Twinning partnership between Salt, Indonesia’s Bandung discussed

Mayor of Salt Municipality Mohammad Hiyari on Sunday discussed with Indonesian ambassador in Amman Ade Padmo Sarwono ways of establishing twinning partnership between the Jordanian city and the Indonesian city of Bandung. Hiyari emphasized the strong and deep-rooted Jordanian-Indonesian ties, presenting a briefing on Salt’s most famous archaeological and heritage sites. In addition, he highlighted the investment opportunities and incentives available in the city, which was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List as the place of tolerance and urban hospitality. Furthermore, talks tackled means of providing scholarships for Salt’s youth to study in Indonesian universities. For his part, Ambassador Sarwono indicated his commitment to establish this twinning program, noting that necessary procedures will be taken to carry it.

JFDA implements regulatory plan for Shawarma establishments to ensure public safety

The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) has commenced the implementation of its comprehensive regulatory plan for shawarma establishments during the summer season. The plan comprises a series of proactive measures aimed at raising awareness, strengthening regulations, and conducting thorough inspections to bolster food monitoring and traceability systems, ultimately safeguarding the health and safety of citizens. In a statement released on Sunday, JFDA Director-General Nizar Muhaidat highlighted the strict regulatory actions that will be enforced. These measures include intensified field inspections of all food establishments specializing in fast food, with a particular focus on the shawarma sector. The inspections will also be extended to examine the sources of chicken utilized in shawarma preparation, ensuring their compliance with the declared source as provided by relevant stakeholders. To further reinforce food safety, the Administration has introduced a rapid and immediate field test specifically designed to detect the presence of albumin protein. This test serves to identify any prohibited use of eggs or egg powder in the preparation of shawarma fillings, thus preventing potential health risks associated with such practices. The regulatory plan will additionally concentrate on intensifying and expanding the sampling of ready-to-eat shawarma meals for assessment of their suitability for human consumption. Of particular importance is the priority given to examining and detecting the presence of Salmonella bacteria through the collection of samples, which will undergo laboratory tests within a swift 24-hour timeframe. This comprehensive plan represents a continuation of the JFDA’s ongoing commitment to enhance regulatory procedures and provide steadfast support in ensuring food safety. Its implementation is expected to significantly augment the efficiency of control measures, particularly during the summer season when rising temperatures amplify the importance of ensuring the safety and appropriateness of fast food for consumption.

Two officers killed in terrorist attack in northern Iraq

Two Iraqi army officers were killed, and other soldiers were wounded Sunday in a terrorist attack in Kirkuk, northern Iraq. An Iraqi security source said Daesh fighters had attacked a military base in Kirkuk, 280 km north of Baghdad. He explained that the attackers killed two officers, a lieutenant colonel and the other a captain, and wounded four soldiers, adding that the attackers hid in a watercourse before carrying out the attack.

Assistant Minister of Defense for Human Resources inspects Esnad Psychiatry Hospital

The Assistant Minister of Defense for Human Resources, Major General Ali Al-Kahlani, along with the Director of the Social Welfare Department, Brigadier General Dr. Muhannad Al-Mutawakel, made an inspection visit to Esnad Psychiatric Hospital.

He praised the role of the Social Welfare Department in establishing this specialized and qualitative hospital, which will contribute to serving members of the armed forces.

He pointed out that the hospital is a medical achievement in the direction of caring for psychological conditions, providing medical and treatment care for them.

Kahlani noted the humanitarian role played by the medical staff in dealing with psychological and mental illnesses, as they differ from organic diseases, which can often be treated within a short period of time.

For his part, Al-Mutawakel explained that the establishment of this specialized hospital will represent a quantum leap in psychiatry.

He stressed the continuation of work on developing the hospital and upgrading the medical care it provides for cases of mental illness.

Jordan, Iraq hold talks on cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy

Jordan Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Khaled Touqan said Saturday the Kingdom is interested in expanding cooperation with Iraq and all Arab countries in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and is willing to offer technical support and training and exchange expertise in this field. Touqan said during a recent meeting with an Iraqi delegation led by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Commission Naeem Al-Aboudi that Jordan is keen on cementing ties with Iraq, particularly in scientific and technological fields and the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The Jordanian nuclear reactor, he pointed out, is a landmark national scientific achievement, thanks to Jordanian expertise and competencies that endeavored to reach an advanced level in the national nuclear program for peaceful purposes and keep pace with global scientific developments in this domain. Toukan pointed to the various components of the Jordanian nuclear energy program, including the nuclear power plant, the nuclear reactor for research and training, the uranium exploration and mining project and the development of human resources, as well as the work of the Synchrotron-light for Experimental Science and Applications in the Middle East (SESAME). For his part, Al-Aboudi commended the model progress Jordan made in the nuclear field, adding that Iraq continued to enhance cooperation and share Jordan’s scientific expertise. Toukan accompanied the Iraqi minister and his delegation on a visit to the Jordan University of Science and Technology, where they were briefed on future projects and aspiration to make the university a scientific center at the Arab and international levels.

Al-Sami’i inaugurates cultivation of thousand seedlings in Al-Janadyah al-Olya of At Ta’iziyah Department

Member of the Supreme Political Council Sultan Al-Sami’i on Saturday launched the cultivation of a thousand coffee seedlings in Al-Janadyah al-Olya of the Department of At Ta’iziyah.

At the inauguration attended by Abdulwasee Al-Shamsi, the governor of Taiz, Al-Sami’i commended the initiative to launch the cultivation of 1,000 coffee saplings to encourage farmers to expand coffee cultivation and rehabilitate agricultural land to translate the directives of the Revolutionary Leadership for the Promotion of Agriculture and interest in the cultivation of cash crops for food security and self-sufficiency.

He pointed out that large areas of Taiz province have the climate to cultivate coffee as an important crop for farmers and support the national economy, especially in view of its high prices on the global market.

The member of the Supreme Political Council Al-Sami’i stressed the need to strengthen partnership with youth and community initiatives and local organizations in order to expand coffee cultivation and motivate the community to uproot qat trees and replace them with coffee seedlings.

The coffee tree was considered a source of national income and a local product associated with Yemen’s civilization and history. “We have distributed more than forty thousand seedlings to the regions and villages of some districts to activate the agricultural renaissance and confront economic challenges and turn Yemen from a consumer country into a source of various agricultural crops.

For his part, the Director of the Agricultural Bureau of the Governorate Abdullah Al-Ganadi stated that the distribution of coffee seedlings in conjunction with the inauguration of the agricultural season is part of the activities of the Agricultural Bureau of the province for the current year to promote the agricultural sector in the province.

He stressed the importance of concerted efforts to achieve broad success in cultivating this important cash crop.
