Casio to Release Standout G-SHOCK in Black Full-Metal Design

Featuring Intricate Combination of Multiple Finishes

TOKYO, Feb. 24, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announced today the latest addition to its G-SHOCK brand of shock-resistant watches. Based on the GMW-B5000, the original full-metal take on the first-ever G-SHOCK, the new GMW-B5000MB features an array of detailed finishes that come together in a refined black design.

GMW-B5000MB

The GMW-B5000MB brings together individual components treated with honing finishes* and multiple polishings in a premium-quality, shock-resistant watch with a uniquely appealing look that makes the most of rich texture and feel.

The entire exterior of the timepiece is honed and treated with black ion plating to deliver matte black sophistication, and additional finishes are applied to individual details. The hairline finish on the raised areas on the side of the bezel and the sides of the band retains a metallic texture, while tempering the shine. The mirror finish, by contrast, adds glossy shine to the surface of the screws, buttons, and other details.

GMW-B5000MB

With this latest model, Casio adds a new finishing process, as well. After the initial black ion plating, the top surface of the bezel is polished again with a hairline finish to expose most of the stainless steel beneath, with its silver-colored gleam. The chic and seamless integration of the silvery hue of the stainless steel of the bezel and matte black of the body, complemented by multiple intricate finishes, results in a beautifully detailed, quality design with a one-of-a-kind, sophisticated look.

* A surface finishing technique that involves polishing a surface by spraying it with fine abrasives

The functionality of the GMW-B5000MB is just as good as its design. The watch comes with both standard radio wave reception and Smartphone Link connectivity, which allows the owner to use the G-SHOCK Connected app to maintain precision timekeeping and easily manage alarms, world time, and other settings. The watch can also use handy Reminder and Phone finder functions when paired with the app.

Digital Development Logo

Binance Founder shares vision for future of finance and cryptocurrency at ‘Museum of the Future’

DUBAI, The Museum of the Future hosted today the guest of honour Changpeng Zhao, Founder and CEO of Binance, the world’s biggest bitcoin and altcoin crypto exchange by volume, on the first instalment of the Future Talks series at Dubai’s iconic Museum, which will see prominent futurists, industry experts and scientists offer unique insights into humanity’s greatest challenges and their solutions.

Zhao commonly known as “CZ” presented his insights during an hour-long session about cryptocurrencies and the future of digital finance. In his presentation, Zhao hailed the Museum of the Future; Dubai’s latest architectural landmark, as a fitting stage to discuss the role of cryptocurrencies, which he described as “the money of the future.” “People have not yet explored all the possibilities offered by blockchain technology, which may have applications beyond our current imagination,” said Changping Zhao, adding that neglecting the global shift towards cryptocurrencies is a mistake, praising at the same time the pioneering legislative framework of Dubai and the UAE that provide proper legal incubators for advanced and innovative technologies such as cryptocurrencies.

“It is a great honour to be one of the first speakers in the Future Talks series and to witness first-hand the Museum of the Future; it is truly fantastic,” Zhao said.

“Blockchain has many new applications we had previously not even imagined, and it is fitting to be talking about cryptocurrencies here, at the Museum of the Future, as cryptocurrencies are the money of the future.”

During his talk, Zhao said, “The main risk with cryptocurrency is the risk of not adopting it; you risk losing the future. If you don’t take that risk, you don’t have the future, as you don’t have the future of money.

“Bitcoin is neutral, and it doesn’t have borders. It doesn’t side with anyone. And it can be used in any country. So, in theory it should hold its value – in this way it is far superior to gold.”

Addressing cryptocurrency ‘doubters’, who dismiss digital assets such as Bitcoin as a bubble destined to burst, Zhao said, “I believe cryptocurrencies and blockchain are not bubbles. They will not go away. Once you have a couple of hundred million people using cryptocurrency, you cannot erase it.”

