NAS Sports Tournament announces schedule of competitions

DUBAI, 22nd March, 2023 (WAM) — The Organising Committee of NAS Sports Tournament has announced the schedule of the various competitions of the 10th edition of the Tournament, which takes place during the Holy Month of Ramadan at Nad Al-Sheba Sports Complex, under the title, “Unlimited Abilities”. Participants in the Tournament, scheduled from 23rd March to 10th April 2023, will compete in eight sports competitions: volleyball, padel tennis, jiu-jitsu, archery, fencing, wheelchair basketball, running and cycling. The Organising Committee has completed all logistic preparations at the Main Hall of Nad Al-Sheba Sports Complex to host the volleyball, jiu-jitsu, archery and fencing competitions and at the Padel Hall. Preparations were also made in the Hall of Dubai Club for People of Determination, where the wheelchair basketball competition will be held. The two-day cycling competition will be arranged at the tracks of Mohammed Bin Rashid City, while the running competition will be held at Meydan Tracks for the third successive year. Naser Aman Al-Rahma, Assistant Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council and Deputy Chairman of the Organising Committee, said, “The Tournament presents a vital role in boosting the culture of several sports, improves technical levels of our athletes and increase the numbers of participants in these sports. We are pleased to continue organising the Tournament every year to provide opportunities to Emirati and expatriate athletes to participate in fruitful competitions, improve levels and enhance sports careers.” The draw ceremony for the volleyball, padel and wheelchair basketball competitions is scheduled for Wednesday 22nd April 2023 at 11:00 am, in the presence of the managers of participating teams. The eight participating teams in the volleyball competition will be classified into two groups; each group comprising four teams. The title holder of the last edition of the Tournament will head the first group, while the second group will be headed by the 2nd placed team. The 10th edition of the NAS Sports Tournament will kick off with the padel competition, scheduled from Thursday 23rd March to Sunday 9th April at the Padel Hall in Hamdan Sports Complex, while the jiu-jitsu competition will be held on Friday 24th March. The archery competition will take place on 26th-27th March at the Main Hall of Nad Al-Sheba Sports Complex. The fencing competition is scheduled on 28th-29th March at the Main Hall, and the cycling competition will take place on 30th-31st March at Meydan Road and various locations in Mohammed Bin Rashid City. The volleyball competition will be held from 1st-10th April at the Main Hall of Nad Al-Sheba Sports Complex. The wheelchair basketball competition is scheduled from 1st-9th April at Dubai Club for People of Determination, while the final stage of this competition will be organised at the Main Hall of Nad Al-Sheba Sports Complex. The running competition will be held on Friday 7th April at Meydan Track. The NAS Sports Tournament has been launched as per the directives and the support of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, aiming to develop the sports sector in Dubai.

UAE President receives UAE’s Swimming Team 62

ABU DHABI, 15th March, 2023 (WAM) — President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received the UAE’s “Swimming Team 62”, who completed 62-kilometre swim around Abu Dhabi island. During the meeting, which took place at Qasr Al Bahr, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed exchanged cordial talks with the team and urged them to continue participating in awareness initiatives that contribute to educating the community and strengthening its role in preserving the marine environment. The swimming initiative, in which a number of government and private institutions participated, aims to enhance community awareness of the importance of the marine environment and water safety. A number of swimmers, namely Mansour Al Dhaheri, Vania Neves and Arjuna Don, succeeded in completing a 62-kilometre swim around Abu Dhabi, which took 34 hours non-stop. The initiative also aims to introduce the importance of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), which the UAE will host later this year, in addition to preserving the environment and achieving sustainable development goals. The initiative team undertook a year-long intensive training, during which they swam a total of 900 kilometres. On the other hand, and within the framework of this initiative, the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi organised an event through which the department set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of participants in a water safety lesson in one place. number of entities, including the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge, Abu Dhabi Maritime, the Make A Wish Foundation, and the Storm Swimming Academy, participated in the “biggest lesson on water safety,” which highlighted the dangers of swimming in open water and raised awareness on relevant safety measures.

