ABU DHABI, 9th May, 2023 (WAM) — Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sandooq Al Watan, stressed that the UAE is committed to building a knowledge-based society that will lead to social and economic success, and inspire everyone towards positive change. Sheikh Nahyan said the UAE’s leaders are keen to make innovation and social development the foundations for sustainable progress and prosperity. The vision and decisions of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan have enabled the UAE to become a global model of creating a knowledge-based economy and society. Under his wise leadership, the country has succeeded through public and private institutions, and created a suitable, attractive and positive working environment that brings together citizens and residents, to create a vibrant and balanced society focused on improving the quality of life of all nationals, he added. The announcement of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed allocating 2023 as the ”Year of Sustainability” highlighted the leadership’s keenness to utilise the UAE’s resources to gain global leadership in the field of clean technologies, as well as make green technologies models for long-term sustainability while increasing the quality of life of those living and working in the country, he further added. Sheikh Nahyan made this statement during his opening speech at Sandooq Al Watan’s open day event held at Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi under the theme, “Innovation and Creativity in the Year of Sustainability.” The event was attended by Dr. Carlos Alberto Montana-Hoyos, an award-winning designer and academic, and Professor Eric Xing, President of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), in addition to experts and specialists from the real estate sector, the Special Olympics, New York University Abu Dhabi, Zayed University, the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), and the Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI), along with international speakers from participating global institutions, who spoke at interactive activities, specialist sessions and discussions held today. During his visit to the event, Sheikh Nahyan inaugurated a special exhibition showcasing the achievements of students from the seven emirates in the areas of innovation and creativity. The exhibition features a dedicated corner for inspiration, giving students the opportunity to learn about distinctive innovations in environmental conservation, reducing emissions caused by engines, vertical agriculture, and generating drinking water from the surrounding air and atmosphere.

Ministry: Oil derivatives prices drop globally

The first week of May saw a decline in the price of oil derivatives on the international markets, according to information made public on Tuesday by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. The data showed that the price of 90-octane gasoline went down by 12.8 percent, going from $818.5 per ton in April to $713.7 in the first week of May, while the price of 95-octane gasoline declined from $854.9 per ton to $750.3, a decrease of 12.2 percent. Diesel prices also dropped by 13 percent going from $679.9 per ton to $591.9, while the prices of kerosene went from $734.6 to $661.5 per ton. The prices of liquefied gas for May rose by 1.4 percent, going from $547.5 to $555 per ton. Benchmark Brent crude prices declined in the first week of the current month, from $84.9 to $74.6 per barrel.

Representative in the Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, renewed the Council’s determination to continue completing all paths of national reconciliation.

Al-Lafi, according to the source, praised the group’s efforts to support the option of holding elections, and the national reconciliation project, which is the only way to ensure the achievement of civil peace for Libya and its people, considering that the path to free and fair elections begins with the success of this project, to cross to the stage of stability, and building a democratic state.

(Al-Dabiba) calls for rationing the army’s supplies according to actual needs

The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Minister of Defense Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba, called for the need to reconsider the rationing of the army’s supplies and follow-up according to the actual needs of the Supply Authority.

This came during a meeting held by Al-Dabaiba, today, Monday, in Tripoli, with the Chief of the General Staff, Muhammad Al-Haddad, in the presence of a number of army officers, to discuss a number of files related to the work of the General Staff.

Al-Dabaiba stressed the importance of resolving the obstacles facing the military clothing factory after preparing it for work and manufacturing, and rehabilitating the military headquarters to carry out the tasks of the units stationed there in the required manner.

The President of the Presidential Council, Muhammad Al-Manfi, discussed today, Monday, with the US Special Envoy to Libya, “Richard Norland”, and the US Chargé d’Affaires in Libya, “Leslie Ordman”, political, economic and security issues of common interest to reach the elections during the current year. .

The Council said on its Facebook page that the meeting, which took place via Zoom technology, touched on the need to strengthen the national reconciliation project, establish a joint military force to secure the southern borders, and establish national mechanisms to organize public spending priorities to ensure that all Libyan people benefit from oil revenues.

Minister of Economy honors winners of the foreign olive oil competitions.

The Ministry of Economy and Trade, in the presence of Ministers of Economy and Trade, and Finance, and the general managers of the National Program for Small and Medium Projects and the Export Development Center, honored the winners of the olive oil competitions that were organized in Japan and Norway.

The Minister called for supporting farmers to expand the cultivation of the olive tree, especially local varieties of high productivity and quality, preparing training programs targeting farmers and owners of presses to raise the quality of local production, and forming a work team that would provide all necessary facilities for local companies in foreign participation and find export opportunities for the national industry.

He agreed to establish a training center for oil quality in Gharyan, as well as the need to participate in the International Olive Oil Council.
