UAE leaders congratulate Ugandan President on Independence Day

ABU DHABI, President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has sent a cable of congratulations to Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda, on the occasion of his country’s Independence Day anniversary.

 

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, sent a similar cable to President Museveni.

Project to revamp Dubai’s public beaches to complete in December: Dubai Municipality

DUBAI, Dubai Municipality announced today that the project to revamp Dubai’s public beaches would complete in December. The project aims to develop and beautify Dubai’s beaches, which are among the emirate’s most significant tourist attractions. The project is part of the Municipality’s efforts to preserve the aesthetic and elegant appearance of Dubai’s facilities.

 

Dawoud Al Hajri, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said that the Municipality seeks to take care of all its facilities in the emirate, especially the beaches, as they are important tourist attractions.

 

The beach rehabilitation project includes Al Mamzar Corniche, Jumeirah 1 and Jumeirah 3 beaches in addition to the expansion work and increasing the area of the Umm Suqeim I beach. The project’s scope includes covering the beaches with beach sand and carrying out breakwater and other works to protect public beaches from strong waves.

SCTDA gears up for big announcement at GITEX 2022

SHARJAH, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has confirmed its participation at the 42nd GITEX Technology Week, to be held from 10th to 14th October 2022 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, as part of the Sharjah Government Pavilion.

During the 5-day event, the authority will showcase new projects and emerging prospects in Artificial Intelligence and Metaverse that are shaping the future of tourism and commercial sectors in the emirate.

During the event, which brings together experts and specialists from 144 countries, SCDTA will highlight the innovative use of technologies and their impact on the hospitality, tourism and commerce, exchange expertise and future visions to bolster Sharjah’s status on the global map.

Commenting on the participation, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, said that the emirate is keen on building a comprehensive tourism ecosystem utilising advanced technologies to develop the sector and ensure its sustainability.

He also emphasised that investments in modern technologies to drive innovation in tourism will be key to boosting the sector’s future contributions to overall national economic growth.

“Implementation of modern technologies have become indispensable to all economic sectors. In tourism, technology is no longer implemented solely for flight and hotel bookings; the sector is now employing the latest in AI and other futuristic technologies to design more experiential, interactive and engaging experiences for travellers. In Sharjah, for instance, we employ VR for trip planning and to market our destinations,” he further noted.

CodersHQ to nominate qualified coders for technical jobs during GITIX Global

DUBAI, CodersHQ, one of the “National Programmes for Coders” initiatives, is paving the way for distinguished coders to be nominated for a technical job opportunity related to coding in the private sector in the UAE, with companies selecting the best qualified coders to join their company.

The initiative is organised within (HQ) assessment initiative that will take place from 10-14 October at the Coders HQ in GITIX Global 2022, aiming to build a connected network between coders and local sectors, provide them the opportunity to gain experiences and practical knowledge, and increase the number of coders in the UAE.

Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, reiterated the UAE government futuristic vision in developing the best digital economy in the world, will be achieved through building capabilities and discovering the most qualified coders, adding that GITEX global represents a distinguished platform to launch promising initiatives, encouraging the adoption of innovation, new technologies, and future solutions, which will encourage coders to actively participate in vital sectors and enhance their competitiveness.

Al Olama further noted that the UAE has long realised the importance of these initiatives to connect coders with the best companies in vital sectors, both locally and globally; aiming to promote their abilities in coming up with the next trend through designing the digital future.

“We are seeking to develop the concept of GITEX global this year from showcasing the latest updates in the technology field activating talents of coders by implementing their academic and practical experiences and ensuring the suitability of technology development in the UAE,” he said.

DEWA invites international developers to send Expressions of Interest to implement the 6th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has invited international developers to send their Expressions of Interest (EOI) to implement the 6th phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The deadline to receive the EOI is 12:00 pm on Monday, 10 October 2022.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said that the 900 MW 6th phase of the Solar Park will be implemented using photovoltaic solar panels. It will become operational in stages starting from Q3 of 2025.

“We work in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to achieve the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the total power production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050. We continue to expand the projects of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which has a current production capacity of 1,727 MW using photovoltaic solar panels. DEWA is implementing other projects at the Solar Park with a total capacity of 1,133 MW using photovoltaic solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power technologies. With the completion of the 900 MW 6th phase, the Solar Park’s production capacity will reach 3,760 MW. This will increase to 5,000 MW by 2030,” said Al Tayer.

Al Tayer explained that DEWA has attracted about AED 40 billion of investments through the IPP model and has achieved world records for the lowest prices for solar energy (Levelised Cost of Energy) five consecutive times, making Dubai a benchmark for solar energy prices worldwide.

The production capacity of clean energy has reached about 12.1% of Dubai’s total energy mix and is expected to reach 14% by the end of this year. The Solar Park, implemented by DEWA using the IPP model, is the largest single-site solar park in the world, with total investments of AED 50 billion. When completed, the Solar Park will reduce more than 6.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.

E-learning initiative by Dubai Culture, LinkedIn continues to support UAE creatives

DUBAI, Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) launched the third season of its e-learning initiative in partnership with LinkedIn, the largest professional network in the world, to provide professional development opportunities for members of the creative community in the UAE through the LinkedIn educational platform. The Authority calls on all interested creative talent and entrepreneurs to register and benefit from the accompanying courses and workshops, helping them hone their skills and develop their businesses.

Starting this month, users will be able to register in courses related to their fields and interests through over 16,000 business, technology and creative skills courses offered by the initiative for free via the LinkedIn education platform.

Shaima Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director of the Marketing & Corporate Communication Department at Dubai Culture, said: “The partnership between the Authority and LinkedIn in its third-year falls within the framework of the Authority’s efforts to provide pioneering digital platforms and programmes to support creatives in the UAE. Over the past two years, it has supported members of the creative community in facing the challenges posed by COVID-19, enabling them to virtually access a large number of specialised educational courses and materials from the comfort of their homes. This year, we aspire to continue to support those wishing to obtain knowledge and develop skills wherever they are across the country by investing in accessible and innovative programmes and initiatives. This forms part of our mission to support an ecosystem that encourages the growth of emerging talent and help them to flourish, in order to strengthen the cultural and creative industries in the emirate and cement its position as a global centre for culture, an incubator for creativity, and a thriving hub for talent as well as the global capital of the creative economy.”

This year, participants will also be able to join a series of workshops aimed at enhancing their knowledge of creative and professional fields in cooperation with LinkedIn, universities and creative and cultural institutions in Dubai. The workshop topics will revolve around two key themes: creative educational offering and best practices for building a professional personal profile (this includes introducing the training courses offered by LinkedIn and how to access them).

The initiative offers accredited specialised training courses designed by a group of experienced international experts that aim to develop and refine the capabilities of creative professionals in the areas of business administration. The courses include digital business transformation, crisis management, business development, legal and financial matters, and creative skills that include photography, graphic design, electronic games and product design, visual arts, films, and fashion, among other fields of creativity and business management.
