The Arab League on Monday called for a reevaluation of plans and measures related to the labor market, saying such a move is necessary in light of the meteoric changes around the region.
Rapid advancements in technology, coupled with the emergence of new job, behooves the entire region to adopt a new approach in dealing with the labor market, said Mohammad Abdulqader, the Cairo-based bloc’s chief of Arab organizations and unions, said during pan-Arab talks over regional labor.
These new measures would bode well for Arab countries given the fact that a robust labor market would have a positive ripple effect on economic growth, he added, which is in line with national sustained development goals.
The talks come at a critical juncture at a time where challenges and difficulties abound, said Mauritania’s Ministry of Public Service, Labor and Modernization of Administration’s assistant undersecretary Mohammad Al-Salem, who is presiding over the talks.
On the agenda for the talks, he said the topics run the gamut from the future of social insurance in the region and education to efforts aiming to accelerate the digital drive in Arab countries and global inflation induced by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
