Deputising for King, PM participates in World Economic Forum in Riyadh

Riyadh: Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah, Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh attended the opening of the special session of the World Economic Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The high-profile event, inaugurated under the auspices of Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, seeks to delve into critical global economic issues over a two-day period.

Attended by leaders, officials, and experts from diverse countries, the meeting aims to foster collaborative solutions to pressing human, climatic, and economic challenges, while also bolstering international cooperation and sustainable innovation.

The meeting will host numerous dialogues and purposeful discussion sessions aimed at enhancing international cooperation efforts and stimulating joint endeavors to innovate sustainable solutions.

The sessions of the special meeting revolve around several important topics, including international cooperation, growth, and energy for development, to address various current economic and geopolitical challenges, alongside fost
ering new partnerships.

Monday’s agenda will feature a pivotal session focusing on the Israeli offensive in Gaza and the concerted humanitarian efforts, with participation from the Prime Minister, along with his Egyptian counterpart Mustafa Madbouly and UN Senior Humanitarian and Reconstruction Coordinator for Gaza, Sigrid Kaag.

Additionally, Prime Minister Khasawneh will meet with political and economic leaders participating in the Forum’s activities.

During the inaugural of the special session, President Borge Brende emphasized the critical importance of convening such a meeting during a pivotal period marked by adverse impacts on regional and international cooperation, as well as numerous geopolitical challenges, including the situation in Gaza and the staggering statistic of 111 million people globally displaced.

Addressing the interconnected global challenges, he highlighted the pressing need to address how to provide energy and electricity to approximately 800 million people worldwide.

“Numerous ar
e the intertwined challenges facing the world in terms of security, energy, and development,” remarked Brende.

In a parallel discourse, Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning, Faisal Al-Ibrahim, pointed out that global economies and societies confront unparalleled challenges, emphasizing that these issues transcend boundaries and cannot be addressed individually.

He stressed the urgent necessity of international cooperation, highlighting the imperative for diverse cultures to converge.

Moreover, Al-Ibrahim emphasized the importance of directing modern technology and artificial intelligence to serve humanity and address the challenges it faces.

Bani Mustafa, Tunisian envoy discuss social protection cooperation

Amman: Minister of Social Development, Wafa Bani Mustafa, on Sunday discussed with Tunisian Ambassador to Jordan, Mufida Al Zaribi, ways to enhance joint cooperation prospects in social services fields.

Bani Mustafa reviewed the Kingdom’s efforts in the social protection field, especially action to implement Jordan National Social Protection Strategy with its three axes (Dignity, Empowerment, and Opportunity), which reflects “positively” on improving quality of citizens’ life.

Additionally, Bani Mustafa touched on the ministry’s efforts in a number of fields, primarily services provided to the elderly, orphaned children, and people without family support, as well as productivity enhancement and shelter alternatives for people with disabilities and women empowerment.

Valuing Tunisian role, she said Tunisia was one of the first Arab countries to ratify statute of the Arab Center for Social Policy Studies and Poverty Eradication, based in Amman, which strengthens efforts aimed at eliminating multidimensional
poverty and improving services provided to weak and vulnerable groups.

For her part, the envoy commended the “distinguished” level of Jordanian-Tunisian cooperation relations, expressing her aspiration to strengthen them in the social development field and care for vulnerable groups.

The meeting went over importance of exchanging mutual visits and expertise in the social services areas, which would reflect on quality of services provided to the target groups, according to a ministry statement.

Dubai Foundation for Women and Children launches ‘Positive Parenting’ programme


DUBAI: In a landmark initiative aimed at reinforcing the societal pillars of the nation, the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children (DFWAC) announced the launch of the ‘Positive Parenting’ programme. This initiative forms a central pillar of the visionary Dubai Social Agenda 33, which proclaims ‘Family the Foundation of Our Nation’ as its theme and pledges AED208 billion of government support, as announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, towards its progressive blueprint over the coming decade.

The initiative is a strategic response inspired by the belief that a strong family nucleus is crucial to the emergence of a prosperous and inclusive society. It is designed to promote robust communication, dialogue, and positive interaction within families, with a special focus on the bond between parents and children, thus reinforcing the family’s central role in the growth and prosperity of Dubai’s society.

ng programme advocates a shift from traditional parenting towards positive parenting practices that support the holistic development of children and the overall wellbeing of families. It places a strong emphasis on professional development for those in childcare and educational roles, ensuring a comprehensive approach to nurturing the nation’s future leaders.

Sheikha Al Mansouri, Acting Director-General of DFWAC, highlighting the scientific underpinnings of the programme, said: ‘The programme is part of the efforts to support parents and workers in the family sector in applying modern educational concepts and foundations. It is based on scientific research results in the fields of psychology and neuropsychology and covers several themes, such as positive communication skills, interaction with oneself and children, strategies for dealing with behavioural challenges, equipping parents with skills for positive adaptation to stress, and dealing with the various challenges that families face, especially those rel
ated to social media and peer pressure.’

