COP28 proposes effective solutions to global food and water challenges: Jordanian Minister


Raed Abu Soud, Minister of Water and Irrigation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, affirmed that the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) is proposing effective solutions to the challenges of food and water at the regional and global levels.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) on the sidelines of COP28, he stressed the need to enhance international cooperation and coordinate global efforts to address climate challenges and intensify efforts aimed at finding solutions to shared water issues.

Abu Soud thanked the UAE for organising COP28, adding that the climate conference has addressed all global issues in terms of water and food and catapulted them to the forefront of climate talks.

He underscored the importance of applying smart agriculture and using modern irrigation methods that reduce electricity and water consumption, which is offset by an increase in crop production.

The Minister of Water and Irrigation of Jordan called for educating and training current generations to enhance their
capabilities to deal with the climate implications that the world is witnessing.

He noted to Jordan’s ongoing efforts to better manage available water resources and address climate challenges through expanding the participation of the private sector and providing innovative and advanced technological solutions to achieve food and water security.

Minister Abu Soud stressed that Jordan is one of the leading countries in the utilisation of treated wastewater as a sustainable source according to the best specifications and international standards, adding that 200 million cubic metres are being utilised annually in this field.
