DBWC launches 5th edition of Mentorship Programme

DUBAI, The Dubai Business Women Council (DBWC) has officially launched the 5th edition of its Mentorship Programme, one of its trailblazing initiatives designed to strengthen Dubai’s reputation as a preferred destination for talented entrepreneurs and an incubator of major economic projects.

The six-month edition was launched during a briefing session held recently to bring mentees together with respected mentors representing the council’s partners, agencies, and institutions.

The list of companies taking part in the programme and providing mentorship support includes representatives from PWC, Edelman Middle East, Aramex, Dubai Land Department, Deloitte, Accenture Middle East, Be Unique Group, Ince & Co, American University in Dubai.

Members of the programme’s steering committee include Nadine Halabi, Business Development Manager of DBWC, Nazha Osseiran, Managing Partner of Chipmunk General Trading, Zina Janabi, PwC Middle East Inclusion & Diversity Director, and Nisrine El Lababidi, Founder of the Harf Noon Design Studio.

The mentorship programme will offer the best hands-on and professional training to enhance participants’ experiences and competitiveness in the business environment. The impressive participation seen by the training is nothing but another testament to its expanding significance, particularly in terms of enhancing participants’ professional skills and giving them the expertise, they need to succeed in their ventures.

Over the course of previous editions, the programme has established itself as a cornerstone of the council’s initiatives designed to empower working women to advance their careers.

Dubai Future Forum announces dates for 2023 edition

DUBAI, Dubai Future Foundation (DFF) has announced that the second edition of the Dubai Future Forum will take place on 27th and 28th November 2023 at The Museum of the Future, following the success of the inaugural forum earlier this month.

Khalfan Belhoul, CEO of DFF, said, “The second edition of the Dubai Future Forum will include a broader participation of experts from the region and the world and will witness more comprehensive and diverse discussions, strengthening international partnerships and enhancing their positive impact.”

“The first edition of Dubai Future Forum provided a global platform in Dubai to anticipate the future and present the world with a vision of the real, digital, and virtual worlds could look like,” he added

The first Dubai Future Forum took place on 11th-12th October at the Museum of the Future, with the participation of more than 400 of the world’s most prominent futurists, and more than 45 international foresight institutions and organisations. Its agenda included 30 dialogue sessions and workshops, which hosted more than 70 speakers from the UAE and the world, attracting more than 1,000 participants.

The Dubai Future Forum covered many topics in the field of future foresight, such as the energy transition, the digital divide, the future of personal data, social challenges, the future of the space sector, digitalisation, and the role of governments in developing mechanisms for future foresight. It also shed light on human inhabitation of planets, empowering future generations with tools for future foresight, the role of governments in regulating future trends and technology, future wealth, the role of the private sector in developing future legislation, the role of technology in healthcare, and strengthening the positive relationship between humans and technology.

GDRFA Dubai is steadfast in its quest for excellence: GDRFA Dubai Director-General

DUBAI, The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) is steadfast in its quest for excellence through strategic plans and practical steps, which helped secure its position as a global leader.

In an interview with the Emirates News Agency (WAM), Lt. General Mohamed Ahmed Al Marri, Director-General of GDRFA Dubai, said that the directorate has long since sought to make unprecedented achievements, which enabled it to bag 61 local and international awards, further cementing Dubai’s status as a leading global competitor in providing distinctive services.

GDRFA Dubai’s efforts pour into achieving the visions of the UAE’s leadership to improve the quality of life in the country, through developing innovative programmes and providing comprehensive digital services, as well as establishing and leveraging strategic partnerships to enhance the flexibility of services and achieve global levels of efficiency and competitiveness, he added.

He went on to explain that the vision of GDRFA Dubai revolves around its goal of becoming a pioneer in the field, enabling it to set benchmarks in terms of quality of services through its customer-centric approach, as well as utilise innovation and successful work models to achieve sustainability across the travel and tourism industry.

Asked about Dubai International Airport, Lt. General Al Marri said that the airport ranked first in terms of air traffic throughout 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 in the annual report issued by the Airports Council International (ACI), describing it as one of GDRFA Dubai’s top achievements.

Last year, he stated, the UAE was ranked first globally and regionally in terms of immigration laws in the IMD World Digital Competitiveness Ranking, and first in the number of international passengers indicator of the World of Air Transport report issued by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), with the UAE passport putting the country in the lead globally, according to the Passport Index.

Lt. General Al Marri revealed that the GDRFA’s “Smart Corridor” project completed 130,332 transactions in 2021, recording a customer happiness rate of 96 percent, while its “Smart Gates” project completed 4,116,968 transactions with a customer happiness rate of 98 percent.

Dubai Run invites runners to go the distance on 20 November

DUBAI, Dubai Run, presented by Mai Dubai, will take over the iconic Sheikh Zayed Road on 20th November, welcoming runners of all ages and fitness abilities to challenge themselves to go the distance.