DFWAC is responsible for supervising the implementation of the Positive Parenting programme, which supports the objectives of the Dubai Social Agenda 33 to consolidate the values and principles of positive, fruitful and influential interaction within families and between parents and children in society through practical initiatives. The first of these is an educational training programme entitled ‘Positive Family’ that aims to enable parents and workers in the psychological, social and educational settings to use effective positive educational skills during their interaction with children, to meet their developmental needs. Preparing generations qualified to design and lead future opportunities in a cohesive society that adheres to its values and identity is the ultimate objective.

The programme, which involves a series of 12 expert-led training sessions for parents, caregivers, and professionals in mental health, social work and education, is designed to equip futur
e generations with the necessary skills to create and seize opportunities. DFWAC will issue a training manual for positive families as a guidance document to provide the necessary support.

The programme also aims to train workers in psychological, social, and educational settings to use effective positive educational skills during their interactions with children to meet their needs. Furthermore, it seeks to provide intensive training to professionals in these sectors to help them develop strategies for dealing with the behavioral challenges that families may encounter.

The programme’s themes are divided into two sessions. The morning session on the first day is held under the title ‘Positive Parenting and its Results,’ and discusses two related topics, the first being ‘Introduction to Positive Parenting: Definitions, Concepts and Differences from Traditional Parenting,’ while the second topic covers ‘Positive Parenting and its impact; an overview of psychological and neurological research that supports pos
itive parenting.’

As for the evening session, it discusses communication and positive interaction with oneself and children and the importance of positive communication with children and the techniques which enable it.

On the second day, the programme sessions will resume discussions around the main theme, which is enhancing school success skills and dealing with behavioral challenges. The morning session will discuss strategies and tools to support children in school to succeed, as well as the developmental needs of children in childhood and adolescence through understanding the developmental needs at different stages and how to meet them.

As for the evening session, it will examine strategies, techniques, and methods to deal with various behavioral challenges.

On its third day, the programme is set to deliver a comprehensive exploration of positive care strategies tailored for talented and exceptional children. With a specific focus on family adaptation to challenges, the morning session will offer insi
ghts on the best practices and essential tools for supporting the unique needs of gifted and talented children. The programme will also meticulously examine positive parental adjustment, offering valuable guidance on managing parental stress and imparting effective techniques for navigating daily challenges.

During the evening session, attention will shift towards the critical task of managing family challenges in the context of the pervasive influence of social media. Participants will engage in discussions centered around the development and implementation of strategies and tools aligned with the principles of positive parenting. The programme will address various aspects of family challenges related to the impact of social media on parenting, ensuring a holistic exploration of this topic.

The last segment of the programme will involve an insightful discussion on dealing with peer pressure. Participants will gain valuable insights into effective approaches for helping children navigate and cope with press
ures emanating from both their peers and society at large. This comprehensive three-day programme aims to equip participants with a well-rounded set of tools and knowledge to foster positive family dynamics and support the development of exceptional children.

New WEF report shows how AI could transform education


RIYADH: A new World Economic Forum report explores how artificial intelligence could revolutionize education systems and improve the experiences of educators and students alike. The new research outlines AI’s wide-ranging potential – from personalizing learning experiences, to streamlining administrative tasks, integrating AI into educational curricula and more – and finds that a responsible application of emerging technologies could herald a new era in education worldwide.

The report was released during theWorld Economic Forum Special Meeting on Global Collaboration, Growth and Energy for Development which convenes key global stakeholders in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on 28-29 April, to enable comprehensive dialogue on global cooperation, sustainable growth and promoting a global energy transition that underpins sustainable development.

The new report, Shaping the Future of Learning: The Role of AI in Education 4.0, indicates how emerging technology can help educational systems meet the increased demands for di

Kuwait Amir receives Iraqi PM on sidelines of World Economic Forum


His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received Sunday Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Soudani and his accompanying delegation on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum hosted by Riyadh.

During the meeting, the bilateral ties between the two countries and the latest regional and global developments were touched on.

5 Killed, 33 Injured by Strong Tornado in China’s Guangzhou


Five people were killed and 33 others injured by a strong tornado that hit Guangzhou, the capital city of south China’s Guangdong Province, Saturday, local authorities said.

The tornado hit Zhongluotan Town in the city’s Baiyun District.

A preliminary investigation by the provincial meteorological bureau has determined that the tornado had a level-three intensity.

Rescuers from the city’s emergency management have been sent to the site immediately.

Authorities said 141 factory buildings were damaged and no residential houses collapsed.