The lesson also saw the participation of 336 students from Abu Dhabi’s universities and schools, including a number of people of determination.

Emirates to operate two A380s to Bahrain for Formula 1 races

Emirates will upgrade two of its services to Bahrain on 6th March to the A380 to serve high demand from those visiting and attending the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix 2023.

Flights EK 835/836 and EK 837/838, all previously operated by the Boeing 777-300ER, have been upgraded to the flagship and customer favourite, the Emirates A380, and underscore the airline’s commitment to make connections for travellers to and through Dubai even easier. EK 835 departs Dubai at 01:50, arriving in Bahrain at 02:05, while EK 836 departs Bahrain at 03:50, arriving back in Dubai at 06:05. The other conveniently timed morning EK 837 flight departs Dubai at 08:20 and will arrive in Bahrain at 08:40. EK 838 then leaves Bahrain at 10:25 arriving in Dubai at 12:40.

Both Emirates Airbus A380 aircraft serving the Dubai-Bahrain route on 6th March will offer a total of 517 seats in a three-class configuration, with 427 spacious seats in Economy Class, 76 fully flat-bed seats in Business Class and 14 First Class Private Suites. The two A380s join Emirates’ other daily flight to and from Bahrain, operated with the Boeing 777-300ER.

Shabab Al-Ahli Sports Club hosts Football Companies Week’s Events

DUBAI, Shabab Al-Ahli Sports Club organises events from 20th to 26th February as part of the football companies’ week, which is organised under the supervision of Dubai Sports Council (DSC) to develop the abilities of football companies of Dubai clubs in organisational, technical, social and legal fields.

The first day’s events dealt with the sports, social and cultural aspects, as well as legal aspects. The first aspect included cultural and entertaining competitions for players and students who participated in sports training at the football pitches as a preliminary step to make them acquainted with the Club’s activities and to motivate students to join clubs and participate in sports activities in a safe and attractive environment, while the legal element included a workshop on professional athletes’ contracts, presented by the Advisor Omar Hassan bin Khalifa from the National Olympic Academy.

The second day’s events discussed the marketing aspect, which included two workshops; the first of which was about football sponsorship and marketing, while the second workshop focused on ways to maintain sponsorship. Both workshops were presented by Mohammed Amal Ramiz.

The third day’s events deal with the medical aspect, which comprises two workshops in first aid and healthy nutrition, to be presented by Al-Tadawi Medical Centre. The legal aspect will be organised on the fourth day, including two lectures on the consequences of the termination of contracts for fair and unfair reasons besides a lecture on the protection of minor players, to be presented Advisor by Ahmed Abdul Fattah the Legal Advisor of Shabab Al-Ahli Club and Company. The Fourth day’s events also include a workshop on media aspect comprising a lecture on the requirements of media appearance for players in TV interviews, which will be presented by Abdul Baqi Sheikh Idris, the Media Officer at Shabab Al-Ahli Club.

The fifth day’s events will deal with the administrative aspect. In this regard, two lectures will be held; the first of which is under the title Introduction to Evaluation, while the second is about the elements of Performance Evaluation. Both lectures will be presented by Dr. Wasam Al-Mustafa from Shorttrack Consulting and Management Studies Company.

The sixth day’s events will focus on the financial aspect. Two lectures will also be organised; the first of which is about the value-added tax to be presented by Mohammed Al-Nuaimi Auditing Accounts Company, while the second lecture will deal with companies’ taxes, and will be presented by Abdulla Al-Mulla Auditing Accounts Co.

The one–month football companies’ events are held with the participation of the football companies of Dubai’s four clubs; these are Al-Nasr, Al-Wasl, Shabab Al-Ahli and Hatta. Each football company is scheduled to host fruitful events throughout the full week. Hatta Football Company hosted the last week’s events, while Al-Nasr Football Company hosted the first week’s events and Al-Wasl Football Company will host the Program’s events from 27th Feb. to 5th March.

