Gov Games signs partnership agreement with DSC to host its fourth edition

DUBAI, Organising Committee of the Gov Games announced today its partnership with the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) for the 4th edition of the event taking place from 2nd-5th March 2023.

Under the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, the Gov Games is a collaborative initiative launched in 2018 to promote the importance of physical and mental health among government departments in a competitive atmosphere that enhances the spirit of one team, which has been expanded into community competition and newly announced international cities competitions.

Saeed Mohammed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council, said, “The Gov Games continues to expand and achieve more successes at all levels, thanks to the guidance and support of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Dubai Sports Council is proud to continue supporting the Gov Games, which has achieved significant growth and diversity, attracting participants and audiences of different nationalities due to its thrill, excitement, and quality of the challenges. The Gov Games also plays a key role in promoting a culture of teamwork.”

The previous editions of Gov Games were runaway successes, with over 3,000 participants from local and federal governmental agencies.

150 players from Dubai Clubs participate in ‘Dubai Grassroots Football Festival – U 8’

DUBAI, Dubai Sports Council (DSC) has launched “Dubai Grassroots Football Festival – U 8” for the sports season 2022-2023, which is organised by Dubai clubs football companies in collaboration with DSC.

The Festival aims to support the sports talents programme and boost grassroots & juniors’ technical level, based on FIFA’s instructions to implement the best world practices in football grassroots.

“Dubai Grassroots Football Festival – U 8” is organised in four stages (Al-Nasr, Al-Wasl, Shabab Al-Ahli & Hatta). The first stage was held at Hatta Club with 150 players from Dubai’s four sports clubs, who joined various sports, entertainment & cultural activities as part of this Festival.

Participating teams were classified into four groups. Each group plays four football matches at different stadiums. After each game, the teams participate in other activities, comprising various sports competitions such as ball shooting, footvolley, running, and tug of war, in addition to awareness lectures and cultural competitions.

The Festival’s second stage is scheduled on Saturday, 4th Feb. at Al-Wasl Club, while the third stage will take place Saturday, 25th Feb. at Al-Nasr Club, and the fourth stage will be held on Saturday, 4th March at Shabab Al-Ahli Club.

The Festival provides technical support for football companies to develop grassroots programmes, provides enough time for promising players to learn and enjoy football games and boost their skills, and enhances Dubai’s position in the sports sector.

Exciting competition in 2nd week of Labour Sports Tournament

SHARJAH, The second week of the Sharjah Labour Sports Tournament, saw exciting competitions in 30 games played in football, basketball, volleyball, hockey and cricket.

Organised by the Labour Standards Development Authority (LSDA) in Sharjah, the tournament is being played on the sports grounds of Sharjah National Park, every Saturday for three months.

LSDA Chairman Salem Yousef Al Qaseer praised the technical level of competitions, and its success in promoting the labour sports in the emirate, in implementation of the directives of H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Al-Qaseer said, “In this sixth edition of the tournament, we were keenly interested to provide an opportunity for all government and private institutions to participate in order to raise the level of competition among the players, with the aim of spreading sports as a lifestyle in the work environment in Sharjah.”

In the second week of the tournament, 12 strong football matches were played, and resulted in a draw between Hassan Mallatem Group and Zed Pro with two goals each, a victory for On Plan Real Estate over Julfar 4-0. Fast Contracting achieved won the Sharjah Archaeology Authority 5-1, Grinta defeated the Smart Alert 2-0. Sharjah Police won Sporty 5-1. Al Haiba Read Estate defeated Chadian Community 3-1, Sharjah Immigrations won Saned 4-0, and Al Hilal over Sharjah Municipality 15-0. Black Phone defeated Al Hajl 2-1, Sharjah Co-op beated American 2-1, and Al-Hassan FC beated Admirals 4-2.

Three basketball matches were held, in which UAS defeated UAS Faster 62-38, Friends defeated Old Gun 30-39, and GMG defeated Sharjah Co-op 30-11. Three volleyball matches were also held, in which Club Dunes defeated each of Bee’ah 4 and Bee’ah 3- 2-0 each, and Friends also beat Bee’ah 3 as well 2-0.

Five matches were held in the cricket competition, in which Wekaya Shadows won over Kerala Tigers by 7 wickets, Al Rayan Sharjah Strikers over Saned Facility Team with 71 runs, Bee’ah 3 over Sharjah Airport with 25 runs, Sharjah Police over Team Americana by 8 wickets, and Team Archaeology over the Black Warriors with 8 wickets.

Seven strong hockey games were played, resulted in the victory of Sharjah Municipality over Dubai Red Hockey 2-0, Sri Lion defeating Dubai Blue Hockey 2-0, Sharjah Police beating Sharjah Municipality 3-2. Dubai Blue Hockey beat Accipiter 4-1, Dubai Scarlet beating Sri Line 2-1, and Sharjah Police beat Dubai Red Hockey 3-0.

The competitions will continue next Saturday, which will witness a new round of the competition games.

Dubai hosts first ‘Ultra Kabaddi League’ with participation of 112 players

DUBAI, The Dubai Sports Council announced that it will host Dubai Ultra Kabaddi League, which will be held for the first time in the country and is organised by Sporteify in cooperation with the Dubai Sports Council.

Its competitions will be held in the sports hall of Al-Ahly Youth Club in Al-Mamzar from 4-24 June, with the participation of 112 players from 10 different countries making up 8 branded teams, competing in 32 matches.

The announcement came during a press conference addressed by Ali Omar, Director of the Sports Events Department in the Council, the famous Indian actor Kabir Duhan Singh, Bollywood star of Indian cinema, and Sumit Singh, the director of the organising company.

