FM sends message to Secretary-General of UNCTAD

Caretaker Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf sent a message to the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Rebeca Grynspan.

The message affirmed the position of the Government of the Republic of Yemen and its Armed Forces on ensuring the security of freedom of navigation in the Red and Arabian Seas and the importance of protecting the safe passage of global trade because of its effective impact on the levels of economic growth of developing and least developed countries.

The message indicated the steadfastness of the Republic of Yemen’s position rejecting the war crimes and genocide of civilians taking place in Gaza Strip, in light of the inaction and blatant failure on the part of the international community and its institutions, especially the Security Council, which did not intervene to stop the crimes committed by the Zionist entity.

Minister Sharaf reiterated the Government of the Republic of Yemen’s affirmation that all ships have the freedom to move to and from the
Red and Arab seas without any restrictions, with the exception ships of the Zionist enemy or those heading to the occupied Palestinian ports, until the aggression is stopped and humanitarian, food and fuel aid enters Gaza Strip.

The message touched on the statements of an official at the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on January 25, 2024, which were characterized by exaggeration and painted a bleak picture of the current situation in the Red Sea and its impact on the costs of global trade.

The message confirmed that freedom of navigation in the Red and Arab seas is guaranteed and is proceeding normally with the exception of Israeli ships or those heading to it, and this measure will stop as soon as the aggression stops , food, medicine and fuel aid enters Gaza Strip, without any obstacles.
