with the ministry and to estimate the costs and health benefits of this investment. The study includes a three-day workshop aimed at strengthening policies and increasing interest and investment in mental health as a top goal of public health and the Sustainable Development Goals. “The study comes at an opportune time to measure the benefits of expanding mental health services and addressing public health challenges,” said Hawari, adding that conducting this study is a leading example of cooperation between the government, international organizations and development partners. He stressed all parties’ commitment to working together to implement the interventions laid out in the investment study and improve mental health services in Jordan. During the meeting, Hawari gave a briefing on the reality of mental health in the Kingdom and the services that the ministry offers, stressing that the ministry is working to improve and facilitate access to mental health services at various levels. He explained that persons with disabilities, including psychological disabilities, are covered by health insurance, enabling them to obtain services from national hospitals and affiliated health centers, including diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, admission to hospitals and follow-up in clinics. He indicated that the ministry, in cooperation with the World Health Organization and the International Medical Corps, has established psychological and community clinics and admission units in a number of hospitals and health centers, to facilitate patients’ access to mental health services, in addition to training health personnel on mental health with the aim of integrating mental health into overall health care services. For her part, Representative of the World Health Organization in Jordan Jamela Al-Raiby, said that strengthening policies and increasing investment in mental health is a top goal for public health and sustainable development. She added that WHO and the Ministry of Health, in cooperation with the UNDP, have formed a specialized team to study the economic feasibility of investing in mental health in Jordan, which offers an estimate for the cost of mental health services that the health sector and national economy will bear. The UNDP’s Resident Representative Randa Aboul-Hosn stressed that mental health is a human right that it is necessary to achieve sustainable development, pointing out conducting such a study is a crucial step to ensuring inclusiveness and access to top-grade mental health services.

Undersecretary of Foreign Ministry Heads Meeting of Representatives to Prepare for Foreign Ministers Preparatory Meeting for Arab Summit

The meeting to prepare for the 32nd regular session of the Arab summit was chaired by Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi, the Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Ministry for International Multilateral Affairs. Representatives and senior officials attended the meeting, and Dr. Al-Rassi received the presidency from the previous summit’s representative, Ambassador Abdel Hamid Shbira.

Dr. Al-Rassi expressed gratitude to the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria for efforts in the previous year’s presidency and welcomed the delegation of the Syrian Arab Republic to the meeting.

President of Supreme Judiciary Council Praises Support Given by HH the Amir to Development of Justice Systems

HE President of the Supreme Judiciary Council and President of the Court of Cassation Dr. Hassan bin Lahdan Al Hassan Al Mohannadi praised the support given by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the development of justice systems.

In a statement today, His Excellency said that the issuance of the Judicial Authority Law is one of the main pillars to regulate the work of the judiciary as it provides a stimulating environment for judicial work and guarantees for judges and litigants, noting that this law is one of the results of the national initiative to develop justice systems and the strategic plan to develop the judiciary, in a way that contributes to the achievement of prompt justice and the consolidation of the independence of the judiciary.

HE the President of the Supreme Judiciary Council pointed out that the law included many new texts to balance the rights and duties of judges and develop judicial work according to high indicators while strengthening control mechanisms over the quality of judicial work and the performance of judges.

This law, he said, is a new start in the process of the Qatari judiciary, nearly twenty years after the issuance of the previous Judicial Authority Law, explaining that the Council has begun preparing the executive procedures for the new law to activate its provisions when it comes into force after its publication in the Official Gazette.

Al-Mangoush discusses with her Kuwaiti counterpart the latest developments on the Arab and international arenas.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation “Naglaa Al-Mangoush” discussed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait “Salem Abdullah Jaber Al-Sabah” the latest developments on the Arab and international arenas and the importance of coordination and unifying efforts to enhance opportunities for stability and peace, especially in the circumstances the region is going through.

This came during a meeting held today, Tuesday, in the Kuwaiti capital, Kuwait, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

During the meeting, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister affirmed the depth of the brotherly relations between the two countries, reiterating his country’s support for all efforts exerted to enhance stability in Libya in a way that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people for development and prosperity.

For her part, Al-Mangoush praised the role of the State of Kuwait in supporting Libya and its people through its stances in various Arab and international forums.

After the meeting, Al-Manqoosh visited the Peace Palace Museum and the House of Islamic Antiquities in the Kuwaiti capital, praising Kuwait’s role in preserving Islamic identity and human heritage, and expressing her happiness and admiration for the immortal human values it embodies.

Al-Mangoush arrived yesterday, Monday, in the State of Kuwait, on an official visit for two days.