He shared his vision for the pivotal role of Dubai in globalising the future of the sector, and regulation of the sector saying, “Today, the industry is still young. We need frameworks. It is also very important for industry players to be working closely with regulators. Some regulators like Dubai, the UAE, in many parts of the world are very, very smart about this.”

The founder and CEO of Binance concluded his remarks by saying, “We should encourage people to adopt this technology, but we should adopt it in a safe way. There should be information sharing but there has to be a balance with privacy.”

For his part, Saeed Al Gergawi, Head of Dubai Future Academy, said, “The ‘Future Talks’ series meet the vital and main objective of the Museum of the Future, which is to be a laboratory for innovation in future-related fields, including health, education, smart cities, energy and transportation and finance. Having Zaho as the first guest of the series is a strong kick-off as he is considered one of the most prominent visionaries who contribute to generating ideas and perceptions to address the challenges facing societies today.”

Al Gergawi added, “The ‘Future Talks’ sessions from the Museum of the future aims to be a leading platform for the dissemination of knowledge and a pool of great ideas that support the Museum’s efforts to accelerate scientific development in various fields.”

Zhao’s session is part of a series of nine talks that the Museum of the Future will hold from February 24th to March 29th. Talks are open to the public free of charge, subject to prior registration via the museum’s website.

These talks, during which global industry leaders will focus on the future of their sector, revolve around several topics that discuss opportunities in: the field of cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs); the role that Dubai plays in investing in the future; the future of mixed reality; the reality of the Arab world; science; the future of mobility; the role that metaverse technology plays in changing the world; the future of finance; the future of the technology sector; and the state of the world in 2022.

Future Talks aims to explore various fields and enhance the ability of research institutions to anticipate the future, as well as celebrate the successes of scientists and talents and institutionalise, design and create the future. This reflects the role of the Museum of the Future, which represents a global intellectual centre that brings together international partners and specialised research institutions to study current and future challenges in-depth to provide new and innovative solutions.

MoHRE issues Ministerial Resolution on regulation of employment agencies

DUBAI, The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) issued a Ministerial Resolution on the regulation of employment agencies, in implementation of the federal decree law regulating labour relations.

The Resolution covers the activities of employment agencies, mediation between parties in terms of labour relations, and negotiating contract conditions when establishing a labour relation. It established several procedures covering agency licences and allows the opening of branches in the licencing emirate or any other emirate, according to the requirements of local regulatory authorities.

In accordance with the law, the Resolution has set a range of obligations for agencies covering mediation, temporary employment and outsourcing, as well as the obligations of beneficiaries.

The obligations of agencies, whether in terms of mediation, temporary employment or outsourcing, include drafting accurate contracts consistent with the law and keeping workers’ records for at least two years that contain the details of workers, employers and beneficiaries.

The responsibilities of mediation agencies include returning workers to the country from which they were recruited and covering the costs, being responsible for damages caused to others due to its activities if it is proven that the agency has not complied with the terms of an agreement with an employer or beneficiary and the worker’s failure to pass a required medical examination.

The obligations of a temporary employment agency and outsourcing also include implementing the legally established requirements of any employer towards a worker, and the agency may not, under any circumstance, fail to implement these obligations due to a beneficiary’s failure to fulfil their agreement.

The agency must also not employ minors who are not eligible to work under applicable laws in the country or receive any cash or commission. The ministry will oblige the agency to provide a relevant acknowledgement.

Concerning the obligations of beneficiaries towards workers, the Ministerial Resolution specified a set of obligations, including meeting all occupational health and safety requirements for workers proportional to the nature of their work and the risks of their professions, under the relevant legislation, and not assigning a worker to any job or service outside the general framework of their agreed duties, in addition to prohibiting workers from working for more hours than the total agreed with the agency, except under overtime provisions and controls stipulated in the Decree Law, relevant executive regulations and decisions, and after the agency’s approval.

The obligations also include providing workers with instructions on their required duties in writing, under the general framework agreed with the agency, providing an attendance sheet before sending workers to their agencies, recording, in writing, any reservations made by workers about the content of the sheet, and not employing workers for other parties.