The world’s largest free fun run and one of the key highlights of Dubai Fitness Challenge (DFC), the Dubai Run in its fourth edition will see tens of thousands of people take to the city’s giant running track with two routes to choose from: the 5km route, suitable for families and runners of all abilities, or the 10km route for more experienced runners. Both routes start near the Museum of the Future on Sheikh Zayed Road.

The 5km route passes by Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera and Burj Khalifa, and is very flat – making it ideal for social runners and families with children. The 10km route follows Sheikh Zayed Road to the Dubai Canal, then returns towards the Trade Centre before ending on Al Mustaqbal Street near DIFC. A longer route, it’s better suited to more experienced runners.

A Dubai Fitness Challenge flagship event, Dubai Run is aligned with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, to transform Dubai into one of the world’s most active cities and the broader vision to make Dubai the world’s best city to live in, work and visit.

A total of 146,000 runners, joggers, wheelers and walkers participated in Dubai Run last year, setting a record for the number of participants and making it the largest community fitness event in the world. This year, even greater numbers are expected to join and there will plenty of opportunities for everyone to get ready and train – including a family friendly Halloween run at Dubai Festival City on 29th October, the Mai Dubai City Half Marathon on 30th October, Expo CIty Dubai Run on 12th November and the Dubai Women’s Run on 13th November to name a few.

This year, Dubai Fitness Challenge will see its biggest line-up to date, with an exhilarating month of fun and inclusive fitness activities across two fitness villages: DP World Kite Beach Fitness Village, and RTA Last Exit Al Khawaneej Fitness Village, 20 community fitness hubs, a host of sporting events and thousands of free classes taking places all over the city.

Dubai Municipality opens winter camp permit applications for 2022-2023

DUBAI, Dubai Municipality announced that it will start receiving applications for temporary winter camp permits starting 18th October, 2022. The camping season at Al Awir-1 will commence on 1st November, 2022 and will last until the end of April 2023.

This comes in line with the Municipality’s efforts to facilitate efficient services for the community and customers to ensure their happiness and well-being.

The Municipality is fully prepared to receive permit applications for temporary camps during the 2022-2023 session. In collaboration with Dubai Police, Roads and Transport Authority, the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, and the Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Municipality has ensured that camping sites are equipped with essential supplies, along with clean, safe, and secure areas for campers. The municipality teams are prepared to meet all requirements of the campers and ensure exceptional winter experiences in nature.

Additionally, several spaces have been allocated for store owners to provide products and services to campers. Government agencies also have been provided dedicated spaces to ensure the happiness and well-being of their employees.

Dubai Municipality also stated that all required documents must be submitted with the permit application via Dubai Municipality’s website www.dm.gov.ae, including a valid copy of the passport issued by the Emirate of Dubai, and the extract of civil registry.

He highlighted that the permitted period for camping is six months, with a minimum of a three-month permit. The amount per square meter per week is 44 Fils, which specifies that it cannot exceed 400 square metres per single camp.

He further emphasised that permit holders are not allowed to rent the camps or allow others to occupy them. These camps are not meant for commercial use and renting to companies or hotels is not permitted. The camping facilities are only for family use.

The Municipality has assigned a dedicated team to manage the temporary winter camps, which will be responsible for following up on permit issues and making sure of timely completion. They will also be responsible for addressing issues and obstacles hindering the application process, conducting periodic field monitoring of campsites to ensure Municipality rules and regulations specified in the permit are adhered to, and supervising the restoration of the campsite for the next season.

World Leagues Forum kicks off tomorrow: UAE Pro League

ABU DHABI, The annual meeting of the World Leagues Forum (WLF), which the UAE Pro League is hosting for the first time in the region, is set to kick off on Tuesday, 18th October, at the Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City Hotel in Dubai.

The two-day forum will be attended by an elite group of decision-makers at the most prominent organisations and football leagues around the world.

The WLF will see meetings and workshops to discuss issues related to reshaping the future of football, the governance, and rules of the game, the integrity, and coordination of international schedules, the regulation of transfers, and the regulation of agents and intermediaries.

The first day of the forum is scheduled to witness two expanded workshops, with the participation of many international organisations and football leagues, from 14:00 to 15:30, and from 16 to 17:30, while the expanded annual meeting of the forum will be held from 9:00 to 12:00 on Wednesday, 19th October.

The participating delegations began arriving today, including representatives from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), the European Club Association, the International Federation of Professional Footballers (FIFPro), the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and the International Labor Organisation (ILO).

The meeting will also be held in the presence of the different football leagues’ representatives from England, Australia, Belgium, Costa Rica, Denmark, Egypt, Ecuador, France, Germany, India, Israel, Qatar, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Madagascar, Mexico, Nigeria, Panama, Poland, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Scotland, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Turkey, America, Uzbekistan, and Zimbabwe.
