Abu Dhabi Media launches Majid Universe app

ABU DHABI, Abu Dhabi Media (ADM), the company behind the popular pan-Arab children’s comic magazine, TV channel and website, Majid, has launched Majid Universe – a brand-new app that takes the Arab world’s favourite animated characters into the digital age.

Available on iOS and Android devices and Apple TV, via monthly and annual subscriptions, the Majid Universe app will give users access to watch, read and play an 800-plus hour library of content, live and animated TV shows, games, and over 2,000 Majid magazines dating back to 1979 – with some having never been seen by the public. Families will be able to leverage one Majid Universe account across five devices, with users able to create personalized avatars and playlists.

The new digital app represents the latest evolution in the ongoing adventures of a glossary of Majid characters that have been told over four decades via an ever-expanding array of formats, including an animated series, TV channel and a monthly print publication.

The Majid Universe app also grants users access to exclusive Majid world content, including My Little Pony Friendship Magic Rainbow Roadtrip; Charley Goes to School; the animated editions of the original Peanuts comic strips with stories of Charlie Brown’s gang and his beagle Snoopy; the adventures of Mick the Mini Chef, who explores the wonderful world of food with kids from all over the planet; Anitta – the fun club focusing on wellness issues, community and original songs performed by the host; and Pablo S2, which follows the real-life experience of a five-and-a-half year old autism spectrum boy and his art world friends.

Users will also have access to the super-popular Freej series, which focuses on Emirati women and their lives in a residential neighbourhood of modern-day Dubai, and the animated Mansour comedy series, which centres around an active, life-loving, 12-year-old boy and his adventures with best friends, Obaid and Salem.

“Building on a legacy that spans over four decades of original beloved IPs, the Majid Universe App is groundbreaking in its own right – not only does it feature the region’s largest library of Arabic original programming, animated and live-action, it’s also the first-ever, multi-experiential app for children in the Middle East, offering video content, e-magazines and interactive games, a reflection of the wholistic value that ultimately sets the Majid Universe apart,” said Mariam Al Serkal, Head of Majid Platform at ADM. “We can’t wait for both children and adults to connect with Majid’s extensive library of both nostalgic and modern content that speaks to today’s audience in unique, accessible and entertaining ways.”

Majid Universe app also features exclusive ADM content, including more adventures from Majid TV’s first girl power superheroine ZAKIA; brand-new bedtime stories from Amoona; and animations of the popular Hikayat Abo Al Thurafaa comic series.

There will also be an exciting 13-episode reboot of Fateen featuring all-new characters and more comedy, drama and action with the Fteen gang and its conflict with his sister Dana’s gang of girls; more antics from the amazing camel Jamool; short animations of the crazy hoteliers Basal & Filfil – the first Majid series in the Egyptian dialect; and the hilarious show Gadha show with its beloved Majid presenter, Salem.

ABU DHABI, Half a century of effective partnerships between the UAE and the United Nations was crowned by the country’s election for membership in the Security Council for the 2022-2023 term and the Human Rights Council for the 2022-2024 term.

The UAE has won a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council’s 2022-2023 term through the elections held in June, but this will not be the first time, as the country also held this seat in 1986-1987.

Under the same framework, the UAE has accomplished another new international achievement by becoming a member of the Human Rights Council for the third time for the 2022-2024 term, by acquiring 180 votes during an election held on 14th October, 2021.

These two achievements will enhance the UAE’s prominent stature within the international community, as well as underscore its profound partnership with the UN for the past half a century.

Dena Assaf, UN Resident Coordinator in the UAE and Deputy Commissioner-General of the UN at the Expo 2020 Dubai, said the UAE has always supported the UN’s global, regional and local efforts.

The UAE today celebrated the annual UN Day, with a special celebration held at Expo 2020 Dubai.

Since the UAE joined the international organisation in 1971, it has demonstrated its commitment to international conventions and treaties, achieved international leadership in human rights, labour and women’s and children’s rights, as well as in humanitarian and relief aid areas.

It has also supported various UN agencies and commissions on many occasions, most notably in terms of maintaining international security and stability and promoting tolerance and dialogue.

The country has always sought to reinforce its membership in specialist UN agencies, including the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

The UAE has signed cooperation agreements with over 28 UN agencies covering some 80 consultancy and technical missions in the country for various ministries, federal and local authorities.

The country also hosts the offices of a number of UN regional offices, including United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The UAE has provided free office space and financial contributions to UN agencies and non-governmental organisations at the International Humanitarian City in Dubai, and assists their work to send humanitarian aid to any disaster zone in the region.