Ali Omar expressed his happiness to host the tournament, which he said is a “new and distinctive addition” to Dubai’s diversity for all segments of society. ” Our annual agenda includes organising and sponsoring many international and community sporting events.”

He added, “Dubai Sports Council is keen on the success of this tournament, which contributes to strengthening cooperation with the private sector to develop all kind of sports.”

For his part, Kabir Duhan Singh thanked the Dubai Sports Council for supporting the event.

The matches will also be broadcasted on television, internationally via streaming services.

Brand Dubai issues new destinations guide with a range of sports and fitness activities in winter

DUBAI, A new interactive #DubaiDestinations guide issued by Brand Dubai, the creative arm of the Government of Dubai Media Office (GDMO), invites residents and visitors to explore the wide range of sports and fitness activities that Dubai offers in the cooler months.

The ‘Outdoor Sports Destinations Guide’ lists diverse outdoor locations, sports centres and public fitness facilities that people in Dubai can take advantage of to stay active and fit in the winter.

The guide includes a comprehensive list of cycling tracks and walking and running trails that have been created across the emirate as part of the leadership’s vision to make Dubai the world’s most active city. Aligned with the objective of transforming Dubai into one of the most cycle-friendly cities in the world, the last few years have seen the expansion of the emirate’s cycling track network with several new pathways added.

Key tracks listed include the 50km sand bike track in Mushrif National Park, the Al Khawaneej Walking and Cycling Track, the Hatta Mountain Bike Trail, the Dubai Water Canal Walk, and the Nad Al Sheba Cycle Park, apart from a host of cycling and jogging pathways located in parks, beaches, waterfronts and neighbourhoods across Dubai.

The guide also lists clubs, stadiums and academies offering a wide assortment of outdoor sporting activities including football, basketball and badminton. The new guide features dedicated sections for padel tennis, tennis, volleyball, golf and equestrian sports.

Dubai witnesses plentiful sports events, great development in sport sector during 2022

DUBAI, The year 2022 was distinguished as the year of sport in the UAE and the entire world, as it witnessed the full return of the public and fans to enjoy watching sports competitions at the stadiums and pitches.

In Dubai, 2022 was marked as the year of attracting more local and international events and championships, which have attained remarkable development in terms of names of participants, various sports and huge numbers of fans.

The photos of the participation of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, in the Dubai Fitness Challenge at Sheikh Zayed Road in the heart of Dubai, accompanied by more than 193,000 participants, has presented an excellent model on the status of Dubai and its continuous development to attain several unprecedented records regarding the increase of the level of awareness with the importance of sport and the numbers of participants.

A report, prepared by Dubai Sports Council through an international house of expertise, has unveiled that the contribution of sport to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Dubai has attained an annual increase of more than AED9 billion with a contribution rate of 2.3% of Dubai’s GDP.

The sports sector provides 105 job opportunities as a result of the development of sports tourism.

The year 2022 has witnessed a significant increase in the number of various annual sports events, comprised of more than 103 international events and championships, top of which are: the World Padel Championship; Dubai World Golf Championship; the World Tennis League; two tours of the world beach volleyball championship; the 11th Emirates Intercontinental Beach Soccer Cup; Dubai Super Cup; AC Milan of Italy and Lyon of France.

The year of 2022 witnessed an increase in the number of registered companies specialised in the field of organising sports events and training camps, i.e. increase to 700 companies.

The number of various sports academies has increased to 400 academies, while the number of gym centres and specialised physical fitness centres increased to 400 each. The number of clubs in Dubai raised to 100 clubs.

Increase of International Training Camps

The year 2022 witnessed a significant increase in the number of training camps held in Dubai throughout the year by clubs, national teams and Olympic and sports champions.

In this regard, the Emirate hosted more than 120 international training camps held at Hamdan Sports Complex, Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex and the stadiums and pitches of many Dubai clubs and resorts, which are all well-equipped as per top international standards.

Sports Championships and Tourism

During 2022, Dubai witnessed an increase in the number of athletes and fans who arrived in Dubai from all over the world. In this respect, various championships and events were held with the participation of more than 31,000 athletes, and in the presence of 713,000 spectators and fans of multi-nationalities, most of them arrived from overseas. One hundred sixty-five local events were held with the participation of 1.77 million persons from 200 nationalities and in the presence of 220,000 fans, representing an important addition to the sports tourism sector.

The Emirate of Dubai witnessed the organisation of 12 sports conferences and exhibitions, top of which are the 17th Dubai International Sports Conference and the Globe Soccer Award, which were held in the presence of top world football stars.

Fifty-eight women’s events were organised, with a percentage of more than one event per week. Respective bodies organised 31 e-sports competitions, considering that e-sport is witnessing remarkable development and distinguished participation of world athletes and corporates from overseas.

Sports Events at Dubai’s Landmarks

Dubai Sports Council was keen to organise 62 various sports events and rounds of international championships for professional and amateur athletes during 2022 at the eminent tourist landmarks of Dubai, among which are: Al Marmoom Reserve, Jumeirah and Hatta.

Continuous Development for the Work’s Rules and Regulations

During 2022, Dubai Sports Council continued its efforts to develop relevant rules and regulations. In this regard, the 2nd version of “Hamdan Bin Mohammed Order of Merit for Sports Education Schools” has been launched, while an update was made for the 9th version of the Sports Excellence Model 2020/2023 to honour clubs and football companies which attain excellence and achievements.

Dubai Sports Council has also continued its qualifying programmes for technical and administrative staff working in Dubai. The Annual Forum for Dubai Clubs’ Coaches was organised with the participation of over 100 coaches from the different football categories.