The football companies’ week is organised as part of DSC’s strategic plan to attain excellence and sports achievements through developing the abilities of Dubai sports clubs’ players and administrators.

Hatta Sports Club hosts Football Companies Week’s events

DUBAI, Hatta Sports Club held various successful events as part of the football companies’ week, which was organised under the supervision of the Dubai Sports Council. The aim was to improve the organisational, technical, and social skills of football companies in Dubai clubs.

The first day of the event included a grassroots festival that was held for male students aged 8 and 9 years from Hatta schools for boys. The second day’s activities included the same festival but for female students from Hatta schools for girls. Furthermore, a workshop was held at the DSC’s premises by John Williams, the Sports Manager of Amiens Club of France, and Rashid Aamir, the Sports Manager of Hatta Football Company.

Today, Hatta Club organised a lecture at its premises that focused on the Importance of Professionalism for Football Academies’ Talents. The events of Hatta Football Companies’ Week will end on Friday, 17th February, with an open sports day that will include the participation of Hatta Club’s staff and workers.

Shabab Al-Ahli Football Company will host the events of the programme from 20th to 26th February, while Al-Wasl Football Company’s events are scheduled from 27th February to 5th March.

Al-Nasr Football Company organised the first week’s events, and they collaborated with Hemaya Schools. The first football team’s players participated in the sports activities, and competitions, cultural, sports, and entertainment activities were held for players and administrators from all Dubai clubs.

Several lectures were given during the week, and they covered various topics such as the features of sports professionalism contracts, amendments in the secondment contracts, football companies’ sponsors and partnership outputs, and partnerships with community entities on the company’s social responsibility. The last day witnessed interactive training for press conferences before and after matches, as well as brainstorming sessions.

The football companies’ week is part of the DSC’s strategic plan to attain excellence and sports achievements by developing the abilities of Dubai sports clubs’ players and administrators. The events will last for a month, and each football company will host various events throughout the week.

The DSC will continue to organise programmes and initiatives in collaboration with various governmental and private sports entities to develop the sports sector, particularly in the grassroots category for multiple sports. They are considered future champions who will represent the homeland in various fields. Some of the prominent championships currently are the Dubai Open Football Academies Tournament, Dubai Open Basketball Academies Tournament, Dubai Grassroots Football Festival – U-8, and Dubai Intercontinental Cup U-13.

Barcelona wins title of Dubai Intercontinental Football Cup – U 13

DUBAI, Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has honoured Barcelona Team of Spain as the champion for the 6th Dubai Intercontinental Football Cup – U 13, the biggest of its kind in terms of the variety and names of participating teams, which was organised by Fursan Hispania Academy under the supervision of DSC.

The Championship took place from 10th to 12th February at GEMS Winchester School in Dubai with more than 400 players representing 20 teams; among which were four Emirati teams; Al-Nasr, Al-Wasl, Shabab Al-Ahli and Al-Wehda.

The winners were honoured by Ahmed Salem Al-Mahri, Director of the Sports Development Department in DSC, and Michel Salgado, the prominent former star of Real Madrid and the Spanish National Team.

Barcelona beat Cruzeiro of Brazil 4 – 3 via a penalty shootout in the final match to win the Championship Cup. Concerning individual awards, Chelsea’s Hezekiah Grimwade was honoured as the Championship’s best player, while the Cruzeiro’s Kek Masudo won the top scorer’s award and Pablo Penia of Barcelona gained the best goalkeeper’s title.

In Silver Cup Competition, the Wakatak Team of Japan defeated Valladolid of Spain 5 – 4 via a penalty shootout in the final match to win first place.

Dubai Intercontinental Football Cup – U 13 is a model of cooperation between DSC and private entities to develop the sports sector by organising various community and sports championships and events.
